If only Jozy hadn't got that goal against Arsenal called off. Or gotten injured in 19mins of the game against Ghana. I really felt he'd have gotten a goal sometime during the tournament.

He was pretty solid in the 2010 tournament. He did everything but get a goal.

Please help me understand what his post is saying, because I've read it multiple times and it still says:

"Sargent and Weah are not yet penciled in.

The only guys that should be penciled in are Pulisic, Adams, and McKennie. UNTIL some other guys emerges that are playing/starting regularly at a CL club.

Sorry MLS guys, your best MLS team is ranked #178 in world soccer. So yeah, I don't care if your ripping it in MLS, it carries a lot less weight than a guy that's playing regularly at a much higher level of competition."

Since this is a Jozy Altidore thread-- where I would, at the very least, expect a discussion about FORWARDS--then I continue to ask the question. If the parameters for deserving call-ups and PT with the national team are "playing regularly at a much higher level (than MLS)" then you've gotta show me someone, ANYONE, playing regularly at a much higher level.

I still have 5-6-7 great years ahead of me,” said the veteran forward, who has one year (2019) left on his contract. “I haven’t had a muscle injury since 2016 and I feel good about that. It’s been three years now and all I’ve had is a broken foot and the ligament tear in the ankle. But surgery fixed those and I’m back to 100% fit. And I showed last year that I can still score goals when I’m on the field. So for me, there’s no worries at all (about staying healthy) and the club knows my situation. They know how fit I am and what the expectation is with

So if Bobby keeps not scoring in the BuLi and both Weah and Sargent are only given garbage minutes, does it mean Jozy is still our #1 striker?

Weah playing/scoring in Scotland, Sargent playing/scoring a bit in BL, Bobby playing (I think?) in BL.

No, is 4th on the pecking order (I'd have him lower, but trying to be impartial here).

Jozy should be nowhere near this team unless he dominates MLS this year.

Jozy has been a brilliant MLS forward. He has the type of physical tools that age well. Agree that he should be able to put up good numbers for 4 or more years.

Wood has 3 goals and 1 primary assist in 10 games worth of B1 minutes. That's good work on a low scoring team. He is tied for the team lead in goals scored this season. He lead the National Team in goals last season.

Altidore should be proving his worth in Europe. Not because his play in MLS does not count, but because, this is his likely one and final chance to go to a German, French, or Italian top flight club and dominate. He can open doors for future Americans at that club, if he is a success. staying in MLS with Executive Protection from Garber is the easy route.

Frankly I'd prefer to upgrade Jozy but come on. Sargent has 81' played in the BuLi so far this year, with no goals. Weah has played 90' only once, when Forrest was injured. So they're not established yet.

As for Bobby, he has not lacked chances to prove himself. He has yet to score this year in the BuLi, and his minutes are slipping.

hopefully he has real competition and proves that he should be there rather than continuing to get starts by default.

I felt the Altidore/Wood combo worked really well in many games during qualifying. Or close enough.

If he's scoring in MLS, he'll have a spot on the team, that much seems certain, at least for the moment.

However, he hasn't scored for the MNT on a regular basis against quality opposition for many years now. He didn't even score consistently against minnows last cycle. So he's clearly not our #1 striker.

I think our pool is fairly ambiguous, with Bobby Wood, in-form Altidore, in-form Zardes (I don't like Zardes, but he's in the pool still) in-form Ramirez, Weah, and Sargent all fighting for spots.

Any of those guys could start, depending on formation and opponent, and I wouldn't be too surprised.

1.5 g/90? Guess he must be an autostarter. Next best for WB is .7 g/90.

It'd have been grest if he returned to Europe or even Mexico. To really showcase himself. Ive always felt he might do real well in Italy.

I didn't say it was a position of strength.

Depending on how the other 9-10 players do, we should be able to do just fine with a serviceable striker. If Sargent or Weah come good, then we'll be in great shape.

Also, forgot about Novakovic. He seems like he could be very useful too.

Garber re-upped till 2023 as MLS commissioner. Jozy can come back to MLS in 2022 with the running pace of a granny and Altidore with still be handed a fat lucrative contract somewhere.

In fact, Garber re-upping should be Jozy's big insurance policy down the road and he should be on the plane to Europe as soon as possible, proving his new level of play.

The Bundesliga takes most of January off. We're only a few games into '19. Why would you limit your focus to one month and completely ignore the goals that he scored just two months ago?

Because the status of a young player in such clubs changes fast. The return of James Forrest from injury, for example, is about to affect the playing time of Timothy Weah. And Josh Sargent's weak showing against Nürnberg seems to have affected the time given to him.

What happened two months ago matters little in such cases.

Anecdotally, I definitely got more into MLS after Jozy and Bradley etc came back. I watch the league to keep up with the Yanks.
