Tony's a good player. I'm glad we could retain him and the club's probably happy to have him for less. He gives us more options.

Correct. The part of the story they published about him finding ways to help the younger players was awesome. There is a lot of talk about guys like KB and Nicky being on the coaching staff. I've never got the vibe from them that they could be coaches, per say. Tony, on the other hand, I see that from. Especially in the academy with how much he focuses on academics

Kyle did say in an interview that he would've liked to have been a teacher if he didn't end up a pro athlete. Maybe he's got more coaching ability than we know.

Kyle seems like a lifer who is outward facing; Tony seems like a lifer who is inward facing. One reps us to the community and helps perhaps the way Bomma does, and the other coaches.

Correct. It would be very RSL to have him do the work through December and then have a new person come in with a different vision in January

In addition to the new playoff format MLS is strongly considering an earlier start to the regular season. Such a plan would utilize stadiums in warmer climates and those with domes (not sure which ones have them) hosting teams from the cold climates.

Atlanta has a dome but they're also in a warmer climate so thats kind of funny
Montreal has access to a dome
    Vancouver is a dome

This indicates that we might see more of the older schedules, that were home heavy in the summer, for RSL as opposed to the more recent balanced home/away ones. I don't like that at all. But I also don't want to be at the RioT in February. Well at least not for a game at the beginning of the season. CCL was a different thing

RSL players part of prediction for January USMNT camp - Defenders Acosta and Glad, Midfielder (?) Lennon, and Forward Baird.

Looks like the author, Joe Tansey for SBI, thinks Beltran's return pushes Brooks back up to Midfield.

Acosta can't get past Herrera for RSL and is in the discussion for USMNT camp? Is the writer or RSL out of touch? (Note, this is not an exclusive or.)

Like what the MLR is doing this season. The season starts on the last weekend in January, but the Warrior's first home game isn't until March. Each team has three bye weeks and the Warriors have two between the start of the season and their first home game. The rest are away games in warmer climates.

    1. It is hilarious that Lennon is being pushed up the field by the writer despite just winning best defender of the team for RSL. The kid's best chance to see the field is at RB. I don't get why people are soooo hesitant to accept this. For some reason people were/are okay with it with Yedlin but aren't with Lennong. I don't get it.

    2. Herrera not on the list but Acosta on the list shows how much this person actually watched RSL this past season

    3. Similarly, Glad didn't have a stellar season and I would be shocked if he was invited. It would be great, but his 2018 campaign wasn't what we had all wanted it to be in terms of growth.

    4. I like the thought of giving the ROTY a chance with the national team. Here is to hoping Baird continues his growth.

Second stage of the re-entry draft is today. This is where you can select players and negotiate a lower salary. Here is the full list of players.

    RSL players in the draft:
    • Luke Mulholland
    • Taylor Peay
    • Demar Phillips
    • Luis Silva
    • Sunny

KB has always been a coach on the field, and especially the training ground. Nick, not so much. I always felt that Ned and Nat would make the best coaches, but I'll be somewhat surprised if Kyle doesn't end up in a coaching role.

Tony is very thoughtful, smart and articulate. However, hes very understated which isn't usually a key coaching characteristic. But then again, so is Jamison and look at him.

For what it's worth, Bobby Warshaw lists his top five at every position in 2018, and only one of our players even got close to the list - Jefferson Savarino in the "other four" at what he considers the weakest pool of any position.

It's hard to get too upset at any of the lists that Warshaw made. They're logical, maybe not perfect, but nothing glaring. Which is troublesome for RSL in a lot of ways. Sure, we're a team that HAS to perform better than the sum of our parts, but we need someone to be on this list in some fashion. To me, this means a couple things happened this last year that have to be stated.

    1. Our GM didn't bring in top end talent like we had thought/hoped in at least a few spots.
    2. Individuals didn't perform, either, though. Rusnak, Plata, Savarino, Kreilach, etc. They were all spotty in performances this season.
    3. But that wasn't all their own fault - our coach lost his tactics for a long while before settling on some that didn't exactly accentuate the talent we have, or at least not to the best of their abilities.
    4. Interestingly, the old guard still gets some respect from Warshaw so long as the player is on a good team. See Jeff Lorentowitz for an example of this. Nicky and KB, by virtue of just being on this squad, are done and dusted. Yet somehow Ozzie Alonso is still there. I'm not saying Nicky is a top 5 GK (he can be, but isn't as consistent) or that KB is a top 5 DMid (he simply isn't) but the team bias shows. Which, to Bobby's credit, he acknowledges in the comment section of the article.

I think Brooks needs another season at LB. One in which he shows improvement and shows solid signs of “yeah, this is the position”. When/If that happens I think he will see camp later in 2019 possibly.

Honestly the only Monarchs signing that would make me really excited would be Taylor Booth.
