Remember- don't spit at the referee! http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-sport/three-aussies-to-referee-at-fifa-event-20090506-av0k.html
That sucks. I hope he hasn't sunk his chances for 2010 - mandatory retirement for FIFA referees is 45, so if he has that means 2014 will be his last shot. He cops a lot of stick in Australia, but in reality he's a damn good referee. Comparisons to Shield will always be unfavourable, but what the general public doesn't realise is that Shield was the best referee we've ever produced by a long margin. Youngest person ever to referee at a World Cup in 2002, and then youngest referee to ever make the cut for the knockout rounds in 2006. He was one of the top couple of referees in the world when he retired, and probably would have eventually had a World Cup final if he'd kept going.
On Shield- for those who wondered what happened: http://sportal.com.au/Football-opinion-display/shield-a-huge-loss-for-a-league-57261
Though his penalty call in GCU-Nux was wrong it wasn't particularly atrocious I thought and if GCU were actually a decent team instead of a bunch of hot-and-cold gumnut Galacticos they'd be able to overpower the Nux at home regardless.
Thanks Strebre: “I have loved every minute of this amazing journey and I will miss the comradery amongst the match officials as well as the buzz and atmosphere of walking out at the start of a match in a packed stadium. “There have been many personal highlights but the three which stand out would have to be receiving my FIFA badge in 2009, refereeing the Hyundai A-League 2010 Grand Final and being voted as the referee of decade by the PFA in 2015.” http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2016/04/20/league-referee-delovski-calling-it-quits
Worth a watch- vid in the link A-League ref Jarred Gillett had a live microphone for the entirety of his final game before leaving for the Championship. • Every decision explained • Every chat with a player heard https://www.foxsports.com.au/footba...3JbGAT3aWJuN4hK-Y-qmfQpEeM2IEmxf6cCrpy-LnV828
