Not at all. We did not come out with a system over personnel. We used two different coaches and winged it. We put whomever we thought were the best 11 on the field and said . go beat them. This is a very, very different approach.
It took me a while to figure out why Omar is on the roster. GGG needed somebody to make the Bradley call up look less "extraordinary". Calling up Bradley is inexplicable. I know people complain about Ream but let's face it, there's a problem with finding a capable left back so having Ream there as back up isn't a bad idea because he can play cb as well in case we go 3cb's or somebody gets hurt. i.o.w., there's a rationale for Ream. There's just no rationale for a Bradley or Omar call up and I assume the Omar call up dissipates the laser focus on Bradley. Fine, you explain it then......
The huge irony of this post is that you responded to a post about FJ alone with a diatribe about two players who weren’t mentioned!
I lost a bunch of interest the minute GB was anointed, and let's be honest it was his job months before it was announced. And his system doesn't fit the best talent in the US pool so there's that.
You wanna talk roles, if Berhalter needs to move someone to play right back and still push into the middle, McKennie actually plays right back from time to time in the Bundesliga and he gets moved around to a ton of different positions so would likely have the least problem slotting into that role. Adams out of the center is simply an awful decision no matter how you look at it. I am still not convinced Berhalter won't realize this in camp. Fingers crossed anyway.
Completely untrue. We switched to a build out of the back possession style combined with ineffective pressing that creates huge gaps between our lines under both coaches and the results unfolded. We are the stereotypical team that opponents should press against. We are truly susceptible to it.
We’re basically lining up with a three-man back line with no wingbacks, no “8” and a non-destroyer at the “6”. Considering how limited the wingers/forwards are, our opponents aren’t just going to cede possession to our extremely adventurous lineup. Unless Weston and Adams turn in the greatest space management/coverage performance of all-time, we’re going to get hammered. That is not how you build a winning culture.
Honestly I'd love see Morris get to an international level of play. The guy is easy to root for but to use 2 games against lower MLS teams and use that as evidence he's over some of the Euro forwards with actual numbers in far, far better leagues is a head scratcher to me. I would love to hear Berhalter speak to this roster and the team's goal(s) based on that and why certain guys are left out or thrown a bone to play u20/u23. Because I laughed out loud when I read his roster and nothing I've read or heard since makes it cool with me.
And it is disappointing. I advocated for Jesse Marsch, out of the American/MLS or former MLS guys. I said at the time that if we were going to be married to a style of play, HIS style of play would be better over the course of the 2022 cycle than would Vermes' or GGG's. But I was told that GGG was not a limited coach or tactically inflexible, so I shouldn't worry. Well, I guess that is all out the window now.
Don't be so discouraged folks. Soccer is a team game. That we don't have great players doesn't mean we cannot give it a solid try and challenge strong teams. Wouldn't be the first time. Sometimes all you need is just one guy who sees what others don't.
Not sure even though I never, ever would have wanted him back there but then again....Tedesco. The USMNT has exactly zero guys who'd look good at RB against Man City. Zero.
I don't think we did one thing wrong. I really don't think building out of the back and a not pressing well is what killed us at T&T? We were always going to possess that game. Trying to defend the whole midfield with just Bradley... yeah that was part of it. Having a CB that spotted them a goal, yeah... did that too. We had two different managers and lost a myriad of ways. It's hard to find any tactical consistency that led to the fall. We were consistently horrible at counter attacking but it wasn't a tactical choice. We lost the players who were so great at it. We simply didn't have Dempsey and Donovan to save our bacon. Possession is not magical. Not only the "best teams" can do it and win. We definitely didn't lose because we tried to possess. But I think you'll need to see that to believe it.
Promising "possession oriented proactive play" for a new coach is like promising "change and a solid economy" for a newly elected politician. They always happen. They mean nothing.
I see what you did here Excellency! You are truly playing chess while we’re jumping checkers. He’s on the squad so that when he’s sat for WT, everyone is happy.....
Yes, but McKennie has performed serviceably to well in the middle of the field for Schalke but poorly to serviceably at rb. Even less a recipe for success for USMNT than Adams at rb.
"If I'm thinking about Weston who as a No. 10 but then defends as a No. 8, Christian as a No. 10 who also moves wide, or Tyler is a right back who can come inside and can also overlap or inner-lap; those are the things that are exciting to me," said the U.S. manager. "It gives a lot of flexibility in the team." http://www.espn.com/soccer/club/uni...ms-can-offer-united-states-mens-national-team "Berhalter on Pulisic: "in this camp we're going to look at him as the No. 10, slanted to the left -- we played with two No. 10s last camp, we're going to do that again."" https://twitter.com/zlebmada?ref_sr...arch-friendlies-ecuador-chile.2095210/page-15
One thing I like quite a bit about this roster: the N&A pitchforks and torches are raised again! Away, Saracan't Era apathy! I will tear Omar's beating heart out of his chest with my bare twitter feed!

Obviously he should start Trapp (and Adams in a free 8) and start nudging Adams into the more defensive midfield role opportunistically.
