Scout report: Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jović

    Wednesday 13 February 2019

He's "the Serbian Falcao" with shades of Gerd Müller; meet Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jović.

    Name: Luka Jović
    Age: 21
Club: Eintracht Frankfurt (on loan from Benfica)
    Position: Striker
    Country: Serbia
    2018/19: 31 games, 20 goals

    Who is he?

Jović is the Eintracht Frankfurt striker tearing up the Bundesliga and the UEFA Europa League this season. A powerful penalty-box predator, the Serbian's range of finishing is matched only by his composure in front of goal.

    What makes him so good?

That natural ability in front of goal catches the eye. Comfortable either up front on his own or with a strike partner, Jović's finishing is unerring. He's also quick in transition, physically strong and rarely injured.

Why is he the centre of attention?

No one has hit the net more in the Bundesliga this season and he is second in the UEFA Europa League scoring charts. He shot to prominence in October when he became the youngest player to score five goals in a Bundesliga game.

    Where has he come from?

The son of a professional footballer (father Milan was a defender, though), Jović came through the Crvena zvezda youth system. At 18, the striker swapped Belgrade for Benfica, signing on loan for Eintracht the following summer.

When did he make his debut?

Jović made his Crvena zvezda debut in May 2014 aged 16 years and 156 days, converting a late equaliser against Vojvodina to surpass Dejan Stanković as the club's youngest goalscorer. His Eintracht breakthrough came last season with a backheeled volley to win a tight German Cup semi-final at Schalke.

    How far could he go?

Eintracht have confirmed they intend to activate Jović's buy-out clause. The ambitious club and tyro striker are an excellent match; expect Jović to showcase his predatory instincts at the top level of European football in the not-too-distant future.

Jović faces stiff competition breaking into the Serbia starting XI but did make the cut for their 2018 FIFA World Cup squad, coming on as a late substitute against Brazil. There's also a chance of seeing him at the 2019 U21 EURO; Jović was Serbia's seven-goal top scorer in qualifying.

    What they say …

"I've never seen a 20-year-old with this quality. He's got something of [Tony] Yeboah and Cha [Bum-kun], and the physique of Gerd Müller. He's agile, lightning in transition and can score with his right foot, left foot and head."
    Karl-Heinz Körbel, Eintracht record appearance-maker

"He has football in his genes. He's a street footballer and has a nose for goal. He scores with his head, his right or his left foot. He has technique and a powerful shot with both feet. He just has everything a striker needs."
    Kevin-Prince Boateng, former Eintracht midfielder

    What he says …

"Football has meant everything to me ever since I was a child. I would spend the whole day on the pitch and, obviously, it paid off. When I think about the fact that I might retire in ten years, I get scared. Football means everything to me. It hurts to think that one day I will have to stop playing."

"Every young player looks up to [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo. I love [Zlatan] Ibrahimović, but my idol is [Radamel] Falcao."

"This is the first time I've played in the group stage of the Europa League. It is really a phenomenal feeling to be part of this. There are more games, so we do get tired, but we don't complain and we won't complain if we were in Europe next season either."

Ancelotti just admitted the last straw which led to him getting fired was when he pulled Bale out for selfishness against Valencia (not passing to Benzema to finish).

This led to Florentino being done with him.

I point out how Bale has been a protected endangered species at this club and some of you act like it's fairytale. Bullshit.

    These are facts.

I'm sick of being married to the 4-3-3 anyways, there's a lack of right wingers. Would like to see 4-1-4-1/4-2-3-1/4-4-2 or something else.

Winning zero trophies with the best squad in modern club history got him sacked.

Uhh that was Ancelotti's point with Bale not passing... makes it harder to win. Especially when he isn't motivated. No?

Zidane benched your boy as well. Your boy throws a hissy fit and Zidane like "******** this, I'm out".

Anyways Ancelotti won us trophies and won a more signficant one for than your other boy Mourinho.

Carlo is probably winning the CL 3 peat if he's got the club's blessing to bench Bale.

    Flo's position: Bale>>>everything.

I'm not disputing that, but facts are that he was sacked for winning nothing like many others before him. Shit, some coaches won and were still sacked, him being entitled enough to think that he got sacked because of Bale instead of his record is pretty much classic Carlo for now. I don't think he ever got sacked once and said, the team wasn't good enough. It was always something else.

With rumours swirling that Napoli are lining up his replacement, his answer is Bale, Real Madrid.

Lol. Barca won the treble in his second season. Zero accountability from Carlo regarding his choice to start Iker and Iker's mistakes against Juve as well. What about him benching Navas(best GK in the WC and Iker was the worst in WC) for Iker and claiming both me and Iker will be at the club next season? Flo let Iker go which wasn't an easy decision. I am glad he got sacked and we actually won three in a row rather than "hypothetically". And actually a league too which Carlo threw away in the final months in both seasons.

At worst, keep all the money for when MBappe is available.

    Show Spoiler
I'm so incredibly bitter, and jealous that PSG got him. I really hope he won't renew, and goes the rabiot way.

I wouldn’t let your bitterness and jealousy get in the way of the reality of his situation. He’s getting paid a shed load, scoring goals and his escape key belongs the Qatari rulers. We don’t stand a chance of signing him in the next 2-3 years.
Hazard is attainable and has rejected multiple massive new contracts from Chelsea. They’ll sell him this summer and invest that money into reinforcements before the forthcoming transfer window bans. Simples.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Hazard cooling interest rumors was a story planted by Real in an attempt to lower the price

    I'm all to get Hazard.

But I also don't think MBappe will stay forever in french league. He will want a better challenge at some point.

Imagine we get him for just 70ME.

    Even @4x4s wouldn't complain I think.

He will have 1 year left on his contract in the summer. I feel 60-70-80 million is a fair price.

Still 50/50 for me in regards to Hazard. Would be a great signing but he does not solve our goal scoring problem. Back when Ancelotti was our manager, we had 5 players getting 10+ goals in the season and a number of others making significant contributions.

Now, it's just Benzema and we're all pleasantly surprised but it's so rear. Can't depend on him for next season. Still need that striker in addition to a player like Hazard.

How did it turn out for Rabiot and Veratti when they rebelled against their PSG overlords? Mbappe is a pipe dream now! Sad to say it...

Not that I think we sign Mbappe this summer, but Veratti and Rabiot are no where the stature of Mbappe. After the WC, he doesnt need to worry about his place in the France NT. If PSG would threaten to bench him, hes in the position to call their bluff. No way would they want to engage in a battle with a French superstar.

An interview of Neymar is planned to release on march 3 in which he talks good about Madrid, and hints he knows he's liked.

    "Now"

Can be different in 6 months, 1 year, or 2. That's what I meant.

French league is crap whatever PSG do.

Key is PSG not winning CL in next few years. Else Neymar/Mbappe could win BDR and they will stay. PSG dominance in Ligue 1 is not much different from Juve in Serie A. Overall, most of top 5 European leagues have become very predictable.
