But that same Concacrap is lucrative with US and Mexico TV rights alone worth too much money. And it wouldnt be like we would replace concacaf with some quality teams. Africa and Asia have the same 1-3 teams at a solid level of competition and then a huge drop down in quality. And again, going back to TV rights (remember ad dollar$ pay for all this fun), the premium that the advertisers are going to pay to see Mane or Salah (if they even play) will pale to what US/Mex companies/sponsors will pay to have their brands (and teams) all over TV in these high grossing markets.

This is all some BS grandstanding and overthinking what will eventually happen. UEFA is light years ahead of what we come up with on this side of the pond.

Dude they want to create a whole new tournament and INVITE us to our own dance, by just throwing money around. I understand the power of the dollar, but they have a lot more to gain than us, by giving them the PRIVILEGE of playing our teams, we’ve been around for a long time and you can’t just erase 103 years of history and tradition. I’m actually shocked conmebol’s greedy ass didn’t take the offer.

Invited or not someone will pick up the tv rights, our product sells itself. Since when have we become dependent on their dough? Them and there whole confederation are irrelevant in world futbol, we have nothing to gain doing business with these nobodies.

That’ last sentence is exactly my point. There’s more here than meets the eye. Too much money and they may end up reworking contract terms regarding who gets what and what carries what name but I can’t see these greedsters just saying ‘no’

The CONMEBOL wants to keep it in South America (Which is reasonable and also could be grandstanding as Kromekote says.)
While simultaneously still make as much money as possible out of it.

One way of increasing profits without USA intervention is by making the tournament longer because the more games that are played the more they can charge Regional and World Television Networks and sponsors. So even though they are emphasizing a "North and South Regional" novelty tournament with Colombia and Argentina hosting 2 groups of 6 teams....
...the real reason they are considering changing the Format this way is that they can play more games. And they know that two Groups of 6 is better to be split by two nations because they can hype it up in two different regional markets and sell to two different bases and make travel less of a hassle.. That also helps with selling tickets which is less of a priority than TV but still something they think about.

The CONMEBOL still wants USA and Mexican money though which is why there is a report still saying that their invitations are still out there.
It just seems less likely cause the CONCACAF may just do a tournament with African and Asian teams (and teams that do not make the Euro) and forget about the Copa.
We will see how it all develops.

Maybe , but the way the North Americans are viewing it is that they can keep a bigger piece of the revenue pie by having any tournament in the USA. Even though they will probably not even make half as much money without the South American teams it may still be profitable in some way. Some of the Asian Federations pay big time TV and sponsorship fees.
(Look at all the Qatar Airways advertisements during the Copa Libertadores for example.)

I'm sure they can make a shitload of money, but people won't be as motivated to watch a Game against Egypt, Nigeria, Mali, Korea, Qatar and Ukraine as they would against Argentina, Brazil or Colombia.

This is true which is why I said it probably won't make half as much money as if they were to have the South American teams. Which is why they are emphasizing that their CONMEBOL invitations are still out there as well.

IT also depends on how they rig the groups. Sort of like how they rig the Groups in Copa Oro where teams with certain populations in the USA get to play in those regions.

A match between Egypt and Guetemala can sell a lot of tickets in New Jersey with many supporters from both teams in the stands (and people who are Salah fan boys.)

A Match between Honduras and Nigeria in Houston or Miami would get a very huge crowd at either stadium.

Korea or Qatar in California, Ukraine in Chicago or New York. Iran in Los Angeles, Japan in Seattle or San Francisco, China in California or New York the list goes on and on.

And the teams that don't generate much interest they will have play USA or Mexico so the stadiums still sellout or get near sellouts.

It’s not Concacaf that what’s the tournament with the Africans and Asians it’s the USSF. Concacaf wants a combined Copa with 20 teams roated hosts South American and then North America.

    Good correction.
The USA is trying to do an invitational tournament. CONCACAF still wants the rotated hosts.

It will be interesting to see if someone budges because this could all just be a huge negotiation power struggle.

As of right now the USSF offer is dead. It’s Conmebol and Concacaf trying to work it out.

The US fed head honcho yesterday said the offer was still on the table.
Did it die in 24 hours? Maybe that means there is progress with the 20 team thing if true.

Maybe. But when someone says that an invitation is still out I take them at their word. Especially when money can be made.
