Serious training is underway for 2019 DCU players ... and I ask an even more serious question regarding it Why the hell are none of these yoga mats black or red?— Lonnie H. (@dcufan) January 23, 2019
He is the real deal. Seen him play in person numerous times. He's better than a handful of u19 starters. The left winger for example. Even the no. 10 (when Cerritos isnt playing)
Wish him luck, I ruptured my achilles when I was 30 and the comeback wasn't so bad. I was prolly 90% of myself and my strength with very basic PT 1-2x a week. Was always mystified when a gifted athlete with access to the best training like Lavar Arrington couldn't come back at a similar age. I can't imagine having to rehab it at 45.
It isn’t just Portuguese clubs (Benfica, Sporting CP) chasing D.C. United and #USMNT U-20 midfielder Chris Durkin. I’m told a Bundesliga club has tabled an offer for the 18-year-old. #DCU #MLS— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) January 23, 2019
"Ugh. I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm.... Buuuuuurp! Ugh. Man. I am sorry about that! Better Ousted than in, though, amirite? Anyway, I'm doing fine. It's just a.. did I say Ousted? I meant Ousted."
Did I ever tell you folks that I haven't forgiven that fat piece of shit from attacking Jaime Moreno?
When did Tony Meola attack Jaime Moreno? Oh, wait; we're talking about Zach Thornton. Sorry, wrong fat piece of shit. asitis
And yet Thornton was once svelte enough to be third-team All America in lacrosse while at Loyola College in Maryland.
Yes he was. I actually have nothing against Thornton. I just used the term, "fat piece of shit", to take a gratuitous swipe at Tony Meola. Back in '95-'96, Thornton was a member of the U23 team that eventually qualified for the Olympics. I remember attending a friendly/preparation match at the University of Richmond: bleacher seats on one side and open field on the other 3 sides. I just happened to sit next to Zach's Dad. We talked a little. He seemed like a very nice man and very proud of his son. Experiences like that tend to humanize your opponents. On the other hand, I'm convinced Meola crawled out of a Jersey sewer. asitis
Funny, you talking about humanizing people, by meeting them. I can't remember which game it was last season, the first October fixture I think because we'd flown back from Disney that morning and came straight to the game and had to buy sweat shirts because it was so cold, especially after it being 90 every day in FL. Walking in from our parking lot, we crossed the street and ran into Levien and his son who is a couple years younger than my son, but we talked for the 2 blocks walking in and he's likable, but then you get a couple months down range and here we are with a shit streaming deal, no obvious improvements to the stadium (roof), no overt improvements to the STM program, no Asad, struggling to get Acosta signed and I am just back to where I was with respect to how I view him as an owner. Out of his depth I think. On Meola, I met him when I was in high school. The Kearny travel team was playing at a tournament at East Stroudsburg Univ. We were sitting up on a hill overlooking some of the fields between games and we looking down and I immediately pick out his signature mullet at the time, even though he was wearing shades and plain clothes. I say something to one of my teammates and he agrees its prolly him, so I yell Tony Meola and he ends up mobbed by people looking to get autographs. By the time we got down there, there must have been 20 people hitting him up, but he was gracious and stuck around to sign for everyone. Regrettably I chose my GK gloves for him to sign, so that signature is long gone. But he was cool, even if I was the guy who sold out his anonymity. Meola a little less so than Thorton, but they're both big, broad barrel chested guys. I am built like that too, not nearly as tall, there is no escaping the weight gain.
If you watch Zach warming up the keeper before a match you can see that he can really crush the ball. Maybe it's that weight.
Funny, my last experience with Meola was quite the opposite. I usually have a fondness for my old UVa players. I met him a few times when he was at UVa, nothing memorable, certainly not from his point of view. Several years ago Meola made a promotional appearance at a UVa soccer game. At half time he'd be signing and giving out posters of himself in whatever brand he was promoting (adidas?). Back in the early '90's, during his run of NCAA Championships, Bruce Arena had written a book, Arena Ball, about his experiences at UVA. In it were numerous pictures of his former UVA players. I'd used the book to collect autographs of the players pictured there. I had signatures of Harkes, Agoos, Imler, Peay and several others. I even had Kenny Arena sign a picture of his time as a ball boy. I didn't have Meola's auto, and I thought this promotional experience would be a great time to get it. At halftime they had a table set up with Meola and the posters. Kids and a few adults lined up. I waited until the line had emptied out. I then walked up and asked him to sign his picture in my book. He said, "No, I'm not doing that" and turned away. I just stood there dumbfounded. Also, there's the whole Metro stink thing. So, here's hoping he crawls back into his Jersey sewer or, at least, realizes he's a lousy TV commentator. asitis
Lots of stuff in this Goff report. Acosta and DCU are talking new contract. Leidos likely to remain as jersey sponsor. Maybe a Loudoun coach next week. https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...ks-long-term-contract/?utm_term=.6d9c6dc3660d
I think this was almost a carbon copy of stories last month - with the adverb in the Leidos sponsorship paragraph changed from "doubtful" to "likely".
I don't want to go all Fox News but, seriously, what's the deal with EventsDC sponsoring us and Swansea? That is sketchy as hell.
Its a great look for a company that will lay you off the instant your billable project is in doubt, descendant from SAIC spending millions on sponsorship while many of their employees finish burning up their PTO and start taking unemployment.
