We really need to concentrate all our assets on keeping Quintero past june. I know its going to be hard especially as he keeps scoring amazing goals week in week out, but this team is ready to win the Libertadores if Quintero stays

Give him more money, build him a statue, do whatever, but the kid needs to stay at River for the Libertadores campaign. Its a shame to waste his talents just fighting to get into the next libertadores. River really laid an egg in the superliga

It is a Symbiotic relationship. He needs River as much as River needs him right now. I don't think there's too many other clubs out there he could have succeeded at with his old school #10 style and Gallardo seems to have taken him under his wing.

    Hi all!

Apologies if this is not the right place to ask but i was unable to start a new thread...

What are the best River Plate websites for things like news, match reports etc? Don't worry about the language.

Any ideas and personal recommendations welcome!

    Thanks

right now is such a relative term in this game we love. He is killing it and loving life now, but In a few months money will be put on the table and quintero will be tempted. He was tempted by China, but in the end River, Gallardo, and sporting ambition won out. But what happens if the big money comes from a club in italy or spain? He would surely want to go... I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see him staying past june, and it will be a very sad day for me and all river fans. Its been so long since I enjoyed a player so much

Well , when it comes to Quinterito I only look at it in the "right now now" meaning this season until the Summer and the Copa America is over.
After that the context might change quite a bit and as with most things in life the financial situation will probably be a priority (for both Club and Player).

Hopefully he can stay as long as possible but we shall see how things evolve.

I must put this goal here guys! My favourite Hungarian team played with their biggest rival Saturday, it was the kid's first match in the first division in his life, he got 10 minutes and he scored in the 93. minute... Awesome!

Rojas has been a great buy so far, especially considering for how cheap he arrived. Precise, strong, fast... very promising prospect.

Suarez has been excellent as well, but his quality was more predictable given his extensive career.

It was a quite easy win, but we made it hard in the end. Good to see Quintero's form ,he scored every game after he got the number 10, he is a real crack, I hope he will stay here as long as possible. Worrisome is the 3 injuries, hope they are not serious. Sicaro will be a good sign, he does his job at silence and well. He is confident, strong and fast. Pratto was the best player last night IMO. It's a big advantage to have such a versatile player in the squad, like Camilo. I'm a bit worried about the injured players, the most important thing is get a place who gave us Libertadores qualifications, but it will be so hard without our standard players.

Its worrying the way we just shut off and allowed them a cheap goal then a real chance at tying it. I think because we have gotten into the Libertadores the last few seasons by winning the current edition of the Libertadores or Copa Argentina, the players don't seem to think its important to finish in the Top 5. If you watched the match as a neutral, you'd think the Tucuman side were the only ones playing for anything. River won the game only thank to better individual talent, effort and sacrifice was 100% for the tucumanos who will probably go down

I agree with everything else that was said though. Quintero is a true crack. He's probably too good for this level, but then you see him limp out of almost every game with muscle fatigue, and it makes you think...

Mayada is a player I love. Instrumental in the second goal and was constantly an outlet. He's also very good defensively. I'd have Camilo over Montiel any day of the week. The sub in the Final was just as key as Quintero IMO

Durability and stamina have been the biggest question marks for many of us in the Colombian forum. Also, there's just not too many teams in the modern game who know how to utilize Quintero's strengths as well as the Argentine teams can.

JuanFer and River are a match made in heaven and it is a joy to watch.

Never in a million years would I have thought we'd be disappointed about Casco being out for 3 months.

I guess now he must play Pinola-M.Quarta-Rojas-Montiel or a back line of three until June...

Our injuries are off the charts, though: Casco, Scocco, Nacho Fernandez, Palacios, Enzo Perez, Montiel.... Rojas also with physical inconveniences after Sunday's game. That's like half the team.

Well I guess better now than later on in the season.

Talleres crashed out early, so Palestino (CHI) will be our 3rd rival in Group A of the Libertadores

Honestly, I think Palestino will be a much easier opponent. If theres one thing I've learned over the years its that facing Argentine clubs in international competition is much more demanding than facing foreign teams, even brazilians.

We have been knocked out by a team as lowly as Huracan and both Estudiantes and Godoy Cruz almost knocked us out of the Sudamericana. We saw just how exhausting the Racing and Independiente ties were, even if the final score in both series looked favorable to River.

The Gremio series certainly went down to the last kick of the game, but in terms of difficulty, I'd say Independiente and Racing were just as hard if not harder.

So I'd much rather face a middle of the road Chilean team than a Talleres team who knows us and will still be a tough opponent.

In other news, some bad tidings....

Quintero travelled to Colombia for a family emergency regarding his grandfather and is most likely out of the Newells clash.

This is horrible news in terms of the team, but also just as a fan. Watching Quintero play is probably the most enjoyable thing as a river fan since Gallardo or Ortega was wearing the #10 back in the early 2000s.

Could we see Carrascal make his debut this weekend finally?

No doubt. I had actually posted in the Libertadores thread weeks ago that I wouldn’t be surprised if Inter or River went home early if Talleres made it to the group. I’d much rather face Palestino as well.

The last participant of this group was between them, Sao Paulo, Independiente de Medellin, and Talleres. I’m pretty sure the Chileans were the last candidates for qualification in everyone’s list

Ferreira, like Quintero, sticking to his strict rule of scoring only golazos

Said it on here many times, but I just love Mayada. What a beast. The fact that its not his natural position, doesn't mean he can't play there. Montiel is not a natural RB either yet won the position without any merit. I think Mayada should be our guy for that spot even against top opponents. After all, he stated the 2015 Final and was a key sub in the 2018 final at that position. Montiel's inability to hit a decent cross or be an outlet when attacking makes his defensive solidity irrelev

Another Libertadores campaign is set to begin and I don't think any River fan can be anything but extremely excited and very confident about the team and the prospects of winning the cup again.

I don't think there is another team on the continent that has our combination of talent and experience- something that can't be overlooked.

All that being said, I hope that Gallardo does not completely take his eye off the local championship as he so often does. Our next match is against Atletico Tucuman who won today moving 3 points ahead of us for the last Libertadores spot. If we lose to them Sunday, we will most likely be out of the running for next season's Copa (unless we win this one)

I hope Gallardo realizes that he can play an A squad Wednesday and an A Squad Sunday. There is no need to make huge changes. These guys are getting paid to play and theres no reason why they can't do it twice in a week.

DOn't wanna be too negative, but we've all seen how Gallardo's can practically forfeit the local competition for the copa and while I hope we win the copa every year and don't need to worry about qualifying, at some point our luck and form is gonna run out. That and River needs to be at the top of the domestic competition as our history dictates.

Why the ******** is Nacho Fernandez taking close range direct freekicks when Ferreira is on the field? Talk about wasting good chances.

On a different note, and I was going to ask this before the missed PK, but do you guys think Suarez should be starting over Borre at this point?

I said the same thing! I was raging at my TV when Nacho Fernandez took that FK.

Ferreira is an absolute crack in the making. Seriously can't remember a kid that age showing the kind of shooting and free kick expertise as this pibe.

Other than that, it was a horrible game and I thought the subs were poor. I get why Quintero came out after all the emotional strain of his grandfather's death and the travel to colombia and back then to lima is a lot, but I don't get why Nacho Fernandez stayed on the field. His free kicks weren't the only thing that were bad. Terrible night from Pratto who looked slow and borre was terrible even disregarding the penalty miss.

I also thought Montiel was awful. He had one wide open chance in the box and couldn't hit 3 river players who were being guarded by only 2 allianza players. Defensively, Pinola and Quarta were also to blame on the goal, but Montiel was also asleep... He is a "defensive" option to Mayada, but he really isn't very defensive.

River is a much better team, yet we played like crap. As bad as we played, we still should have won missing a penalty and a few other chances.

If we win our home games and draw our away games, we'll go through, but a team like Allianza should be 6 points from two games, they are just a poor side and River let them off the hook.
