He's better than he was at NYRB. And the fact that he's on Reading after a falling out at Nantes, doesn't invalidate his performances at Vitesse or NYRB.
In soccer, you're only as good as you are now. In six months no one will remember how he did with Vitesse. And almost no one in Europe cares about MLS, sad to say. He has to be ace with Reading to get "a chance of a shot" with Chelski.
He didnt "fail" at Nantes. He showed he could play at that level and then a new coach benched him after a couple of mistakes in one game. People seem to want to focus on his last game at Nantes and the mistake against Ireland and ignore the rest of his play. I dont care if he plays at chelsea. I just want him to keep improving for the next 3 to 4 years. If he does, we've got ourselves a very good center back. His ceiling is still much higher than any american center back we've had (very similar to Brooks). I know these are highlights, but a lot of really good stuff against tough competition.
He's not going to get a shot with Chelsea. But him being at Reading doesn't mean he's League One level, or that he's regressed since leaving NYRB. By your logic, if I put Messi on Reading, he's League One level too. I mean, you're only as good as you are at the moment, right? Doesn't matter where you've been, doesn't matter what you've done, if you have a bad loan, you're only as good as the last-minute loan team you forced yourself onto... Didn't say "fail", so not sure how the hell you could "quote" me on that...
I wasnt challenging your post, but adding to it. I was just trying to highlight that his "falling out" wasnt "failing" as some posters are trying to make it out to be. MM has improved significantly since he dominated in MLS three years ago. His improvement hasn't stalled this season either.
Miazga really cannot hurt himself with Chelsea by playing balls out for Reading. That said, is the path to the Chelsea first team through their perpetual loan program? The cupboard is never bare at these places, but that's largely because they order in just about all the time. A two period ban isn't going to change their thinking. Beyond that, Rudiger is 25 and valued at about $50m. The Danish guy is 22 and valued at about $40m. You've got Luiz and Cahill aging, but if the ban is in place they are certainly still quality enough for cover. The 18 year old Welsh kid, Ampadu, right?, is quite well regarded. For perspective: Hector came up through the Reading ranks, did a great job for much better than this year Reading sides in his couple of years with the senior side, earned a very similar to Miazga purchase by Chelsea and is now anchoring the defense of the club sitting second in the championship. He's a Jamaican NT player, but UK citizen. Kalas right now is on something like his sixth loan, but is starting and playing quite well for Bristol City, who are currently sixth in the Championship. He's a Czech NT player. It goes on. Does Miazga have a change with Chelsea? Of course, but no more so than any CB under contract with them, and, before and after the ban, not more than any one not under contract with them.
I'm not saying I agree, I'm only telling you how it is. He has to look fantastic at the level he's now to have a chance to move upward, whether it's some Cup games with Chelski or back on a loan to some decent Eredivisie/Jupiler/Superligaen side.
He will have no problem playing at levels that he excelled at 9 months ago. The suggestion is ludicrous.
Going thru hobnob for fan comments in his recent performance...not much details but still some context.. note: they lost the game to Rotherham and fans are pissed. Miazga. 6. Seemed solid enough Miazga and Swift (again) the standout players Every player was probably between a 5 and a 7. Blackett, Miazga, Ejaria towards the top of the list Miazga 7: Solid. Won his battles Moore and Miazga played well
Tied. 1-1. We did not lose, but it did feel like a loss. Fans are pissed. It was a late goal on which we dropped 2 points
My bad, you are right. Geez forum felt like they lost 6 nil or something. How’s Miazga been playing, fans thoughts on him in general?
Reading fans have gotten spoiled in recent years, esp younger fans for whom Reading has always been a Championship side or a Prem side. Hence the anger. Fans like Miazga. I haven't heard a single complaint. Well, one, he missed an open header, but he's been solid defensively. We're actually playing better than a relegation side right now. It's just that for much of the season, we were not.
Remember: if you're a defender, you don't want people talking about you. It's the opposite of being a forward.

But they got it back! 90th minute winner for Mo Barrow. Big win, because Rotherham also won. Reading hosts Wigan in another bottom of the table clash next weekend. Must win fixture.
Another 90th minute winner! From 2-1 down in the 89th minute to 3-2 up at the final whistle. Mo Barrow with the equalizer, Yakou Meite with the winner. That result, combined with losses by Millwall, Rotherham, and Wigan (obviously), jumps Reading all the way to 19th.
League-only Before Miazga: 43 GA in 28 games = 1.54 per game After Miazga: 10 GA in 8 games = 1.25 per game
