So far Fred looks like a miss. The fundamentals are there and his athleticism is respectable but he hasn’t shown anything special yet in terms of vision or daring. The problem I see is that it’s not clear what’s he’s supposed to add to the starting XI.

But if his role is dependable squad midfielder he can do a job for us, but the idea that we spent 50-60n for a squad man, even in today’s market, would concern me.

I know he doesn't really fit what we need right now at CB but the more I watch Ake the more I think he'll be a bargain .

There are definitely more than enough options for us to look at ahead of him, but there is a lot to like about Ake, from my point of view. Not least of which his versatility (can play at FB is needed) which would be the most interesting thing about him, as far as we are concerned.

  4. I donot rate Aké at all.Think he's a tactical dumbo. I have been watching him for a long time now to see how he develops and what strikes me how often he's somewhere in the midfield when the opponent is penetrating the box with the ball, scoring the goal. It's saver to play him as a midfielder, but in that spot there are better players costing less.
What do you see that I'm missing to rate him for ManUnited?

I've never seen him as tactically weak or incapable. And if that were actually the case, playing him in midfield, even in a holding role, would be the worst thing possible.
I like his strength and determination as a defender, but his height is a possible point of concern for a CB. Seen him play at FB though for Chelsea and I thought he was very good there and he's arguably be better than any we currently have.
I do not rate him ahead of Koulibaly, Manolas, Skriniar, Alderweireld among others, but he would not be the worst buy for me, if somehow it were to happen either...

I don't think he has a real weak point. He's good on the ball, good going forward on set pieces, good defensively albeit a little scattered at times.

He won't end up here because we need someone ready to be our first choice CB. But he belongs at a better team than Bournemouth .

The interesting thing about him is that he's excellent on the ball and he's left footed!

Assuming this is true, good for all parties. Darmian started out quite well for us but somewhere along the way lost his appetite for playing for the red shirt. Or maybe just being in England. Hard to say exactly what. It will be interesting to see whether he recovers good form at Juve, and if so, whether we'll want him back.

Are we gonna call TFM or Axel back? Because Smalling and Rojo are still hurt so we only Phil "********ing" Jones, Bailly and Iceman.

    Agreed. Ake???

We have to shoot much higher, amigos. We’re a reasonably deep squad and Ake would add depth, but we don’t need more depth. We need 2-3 players who would walk into the starting XI, near-world class being preferable.

We don’t need jack-of-all-trade players either. Ok, maybe one and if it’s Ake that’s fine. But we need to be in the market for players from the top shelf, and Ake isn’t such a player.

I hope so, but I don’t know if their loan agreements allow it. Seems the wise thing to do in light of each player’s situation.

It's not, not now at least. Damian is an underrated and undervalued member of the squad. There are more than enough seafood players we should consider ditching way before him, imo.
If nothing else, we can let him go in the summer of he really wants to go. He could be useful to us between now and season's end. Really hope there is nothing true about that story to be perfectly honest.

Timmy might be on his way back (not in Ranieri's plans) but Tuanzebe should stay put: he's injured (metatarsal injury) currently so there's that. But more importantly he was playing regularly with Villa at CB before he got hurt and it stands to reason he will get his place back once fit (and help Villa to gain promotion).
Tuanzebe playing regularly there makes more sense and is what he needs now, as opposed to sporadic games/minutes with us.

Unless Tuanzebe has suffered a serious injury, I’d go eith Tuanzebe over Darmiam.

I’m sure when Matteo goes back to Serie A he’ll be brilliant again but he looked a fish out of water in the PL.

We’re covered with Young and Dalot anyway. This discussion is about a third option for the remainder of the season. Best to go with home grown players, no?

He is also our emergency CB and right now we only have 3 other healthy. One of the healthy is Phil Jones who is guaranteed to break at some point soon. We would be in a jam if Darmian leaves and we lose Jones to injury or another Bailly red. Who is ready to bring up?

I don't disagree with anything you said. I am just worried about depth and selling him means we have to bring up someone and I am not we have a Paddy McNair (was that his name) in the U-23s.

I don't understand this reasoning of keeping Darmian in bank vault as a backup. We have been doing that for two years now.We have been using him only on cup games or when no one else is available. Don't you think if we don't give him proper playing time and use him once in a blue moon his performance will also be affected?. I mean if we are only bothered about having a body in defense why can't we use some youngsters from academy. Atleast they will have a desire to prove themselves. We can sell Darmian and use that money elsewhere.

We should also be thinking about this from Darmian’s perspective. He has no real role for United, which is s problem for an Italy international. He’s good enough to be a regular for a decent club, even if he’s not good enough for United.

So sure, I’d love to stockpile players four deep at every position but that’s not realistic for a foreign player at the prime if his career who wants and deserves to be a regular starter somewhere.

That said, I do agree he comes in handy when our backs have been sidelined with injuries.
