Setien's back 5 doesn't work when teams bunker. There was absolutely no space for Lainez to operate because the wingback Barragan and the mid Canales were crowded Diego's space. Should have switch to 4 forwards, with two wide men and Diego playing beind Lo Celso in the middle. To be honest, I was in favor of Betis but Diego seems lost and redundant in this system. He or his teammates always seem in the way of each other. I see dudes making runs that should be Diego's runs and Diego a lot of times is just floating around while combination play happens around him through his area. Honestly it's weird to watch it.
I got a similar feeling. The wings are so congested and I thought I saw two left footed players on the right wing at the same time (could be wrong) which makes even simple link up play completely ineffective because no one wants to play high and wide on the wing. I don’t watch alaves but they seem like a disciplined ultra defensive team which was always going to be difficult to break in the first place.
