Hey, seems impossible, if you think that she was U-20 WWC 2018's Bronze Ball, but, as the announcer just mentioned, this is the first cap for Moeka Minami!
25 min into game both teams set in 4-3-3 formation so far it's an even macth, perhaps with Brazil having more chances but they do not force the tempo too much (having to play US in 2 days has something to do it I guess) which suits Japan unexperienced defense (Miyagawa-Minami-Oga-Ariyoshi)
Japan is making some great passes. Unfortunately the people receiving a lot of those passes are wearing yellow.
Maybe Matsubara's physical resiliency could be useful today also (although actually Utsugi should do, at least in the holding midfielder position).
Minami plays anticipation on opponents with the experience of a multiple-caps veteran, not a first-cap debutant. Meanwhile, suddenly we hear noise from the feed?
Brazil is allowing too big a gap between the back of their midfield and the front of their defense when they (Brazil) are on the attack. That will end up costing them if it keeps up. Someone found the switch for field sounds. They must have just looked under the pile of candy wrappers and there it was.
Formiga may be nearly 41 but she still can't keep the ball down on goal. I remember several shots just like that in the 99 WWC. Japan does make Brazil pay for lazy midfield defending and scores a real good goal.
What I also meant that Brazil only have 3 players aged under 25 in the squad. The average age on the team is 27.91 years old, so where are the kids (if I can put it that way)? For the record, Nadeshiko Japan have 13 players aged under 25.
And while I say that, we score! Nakajima plays the decoy, taking three Brazilian DFs on her, then frees Momiki in the box and... wonderful lob-goal!!! Go, Yuka Nicole!
Yes, I know. Brazil has never had a youth movement even when the players were young. They play old and run out of gas in the second half or even late in the first and they play lazy. That is why they are not getting their mids back to play defense and why their defense is so slow to get up to the half line when they are attacking.
HT: Japan 1-0 Brazil. While they walk off the pitch, Utsugi compliments Momiki for the goal, that they start talking strategy quite for long: maybe about what didn't work on our Left-Side in this First Half? It seems to me that we didn't use that side much... Anyway, let's enjoy the moment: we're currently leading SheBelieves Cup 2019. No matter how long it will last, we're the temporary leaders!
Even thought it's an unexperienced team, it's still poor - especially our left side. Sakaguchi and Ariyoshi look way off the pace. I'm impressed by Ikejiri from the match against USA and today's first half. She's very positive and always looking to turn and she's got good pace and strength. It'd be good if she gets more services - want to see how she is in the box. Even with this B team, we should be beating this Brazil team. I'm surprised England got only 2-1 win against this Brazil...
Thanks for the updates. This is so frustrating. At least I will defineately see the final game. Its on mainstream TV in UK
For Manchester Nadeshiko Japan leads Brazil at the break, 1-0, thanks to this Yuka Momiki chip.#SheBelievesCup 🇺🇸🇧🇷🏴🇯🇵 pic.twitter.com/HRiP8jKtUg— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) March 2, 2019
Doesn't the feed from US soccer work for you? I thought I read that US soccer did not geo-block any of their feeds.
