“Defender”.....? Do teams see him as a center back?

BL is exactly what he needs.

He's kind of in an awkward position right now. If he leaves right now, he'll probably go straight into their youth sides. How much MLS play does Chris need to immediately become a first team member? Can he do it by the summer?

If it's Hannover again, they're tied for bottom of the table. I'm not familiar enough with the story to know whether they figure to be battling to the last minute, or the season is more likely to be a wash. They've got one of the worst defenses, measured by goals allowed, in the league, so maybe new blood would be welcome.

It's only going to be big leagues and clubs who'd realistically offer enough for his as a prospect to prompt his transfer. He's a hg so they'd get to keep all the transfer fee, but I think it still applies.

BL transfer and immediate loan to 2. BL. I gotta think any club would be in play because of his age and performance in the u-17 WC. With his ball-playing ability, he'd actually fit at the prestige clubs. Maybe Bayer Leverkusen. Haven't dipped their foot in the pool since Landon I think, and they're one of the few in the BL in that time frame.

The article is behind a paywall, of course, so I'll just quote one sentence from Maurer's reporting in the article:

Multiple sources said that the player [Durkin] was eager to make the move [loan to Neverkusen] and expressed that desire to United’s front office.

That is the Olsen way with kids. DCU is one of the bigger soccer hotbeds in the country but the only 2 homegrowns I can think of with significant playing time are Hamid and Najar (who was barely homegrown)

Not his best game imo. Had some errors, ie the pass back in the first half, but he also put on a long ball clinic, spraying the ball to the wings. So mixed bag.

He played well...I think he actually does better without a def-midfield partner...more decisive and commanding when he knows the role is all his.

....all the criticism of him after the Ukraine loss was overblown, imo.

he was very good yesterday, there are a few 'well known' us youth soccer twitter accounts that seemed to judge him harshly. of course, they are wrong.

i agree he does better by himself in the middle, and having someone like servania close to him (who has no where near the ability on the ball that durkin has) only limits chris' effectiveness.

Does anyone have an example of a player not named Wil or Michael that plays like Durkin does who plays as a single pivot at a high level? I really like Durkin and agree that's where he belongs on the field, but I struggle with a player comparison.

Why do Americans constantly compare players to other players? I'll never understand that.

...Americans? Everyone does that. The number of times that I've heard a tall, rangy midfielder referred to as "the next Vieira" by some European commentator is astounding.

In continental Europe, it's very uncommon to compare young players to other players, especially "legends" of the game.

Uh, no it's not? I don't know how to say "the new Neymar" in more than two languages to google it but it happens all the time.

Yeah I think he is a less elegant and precise but better positioned Julian Weigl.
