Oddly, my most durable Crew memory is a goal against. McBride's goal in the 2008 Eastern Conference Final is seared into my memory. I suppose it was the meaningfulness of the moment (opposition taking the lead in a knockout game) and that they Crew came back and won. Incidentally, in fact checking myself, I discovered that McBridge scored 96 professional goals in the United States. Which is neat. And that he scored 144 professional goals across his entire career, which is also neat.
Best memories at Crew Stadium! Jeff Cunningham scoring the first goal at Crew Stadium! The Stern turn! Beating Shitcago and McBride at playoff game to get into Championship game!
My worst mem(nightmare) was MLS Championship against Portland,! Goalie screwup and Referee missing out of bounds ball!!!
My favorite memory is probably the EC final in 2008. But other great Crew days were the first game vs DC (Thanks Thor!), the first game at Mapfre (beating Spiderman), clinching the 2004 shield at Chicago (Thanks Edson), scoring with 1 second left on the countdown clock vs SJ, doing the coin toss in 2009 or 10, etc.
I agree. Thinking back on last season, certainly we had some big-time moments, but the little ones sometimes are what really seem special. I keep thinking about how throughout the season, even after Meram left, Markus kept telling people that Meram was his favorite Crew player. Then we made his banner. So. Many. Moments. From last season. The KC trip is towards the tops for me. But again, it is the little moments. Like when my husband pointed over at the Cauldron and said, "Chels look over at there. They are doing the signs." Damn waterworks. That was one emotional away game trip. TAAAilgate was fantastic. A gathering for the ages and so many years overdue. FF was stuck with such paupers for company... Gosh. I have so many moments of Crew memories with DnD. Though I would probably remember more had it not been for the booze. Connor in his adorable warm outfit on Crewsmas! I am ready to see you guys again this March.
This picture is what comes to mind whenever someone asks Favorite Crew Memory. Bunking over Bake is a close 2nd. Both spent many, many months as my background at work.
One of my menories wasn't a game, but was reading about the events surrounding a game. Sirk, the Nefarious Numbers-Runner Known As Z-Man and others were at DC for a road game during the midst of a Crew slump when they were heckled by some DC fans. Apparently, one of the DC fans asked what was wrong with the Crew. Z-Man replied in only a way that Z-Man could, which was via a song and dance routine. "What's wrong with the Crew? Say everything, say everything!" There was another time when a bunch of us were hanging out by the tent after the game. I think it was Brian Dunseth and maybe Duncan Oughton were there too. Anyway, these random kids were being fed some really funny lines to go tell the players. The players would then tell the kids lines to go tell us. There was another time when Tucker had his team jacket on and we were wondering if the "TW" on his jacket meant he got free cable in exchange for "the advertising." In the notebook, he said something about how he wished it got him free Skinemax. I also remember the first game Danny Szetela was with us...after the game, he was in the corner of the area outside the tent, on his phone...just hanging out. Needless to say, he warmed up to the fans a little bit after that.
Eh, not stone-cold sober, but I definitely remember the match. The same could not be said for a good chunk of 2008.
