He was barely homegrown Yes, he is local, but he was barely homegrown, the Timbers even tried to shut us down so he can go into MLS draft. I wonder if he had wished that he should have gone to the MLS draft instead of languishing with this bottom feeder team of ours.
I see your point. NL2 signed a new contract at the end of last year though - so there must be something he likes about the Quakes.
Must be the fact that we sucked so bad that he was given the starting job right away. In retrospect then, it actually was probably a good idea for him to come to us in the first place.
By the way, a nugget from the AO San Jose capo learned at Jack's while watching Lima earn team MVP honors for his first USMNT cap: Lima wondered recently if it wouldn't be possible to get one of the new AO Oakland scarves. She told him that could probably be arranged. Lima's a true Home Grown.
If I were Jesse, I’d take a look at acquiring Emerson Hyndman. He’s only 22 and he has a lot of experience for his age. He would fit Almeyda’s system as a hybrid 8-10. Kid has tight control under pressure and plays with his head up. His price should be reasonable. I was bummed when I found out D.C. United was getting Russell Canouse. He would have been perfect for San Jose and I just knew he would be a great player in MLS. I think Hyndman would be the same. I think he would have something to prove.
Looking through the list of USMT players who are consistently DNP, he's probably the most attractive. I'd think it would be interesting to take a flyer on someone like Aron Johannsson - you'd think he'd come pretty cheap, given his recent history, though I'm not sure we have the depth to carry someone who is only 20% likely to pay off.
Two things would concern me about Aron. First, he seems injury prone and second I question his speed/quickness.
It looks like Marco Fabian is close to signing with Philly, making him a prime candidate for the "Darwin Quintero" woulda-coulda-shoulda signing of the year. Looks like less competition than last year when he beat out Beita, Zimmerman, Nguyen, and Parker. This year I can only think of Rowe, Ike, or maybe one of the domestic keepers if Vega sucks. This year Peter Bosz could be his surprise competition, he's landed in a great spot with Bayer Leverkusen's array of young talent. They looked very good beating Bayern last Saturday. I know Fabian's injury history, work-ethic, etc. makes it a risky signing but that won't stop a bunch of people here complaining that we didn't sign him if he plays well.
Some recent examples of teams using MLS rules to their advantage: 1094020133779955713 is not a valid tweet id and "McCann had a base salary of $560,000 last year, but United is apparently acquiring him for the senior minimum fee of $70,250."
"Assuming his contract was guaranteed in 2019, Atlanta presumably arranged a hefty buyout before waiving him." Interesting. Who on the Quakes would we like to buyout there contract?
Supposedly Joe Corona wants to come to MLS. SJ could be a good fit. Unless we have big plans for a DP 8, Corona would fit nicely replacing Godoy. Solid overall game, high soccer IQ with vision and passing skills...lacks a little bit of speed, but competes very hard...
Not if they played him alongside Corona. -----------Modelo---------Corona--------- Amstel-------Peroni-----Duvel--------Deschutes Lagunitas----Guinness---Foster------Boddington --------------------Heineken------------------------ Not the "craftiest" lineup, but many well known internationals on the squad. Corona is lively and bright, and Modelo finishes smoothly. Amstel, the German, is light, but well-balanced. Peroni, straight from Italy, is refreshing, with a delicate hop to his play. Alongside him is the Belgian, Duvel, known for his smoothness, and can play any position. On the right we have an American from Oregon, Deschutes, a very forward and versatile attacker. Another American, Laugunitas, occupies the left back spot and has been described as a very well-rounded player. Next to him, in the center, is the stout Irishman, Guinness, who partners with the big Aussie, Foster, whose size is very intimidating for many who choose to take him on. Rounding out our outfield players is the Englishmen, Boddington, known affectionately as the "cream of Manchester". And in goal, our player with the most international appearances, is the famous Dutchmen, Heineken. The manager is the Italian, Birra Moretti.
I remember back when we had a real Anchor in the midfield instead of the Italian - he's kind of thin and overrated. Anchor was a local boy, too.
Sadly with our FO, it would be the malt liquor version... St Ides between the pipes... Actually, back in the day the pre set primer was a King Cobra 40...Hell yeah!
I followed Joe Hart at Torino and he was an adequate GK. Anyway, I'm sure he is better than Tarbell.....Wonder where he will go? Transfer Talk: Joe Hart linked with Major League Soccer move
City Legend. Crazy how is career has tanked since Pep ditched him for a GK that is good with their feet. He is still a very good shot stopper.
He needs to play for a team that is just interested in absorbing pressure and playing counter attacking soccer. Most modern coaches prefer possession ball and that requires keepers handling back passes under pressure. That’s why Vega will start over Tarbell in SJ.
That's exactly who Burnely are, so not a good look. Hah, that's not the only reason Vega will be starting over Tarbell!
I attempt to remain as optimistic as possible, but it does chap my hide that we appear to be the least active team on the transfer market. No rumors, nada. Kenny Saief, Alejandro Guido, Niko Hamalainen, Guiseppe Rosi, Nani, Fredy Montero, Mathias Jorgensen, Marco Fabian coming (in some cases back) to MLS. Fire trade for CJ Sapong, Columbus trades for Waylon Francis, Cincinnati trades for Kekuta Manneh. All this just in February. Our last signing was Cade Cowell on January 25th. The last transaction that might influence the starting lineup: January 2nd. My point is, whatever you think of the players listed above, other teams have ambition to tinker with and improve their roster up until (and past) the start of the season. I'm glad we are so fully stocked that we don't need to participate in the market. I'm not even part of the "sign a DP now!" crowd. There are many likely reasons we didn't get a winter DP, but the front office doesn't seem concerned by our lack of skilled depth...
While I agree with you, I'm not sure the Quakes have any players with trade value. Yuell and TT? Who wants backup players from a last place team?
Yep, in order to add players you need roster space AND cap space. It seems like the Quakes have cleared as much roster space as they can for now (I guess the can eat one contract and maybe do a season long loan to Reno?) We don’t know where they stand on cap space.
We seem to do a good job of building TAM - most of the trades I mentioned were for money, not player for player, but I get what you mean. And who knows if we have TAM to trade...
