Frenkie De Jong has agreed to join Barcelona ahead of PSG, per @Catradioesports

No growing footballer with world class potential would prefer PSG.

De Jong to Barca was reported weeks ago, hope it's true, but till something is signed I won't celebrate. That said, I am really hopeful he does come here, love the versatility to play AM, DM, and CB too, in a pinch. Also love that IF he joins us he probably gave up a slightly higher salary from an oil rich club (like PSG or Man City), or other EPL TV revenue rich club, to come here.

I guess De Jong should be a starter and play alongside Arthur. Would they work?

Good signing (if happens). Very expensive salary. Then again, top players' salaries are not the worst place clubs can splurge their money, and of course competition drives up prices.

Regarding the midfielder puzzle, some people might jump to conclusion that this means Rakitic out. It might, but I don't know. I guess we'll see who plays how much, either way I like this transfer.

I take it that we will go into 2019-2020 with Suarez as our #1 striker, and so the big summer move - besides this - should probably be a centerback. De Ligt, ideally.

Btw, I wonder how their first meeting went?

K-P: "Hello! Nice to meet you. I'm Boateng."

    Messi: "I'm Leo...... Haven't we met before? Didn't I..."

K-P: "NO-NO-NO! THAT was my brother!"

    :D

The prospect of a De Jong-Arthur midfield actually materializing gives me the chills. Please make it happen. I do believe that 90m is steep, but in today’s market nothing surprises me anymore. I just quietly hope we can snag De Ligt too in the summer. Won’t wish for anything more. (Except maybe Mbappe, one can dream...).

I don't see this move forcing Rakitic out. I mean, he could leave, but it's not impossible for him to stay. There are a lot of midfielder minutes to be shared, and Rakitic is only 30, not 35, and Valverde - who very well might continue next season - values Rakitic a lot.

The real value of De Jong to us isn't next season, it's a longer project. Who knows what our midfield looks like in 2025, but he is the likeliest player we have to play there (Arthur likely too).

The midfield is lowkey strong now. I don’t care if Arthur and De Jong are inexperienced, but underestimating us in this year’s UCL will be a big mistake unless Valverde chokes. De Jong and Arthur would be the bread and butter for Barca in the near future. Barto did a good job securing him from those powerful Arabs.

We could’ve won the UCL 2 years ago or even last season had we not choked. Some big teams look down upon us due to last year’s choke. Pep’s era type of Barca should return and strong midfield is what made that team almost nigh unbeatable(Of course I don’t expect Pep’s era Barca to return, but something similar). Barca’s midfield has been mediocre since Xavi and Iniesta’s peak expired and I hope Arthur-De Jong works out.

FIFA better upgrade De Jong’s stats. His pace, passing and defending stats made me sick.
