I know these are all relative but 90k per for Arsenal is conventionally starter money, and I can't imagine the intention was that he would be a First XI fixture.
I guess you see minor aberrations, with a player who conceptually fits into Emery's systems. Whereas I see a pattern, and a trend that's not going in the right direction (yet), with a player who isn't producing at the quality level we need. That's why I drew the comparison of Guen vs Iwobi. One's already a keeper, a vital cog. The other needs another year of "seasoning", and IMO a loan for that.
Yep. Signed him last summer and he is a FA this summer. He just turned 35 so I assume he was intended to be a stopgap solution for a backup RB without having to spend from our 70m transfer budget last summer.
If some major shakeup does not happen over summer then next year Everton and West Ham would give us a hard time. Top six would be far from guaranteed. You got to feel for Emery. Tough situation.
can't find anything online but have a friend that claims he heard an Ornstein interview this morning that was claiming the budget will actually be 100m
Arsecast this morning. Ornstein said the 100m is dependent on what competition they qualify for. Also thinks they will be in on Rabiot.
Despite his attitude, I would be perfectly ok with Rabiot as long as Emery approves. He has managed him before. If he is willing to do it again then I think he is worth it. He is just as good if not better of a passer as Xhaka but with much better defensive capabilities. If he is willing to settle into the DM/DLP role (has been reluctant in the past) he would be an immediate starter and impact player.
Don't forget that Arsenal also includes wages in their budget, so 100m is for the fee plus new wages.
This. Im sorry but the spanish way of recruiting has been failing for years. At least outside of a couple clubs.
Raul worries me a bit. That said, Barca identified and signed a ton of young talent. Problem was that most of them ended up becoming good 1st team players for someone else when they couldn't break into anything but the Barca B squad. Hopefully he believes in building a team from the youth ranks differently than how they did it at Barca. Monchi (assuming we get him) has done really good things with a smaller budget at both Sevilla and Roma. I'm not really concerned about his influences. Emery concerns me a bit assuming he has influence. Read something last night or this morning claiming that he said he wants "proven players that he knows". That doesn't scream youth to me. I don't have issues with him wanting some guys that he knows, especially guys that are already bought into his system. As long as that doesn't mean that we end up with a team full of 30+ yo guys.
He’s trimming the wage budget and getting rid of older players He got Zaniolo (best talent since Totti/Cassano) and cash for Ninja. We are reaching distance of top 4 and most likely end up in 3rd. His only real mistake has been replacing Alisson with Olsen. And Alisson was always going to get sold. All of this while staying in line with FFP. He’s doing pretty good I’d say.
That was Sabatini Monchi selling Nainggolan for Zaniolo and cash is the steal of the decade. He’ll never come here...why would he? He calls the shots at Roma, he will be severely limited at Arsenal. His position doesn’t exist in England.
He was a free, so he was able to demand either a signing bonus or a higher salary. When we talk about signing Raboit on a free transfer, we have to take into account that he will probably demand more than Ramsey is currently making either in salary alone or in salary plus signing bonus. In addition, Kola, who was also signed on a free, reportedly has a salary of 120k per week.
We pay peanuts here. Koscielny, not Kolasinic, could have easily made more somewhere else. Thats what I meant.
I went to post this in the January transfer thread but found it already locked. So it'll go here I guess... Emery said today about Denis Suarez: This made me smile, after the stinker that was his debut cameo on Sunday.
Seeing several links to LB Alex Grimaldo. Former Barca youngster that is supposedly friends with Bellerin. I've read that he has a 50m release clause but is currently valued at 25-30m.
The links I want to see are ones related to a new head scout, or technical director. Since Sven's departure, if we don't try hard to fill that role ASAP, I don't know what to say.
Saw something yesterday from an Arsecast where Ornstein is claiming that he is hearing Monchi has verbally agreed to join us in the summer but he (Ornstein) wasn't running with it yet because it isn't confirmed.
