Wood finishes the first half of the Bundesliga season with 3 goals and 2 assists, with 14 appearances (10 starts) in the league and 2 sub appearances in the DFB Pokal. Hannover 96 sits 17th in the table with only 17 goals scored in the league. Wood's 3 goals puts him in a 3-way tie for most in the squad in league play.
How much more does he need to perform so they can permanently buy him? In addition to avoiding relegation.
H96's real, or let's say, biggest issue, is defending. Their GA is outrageous at 35 - tied with Stuttgart and just 3 better than fellow 11 pointers Nunberg. H96's GF is not *as* bad, at 17 - better than Stuttgart and Nunberg and tied with Mainz. But despite a better GD than Stuttgart, H96 finds themselves a few points behind, due to goal coming at wrong time. If Bobby hits enough goals at the right time to move H96 over Studgarden and Ausburg, that would make him a hometown hero.
Wood starts in a training game v. NEC Hola vom Trainingsplatz! In 🔟 Minuten startet unser erstes #Testspiel gegen @necnijmegen - mit dieser #H96-Aufstellung: Esser - Albornoz, Anton, Akpoguma, Felipe, Sorg - Muslija, Walace, Schwegler, Müller - Wood. 🙌🚀💥 #Vamos96 #NiemalsAllein ⚫️⚪️💚— Hannover 96 (@Hannover96) January 6, 2019
ends 0-0. Sounds like Bobby missed a sitter. #Vamos96 #H96 #NiemalsAllein ⚫️⚪️💚| #H96NEC 0:0— Hannover 96 (@Hannover96) January 6, 2019
Sounds like Bobby really missed/was saved on a sitter. H96 plays Zulte in a few days of this Dutch mini-tour.

Ah, the eternal optimism of the fan... Das Wood und Ostrzolek überhaupt Spielzeit kriegen, zeigt wie am Arsch wir sind. #H96 #vamos96— root9216 (@DerGrosseHSV) January 9, 2019
Pretty sure I saw that this ended 3-3 but Wood got no mention in any of the HSV goals. But giving up 3 to Belgian club is not super-encouraging (though, to be fair, I'm not sure how 96 defence line-up for this tune-up)
Wood played the 1st half, all 6 goals happened in the 2nd half. although H96 are rubbish props to them for a comeback after being down 3-0.
No goals in 135 mins with Wood on the field is not good for Wood. Giving up 3 in 45 to Zulte is not good for H96... So, 19 looks like 18, is what I'm hearing.
Wood is getting public criticism from the H96 coach and H96 fans seem to be losing patience with him. Basically he's missing too many crystal clear scoring chances (inefficient). H96 are also considering getting another striker too also because of some injury issues.
Brace in today's friendly against Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo. Und da ist auch schon der dritte Treffer. Bobby Wood schlägt zum zweiten Mal zu gegen @HeraclesAlmelo. Mit 3:0 geht es auch in die „Halbzeit“ nach 60 Minuten. #H96HER #H96 #NiemalsAllein ⚫️⚪️💚— Hannover 96 (@Hannover96) January 13, 2019
Maybe he needs public excoriation by his coach more often... I didn't look at who they ran out today but Heracles is shockingly not terrible this year (although, TBF, their GA is about 13/14th worst in Ered while the sit at 6th at the break iirc.) They are having a very decent season due to some good scoring numbers and grabbing points from tight games.

The criticism of Bobby is fair- he is not efficient on his easier chances. But he creates “out of nothing” goals here and there. He’s a high BL2, low BL1 striker. Hannover knew what they were getting- his performance should be no surprise to them. Props to Bobby for keeping his head down and his work-rate up. He’s a real pro. And a good striker- just not a really good striker.
I think it was last year I remember watching a game where he created this ridiculous volley out of nowhere and hit the crossbar. Later on he was set up with a golden opportunity in the box and completely missed the target. Summed up Wood quite nicely.
