Nakedly partisan politics? Seems more like a debate of historical accuracy. Also, about as relevant to the salvation of the Crew as Swenson's, but irrelevant nonetheless.

Why not host our Hell is Real match in Ohio Stadium? Sell 40,000 tickets and bump our overall average to a respectable number. All the league and twitter fans seem to care about is attendance numbers. It’s why Portland and Seattle are on tv so much. Winning the game doesn’t mean shit.

Playing surface and dimensions. And the fact that even having 40,000 people in there would still seem empty and weird.

I think there's still an issue with the size of the field. Too small. When the Crew played there, the field was a bit larger (and I think they had a waiver). The renovations that dropped the filed level made it even smaller. Now you could bring in grass like they did for the Madrid-PSG games, but that was just an exhibition.

Dude...I'm agreeing with you while explaining an alternate interpretation of the phrase "Original Sin" in this context.

I assure you, I understand the global nature of it, and where it (mostly) ended first. It's one reason I said that it has been a part of the human condition.

We're in violent agreement on everything but the Original Sin thing, and even then, I wish people would stop using it - but I understand a possible meaning that isn't so nefarious.

Others have pointed out different issues with this, but what makes you think we'd sell anywhere near 40K tickets to that match?

Not sure why you list Portland on this list. They have a stadium that seats 21K (more this coming year) and they sell out every game. They don't need gimmicks to boost attendance.

Finally, the Crew would take a financial bath on such a scheme. Renting Ohio Stadium, maybe needing to install a grass field. Only getting a cut (if anything) of match day revenue (including $0 parking revenue).

I fully realize it does nothing for the game of soccer. But neither does field turf. Soccer doesn’t matter in the current landscape. All that matters is how many butts we have in attendance. Individal games don’t actually matter. All that matters is season average.
What’s the #1 thing we get hit on from twitter trolls? Attendance, attendance and attendance. I don’t really care what they say, but we almost lost our team because the game is now played in the stands and not on the field.

I just scrolled through San Jose's 2018 page on Wikipedia. It lists their 06/30/18 versus LA Galaxy and Zlatan Ibrahimović as being played at Stanford Stadium where they drew almost 51,000. That's about 2.5 home sellouts in one game, roughly.

On the other hand, SKC sells out every game and no one gives them shit. Let’s make the new stadium hold 1 more than sporting park and just sell it out. Screw big crowds. It’s all about the sellouts.

Time for some Pseudoscience Ticket Sales Analysis...

So counting just the tickets we believe have been sold and nothing else I am showing that we have sold 9,515 STM at a minimum. I would estimate our actual STM sales to currently be closer to or over 10k right now.

This would put us within range of an all-time high for ticket sales and higher than every season since 2000, excluding possibly 2016.

I also think that we will continue to see seats sell quickly and at a solid pace based on the reading I just did. If we do I think we can break 11k season tickets, possibly even 12k.

The biggest variable which I have no way to get a read on is the multi-game packages. Obviously, a spike in those would have a major impact on attendance.

    About the Count:

I went through and did a count of all the available tickets on ticket master. However, rather than just taking that number from the total number of tickets in a section I looked for evidence of tickets being held back.

If there is evidence that tickets are being held back I do not count the tickets after that as being sold and instead count them against us as unsold/in reserve. I think this is a pretty conservative approach because while there will be STM who give up their seats after today (which are currently showing as sold), there are people who are going to renew their tickets after that boundary that we cannot see because the tickets around them are being withheld.

We currently have 2740 tickets remaining for sale and based on a conservative estimate 7580 tickets being held back.

I am going to do another full count on Monday around noon to see where we are.

To think we almost lost our team due to attendance numbers and what the Twitter trolls think means you are stuck on day ones narrative. They shyed away from that by MLS cup 2017.

The last paragraph is the key point. Ohio State does not play nice with others.

I think the field was okay when Crew played there, but they lowered it in the stadium rebuild, and now there isn't enough room. Even when they did Real Madrid, they brought in dirt and field, but still didn't use every bit of space. There are flexible standards for the field, but I think it is currently too narrow.

Once this initial wave of new buyers starts to ebb, the FO needs to aggressively market full season tickets as the only way to guarantee seats at the new stadium. I talked to a guy last night who's somewhat of a local celebrity and used to be a STH. He is on the fence about buying but said he would if it ensures he gets first priority on season tickets in two years.

The 2000-01 renovations that removed the track and replaced it with AA deck are why dimensions are way too small for soccer now.

    The 'land feeling left out?

But in all seriousness, I think this would really hurt the Cincy turnout and somewhat hurt the Columbus turnout. Cincy's travel would be equated to us going to Chicago. The numbers that will travel to Cincy for us outweighs the numbers those that will travel to Chicago exponentially. And for Columbus fans, that becomes a full day event for all as opposed to maybe many who work or have other commitments in the morning or afternoon.

I hate to ask this question again... but....

When are we going to close this thread? I kinda think keeping this thread open deters us from creating new threads and... getting back to normal. I don't need any more therapy. We ********ing won.

Sometimes I want to sort whether I'm reading about the draft, or ticket sales, or rants about slavery. (THANKS OBAMA) Call me crazy...
