Opinion from someone who watched the Orlando match yesterday, and then a reply from Doyle, one I agree with at least partially. I don't know the facts of what happened, but he wore out his welcome at RSL. He needs to not do the same in Orlando, whether it was Petke's fault or his own. I think Danny Acosta's the most talented LB in the pool, but he dumped kerosene on his career & lit a match this time last year. Needs to prove he can be a good teammate.Mueller's fun but not a center forward at all. Patino or Michel could challenge Dom.https://t.co/E5oPn3USoP— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) February 17, 2019
For me, there is simply no question about this. Whatever happened in Utah, I hope that a lesson was learned. The guy is simply too good to waste away. Time for Acosta to go to work.
A couple tidbits in this. Carlos Grueso has left FCD camp, meaning Brandon Servania is likely to get a lot minutes in the next couple of preseason games. Grueso left to work on getting his green card. FCD will then be down to 10 internationals for 9 pots. So that's probably good news for Jesus Ferreira, as Twumasi is likely the player to get loaned down to NTSC. Next game is against RSL on Wednesday. That should be a really youngster-heavy game. Any chance we see Akinola tomorrow? If Jozy is fit I highly doubt it since Boyd should be a step ahead of him. I haven’t paid any attention to Houston, but should we expect to see any of their youth? Either way I want to see MLS teams advance. At least the CCL can tide us over to the start of the season.
McCue is their only thread-eligible player, as far as I'm aware, and he's been relegated to reserve minutes from what I saw. I doubt he plays more than a Cup game or two this season.
Alright, here's my attempt at a head count right now. Does anybody see anything off here? Okonkwo ('98) with Atlanta and Bwana ('97) with Seattle. It would be nearly impossible to make a full list, and not forget someone.
I don't think either of these guys have citizenship though. At least not yet. A numbers of players on the list haven't actually signed yet: Amir Bashti, DeJuan Jones, Ryan Sierakowski, Sergio Rivas, Emil Cuello, Andrew Samuels. Marcello Borges has already been cut loose by the Rapids. Not sure about any of the others. FC Cincinnati also has Tommy McCabe '98, though he's been loaned out already.
Seattle listed Bwana as having it when he signed. Is it a list of all players or players who are eligible now? Ferreira isn’t eligible yet either.
It's not the first time Petke has feuded with a player, and it won't be the last. Acosta is likely not blameless, but some of his reputation as a headcase, IMO, is undeserved. I don't see any reason why he can't/won't succeed with a new coach.
Yeah, I saw that, but they also listed his year of birth incorrectly (I think the release has since been corrected). This Sounders at Heart article from 2018 suggests he's pursuing US citizenship. https://www.sounderatheart.com/2018/3/22/17150766/kenya-national-team-handwalla-bwana Given the known timeline of his life, I'm very skeptical he is a US citizen. He probably has some sort of permanent status that makes him a domestic player in MLS, either as a green card holder or asylum.
Why do you think it is undeserved? Seems like Petke and RSL (and Sarachan before him) tried to get him to comply in some way. He didn't. They gave up and sent him to Orlando. It is possible that Orlando will have a culture more forgiving of whatever it is he does. But it is also possible that he continues whatever behavior and never really becomes a responsible professional player. If it wasn't Orlando, you would think they did their due diligience and Acosta and O'Connor are ready to get his career back on track. But it is Orlando. It at least sounds like he is off to a good start.
My comment was confusing but I meant it's undeserved to some extent. My reasoning is that Petke is also a bit of a head case, and it's sometimes tough to tell where blame is properly apportioned. He definitely has a history of sitting guys who clash with him personally, rather than simply sitting underperforming players. We never got Acosta's side of anything. All we got is RSL's whisper campaign that he has a bad attitude, and IMO people don't treat that with enough skepticism.

If I am reading between the lines correctly... Leyva has a chance at a first team contract if he is able to maintain this form. He is probably going to get some decent minutes against Nacional of Uruguay Wednesday night. Sounders can't run their starters too long as they are trying to keep them on a schedule for weekend games. But this being a friendly with paying attendance they need to run them for a little bit.
Just shocking performance from TFC. We did get some youngsters into the game, though. Griffin Dorsey 77 minutes Ayo Akinola 33 minutes Jacob Saffelburg (Canadian '99): 33 minutes The state of TFC's roster .....................................Eeeek.
