I dunno if we need to close that thread, but if we at least un-sticky it that might improve things. it's just become the go-to for everything related to the team. I've kinda refrained from posting in other threads because, what's the point? that's not where people are looking. the original justification for having everything in one thread was being in crisis-mode... and our state of emergency is over now. do we plan on dumping every thought into that thread for the next year? two years? just worth a bit of debate.
An unintended consequence of Saving The Crew is this sort of pointless nostalgia where everyone chooses to pretend we are one huge happy family. In this scenario we have hundreds more posts about burgers, vegan burgers, northeast Ohio highways, and dozens of other topics that should really carry little to no weight than we do about actual soccer. The Saved The Crew thread is so off this rails now that it serves no purpose other than to serve the vanity of a few select posters.
I'd say unsticky it no later than March 1, but certainly never lock it. Once the new season starts, or even as it seriously approaches, we'll have real Crew news to talk about, the thread will die back gracefully, and we'll gradually start new threads about related sub-topics from the two mega-threads (stadium construction, corporate partnerships, media coverage, the actual performance of our new owners, etc.). We already have an attandance thread and one about Austin news. Those show the beginning of this trend. One of the understandable, but depressing aspects of last season, was that match day threads received such little traffic; we were so focused on talked about existential issues that there wasn't a lot of emotion left over to spend on the actual season. That'll flip back to a more normal proportion this season. The mega-threads, though - especially the first one - they were epic, priceless, and always will be. We've joked about Sirk writing a book about the history of PSV's failed attempt to move the team, using the first mega-thread as the book's narrative spine. Thing is, it's not a joke. That book needs to be written.
We have a winner! Good plan. Thread might be temporarily locked for a while to get traffic back flowing to relevant threads. NOTICE: Everyone, we've got the STC threads sticky until March 1. [Cross-posting to STC thread]
Worry not, precious hang. While STC may have caused some positive after effects in niceness, I am not convinced those effects will be long lived. Your Bigsoccer Crew is still intact. No need to point fingers. This place has always been a bastion of off-topic discussion. I remember all those years ago before I joined Bigsoccer. How every thread was about tits and scoring (off the field). I remember thinking, "is this place even about Crew?" Well Timon reassured me that yes, I would enjoy posting with you guys. Sixteen years later, and I suppose I owe him a thank you. @hardhead - How do we get the original thread to go into the BS hall of fame? As the first recipient? You locked it; you figure it out.
A few deep thoughts (or not really) 1. Saved The Crew thread was never going to be about soccer. I don't necessarily mind it being open but now that we are truly officially saved, I don't go into it as much. I see it more as a true Crew NSR place where people can post about whatever they want. 2. There are plenty of "Fire X" threads to complain about anything soccer right now 3. There isn't a lot of SOCCER being played now but when it does, I'm hoping there will be more soccer threads. 4. Big Soccer has taught me that quite simply there are good people and aholes that support this team and it was great that for the most part, we were able to get along for a year but it took all of a day after the announcement for the whole to revert back to normal.
