Genoa started their season with a 2-1 win hosted newly promoted Empoli. Empoli scored in the 90+4th minute to avoid being shut out.

Genoa won 1-0 to make 2 out of 3 wins with 1 game postponed. Next they go to Lazio, who has 2 wins and 2 losses. Their losses are to the top two clubs, Juventus and Napoli.

    https://www.fifa.com/news/y=2018/m=9/news=the-week-in-numbers-23.html says:

"10 goals in all competitions is what Genoa’s Krzysztof Piatek became the first player from the top five European leagues to reach on Wednesday. Lionel Messi is on eight. The 23-year-old Pole also became the first player since Andriy Shevchenko in 1999 to score in his first five Serie A appearances."

Piatek scored 21 goals for MKS Cracovia Krakow in Poland last season, which was third in the Ekstraklasa, including the regular season and the end with a top group and bottom group.

Genoa won their last game 2-0 hosting last place Chievo, who has -1 point due to a 3 point penalty. On Sunday, Genoa goes to Frosinone, who is second-to-last and would be last if it wasn't for Chievo's penalty. Genoa is seventh in points and fifth in points per game as they have a game in hand over every club except Milan who Genoa's postponed game was against. On Sunday 7 October at 6:25 A.M. USA Eastern, ESPN2 will show Genoa hosting Parma. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if Genoa has never been on a channel in as many households in the USA as ESPN2. Parma is in twelfth. The last time Genoa was in a European spot was when they were sixth in 2014-2015, but they did not get a license to be in the Europa League, which let rival Sampdoria, who was seventh, replace them.

Krzysztof Piatek scored in the 33rd and 36th minutes of Genoa's 2-1 win at Frosinone that just ended. Frosinne had more shots and shots on goal. Genoa is in seventh, and they have a game in hand.

    Juventus 1-1 Genoa

After 8 wins, this was the first Serie A game Juventus didn't win. Krzysztof Piatek, who leads Serie A with 9 goals and the next most is 6, didn't score. Daniel Bessa, who scored 3 goals in 28 games last season between Verona and Genoa, scored his first goal of the season. Bessa is 25 and had not scored in Serie A before last season. Juventus leads by 7 points, which will go down to 4 if Napoli wins at Udinese.

Krzysztof Piatek scored in the 88th minute for the last goal of Genoa's 3-1 win hosting Atalanta. Genoa took the lead from an own goal in the 45+6th minute. Atalanta equalized in the 55th minute, and Genoa scored the winner in the 67th minute. Atalanta went down 2 men, with a second yellow in the 81st minute and a straight red in the 90+3rd minute. Piatek's 13 goals lead Serie A, and he is second behind Messi in goals in the top five leagues.

Madrid hosted the Copa Libertadores final.

Krzysztof Piatek was sold to AC Milan while having 13 of Genoa's 25 goals. Genoa just won their first game without him as it was Empoli 1-3 Genoa. Genoa was 1-1-7 away and tied for the fewest away points with 4, which is up to 7. They moved up 2 spots to 13th and have 23 points. 18th place Bologna has 14 points and is on pace for 25, so Genoa doesn't have to play well to avoid relegation. Empoli is 3 points ahead of Bologna and wasted their chance at getting farther above the relegation zone.

Genoa's next four games are easy. They host 8th place Lazio and 11th place Sassuolo and go to Bologna and last place Chievo.

Piatek was sold from Genoa to AC Milan for €39,90 million. Does anyone know if Milan wil owe Genoa more depending on his future performances and/or goals scored?

Many cities and towns in the United States are named after places in Europe. I live in New York, and this morning I saw on a map that there is a Genoa, New York.

Genoa got a straight red in the 28th minute at second place Napoli before any goals were scored. Napoli took the lead, but Genoa's Darko Lazović equalized in the 45+3rd minute, and Genoa didn't allow a goal in the second half to get a 1-1 draw. Genoa is in 14th. They have 34 points like 13th place Parma and a better goal differential than Parma, but Serie A's tiebreaker is head-to-head, and Parma won both games. Genoa has 7 games left. They're 7 points above Bologna, who's the top club in the relegation zone, and Bologna has 8 games left.

On Sunday, Genoa is the away club against stadium-mates Sampdoria. Genoa alternates home and away games for the rest of the season.

    Genoa 1-1 AS Roma

AS Roma's Stephan Al Shaarawy scored in the 82nd minute. Cristian Romero equalized in the 90+1st minute. AS Roma's goalkeeper tripped a Genoa player, and the goalkeeper saved Antonio Sanabria's 90+6th penalty kick. With 3 games left, Genoa is 16th with 36 points. Udinese is 17th with 34, Empoli is 18th with 32, and Frosinone and Chievo can't catch Genoa. The tiebreaker is head-to-head. Genoa wins the tiebreaker over Empoli and loses the tiebreaker to Udinese. Genoa survives as long as they don't get passed by Udinese and Empoli. As long as Empoli gets 4 or fewer points from their last 3 games, Genoa survives. Empoli goes to ninth place Sampdoria, hosts sixth place Torino, and ends at third place Inter.

Yesterday Genoa was on ESPNews in the USA. Domenico Criscito scored a penalty kick in the 89th minutes for a 1-1 draw hosting Cagliari, who moved up to 12th with the point. Right as I went to check scores, Empoli scored in the 65th minute to take a 2-1 lead hosting Torino. Torino's goal was scored by Iago Falque, who played for Genoa in 2014-2015 and scored 13 goals, which was tied for ninth, and Genoa was sixth. By not winning, Genoa lost the ability to clinch safety today, and if Empoli holds on they will move 1 point above Genoa and send Genoa into the relegation zone. Parma is scoreless, and if the games end this way, Parma would be 1 point above Empoli. The tiebreaker is head-to-head, and Parma wins over Genoa and/or Empoli, while Genoa wins over Empoli. As I typed, Empoli scored to go up 3-1. While every club plays their last game next Sunday, I will be on vacation and the farthest distance from Genoa I have ever been. As a fan of Manchester United, the New York Red Bulls, and Genoa, my favorite club in a country has never been relegated while I was a fan.

Empoli won 4-1. Parma won 1-0 hosting Fiorentina from an 80th minute own goal, which clinched safety for Parma. Four clubs don't know if they will be relegated. The strange thing is that 14th and 15th can be relegated, but not 16th. Udinese cannot finish behind Fiorentina and Genoa, who play each other. If those three clubs finish tied with or without being tied with Bologna, Udinese cannot be the worst club in the tiebreaker. What I don't understand is that Fiorentina is listed below Bologna on Wikipedia and Serie A's site. Fiorentina has the most three-way head-to-head points. Wikipedia states the tiebreaker used between Fiorentina and Udinese, but ignores Bologna. Bologna has 1 fewer game played, but since the tiebreakers on Wikipedia do not include games or points per game, Wikipedia made a mistake.
Here are the points and remaining games:

    14. Bologna: 40, at Lazio tomorrow, ends hosting Napoli
    15. Fiorentina: 40, hosts Genoa
    16. Udinese: 40, at Cagliari
    17. Empoli: 38, at Inter
    18. Genoa: 37, at Fiorentina

Fiorentina had 25 points through 17 games. They have lost their last 5 games. In their last 20, they have 2 wins, 9 draws, and 9 losses. After six consecutive seasons in fourth, fifth, or eighth, it would be shocking if they got relegated. Fiorentina will be relegated if Empoli wins and:

Genoa beats Fiorentina by at least 2 and Bologna gets at least 1 point, with Fiorentina being the worst in a three-way head-to-head goal differential tiebreaker with Genoa and Udinese or

Genoa beats Fiorentina by at least 2 and Udinese gets at least 1 point, with Fiorentina being the worst in a three-way head-to-head goal differential tiebreaker with Genoa and Bologna or

Genoa beats Fiorentina by 1, Udinese gets at least 1 point, and Bologna gets at least 1 point

If Genoa beats Fiorentina by 1, Fiorentina would survive a three-way or four-way tie. In a four-way tie between Genoa, Fiorentina, Udinese, and Bologna, Bologna would be relegated. Bologna will also be relegated with Udinese gets at least 1 point and Genoa beats Fiorentina by 1. In that case, Genoa would win the three-way head-to-head tiebreaker. Fiorentina and Bologna would be tied in points and goal differential in a three-way with Genoa and by themselves. According to Wikipedia, after head-to-head goal differential, the next tiebreaker is goal differential, which has Fiorentina +2 and Bologna -9. Head-to-head goals and head-to-head away goals are not tiebreakers. The only way Empoli finishes tied with a club above them is with a win and a club above club getting a draw, or a draw and a loss for Bologna. In that case, Genoa would be relegated and the tiebreakers would be less important. Empoli will be relegated if they don't win and Genoa wins, or if they lose and Genoa draws, because Genoa has the head-to-head tiebreaker. I hope I didn't make any mistakes. It would be simpler if the tiebreaker was goal differential.

Bologna clinched safety with a 3-3 draw at Lazio. To survive, Genoa needs one of these:

    Win by at least 2
Win by 1 and Udinese win or draw so Genoa can win the head-to-head tiebreaker over Fiorentina with Udinese above the tie
Win by 1 and Empoli draw or loss
    Draw and Empoli loss

I chose not to check scores until the games were over. Genoa played a scoreless draw at Fiorentina, and both of them survived. Inter Milan had more shots on goal than Empoli, 14 to 4, and Inter scored the last goal of their 2-1 win in the 81st minute. When I checked the scores, it was in the 90+9th minute, and a few seconds later it ended to clinch another Serie A season for Genoa, who won the head-to-head tiebreaker over Empoli. Part of the reason Inter vs. Empoli had so much stoppage time was that Inter got a straight red in the 90+7th minute.

Genoa won 2-0 hosting Juventus, and had 5 draws and 5 losses after that. When the schedule was made, I wonder what odds you could have gotten on Genoa's last win being over Juventus.

In a game that was on ESPN in the USA, Genoa came back 3 times to get a 3-3 draw at AS Roma. Genoa scored 3 goals in 3 of 38 games last season, and they haven't scored more than 3 in their last 122 Serie A games. AS Roma was 11 spots, 28 points, and 36 goal differential better than Genoa last season. https://www.espn.com/soccer/report?gameId=554577 is an article titled "Roma blow lead 3 times in 6-goal thrilling draw."

    Genoa 2-1 Fiorentina

Using goal differential and then goals scored as tiebreakers, Genoa is in fifth and rival Sampdoria is in last. Serie A's tiebreaker is head-to-head, but that doesn't help before clubs played each other.

Genoa has 1 point from their last 5 games to rank them 19th with 5 points from 7 games. The only club below them is Sampdoria with 3 points. Since they share a stadium, it has been "misery loves company." All clubs have played 7 games except for Sassuolo and Brescia, who had a game postponed to December. I don't know why it was postponed. Those are two of the four clubs with 6 points.

Genoa trailed and didn't score until the 66th minute. They got their first win in 7 games and got out of the relegation zone, although the clubs behind them have a game in hand that they play tomorrow.
