Getting superstars under the age of 26 could help increase attendance. Signing a 37 year old Ibra or a 35 year old Pirlo won’t cut it. It may be good in the short run but when the novelty wears off, you are left with an overpaid , non contributing washed up , probably always injured player. There is a reason why the rest of the world doesn’t start Over 33’s. Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi notwithstanding.
Name a league that doesn't sign a "37 year-old Ibra" or "35 year-old Pirlo" Go ahead, I'll wait. You can even add in Rooney if you want. MLS has 24 teams. How many old stars has the league signed in the last year? How many has the 20 team EPL signed? Serie A? Ligue Un? I'm sorry, but complaining about Ibrahimovic or Pirlo is weak, tired, sauce.
I never really followed Ligue 1 or EPL but Serie A doesn't really have any other than a few domestics and most clubs never really did for as long as I remember. They had 40 year olds in (GK) Buffon at Juventus and Totti at Roma until 2017 and 2018 but they had been with the same club since their teenage years. Fabio Quagliarella is about to turn 36 but again he along with the others are/were domestic homegrown players and not expensive foreign superstars. Juventus still has 32 year old WC silver medalist Mario Mandžukić but he is still young enough to make a difference. He will most likely be gone come June when he turns 33. Also, AC Milan rejected Ibrahimovic's bid to go back to the club. They made noise about it but Rino Gattuso didn't really need him. The Italian media only harped about Ibra being too old to make a difference.
This age stuff is all BS. I’m 58 now, and i’m STILL as fast as when i was 26.......<shifty>....yeah, i was that slow at 26, lol
You should try out for the Quakes. You will probably blow them all away. Or at least win us more than FOUR games!
We are in constant contact with the MLS league and are quietly focused on delivering expansion requirements. I believe we will exceed those requirements because of the great team we have in place and the additional firepower that has been added!!!— Kevin Nagle (@KevinNagleMLS) December 22, 2018 Hmm... additional firepower.... hmm....
Progress, perhaps? Or is it too little too late? https://www.sacrepublicfc.com/news_article/show/987395
Article from the Bee. (shrug) I like the fact that Burkle is on board, because he tends not to jump in unless things are well underway toward a successful outcome. His purchase of the land parcels surrounding the stadium site are also a positive, since if the MLS bid does not come to the fore, the ownership of the proposed stadium site is still in SRFC's hands. I just fear that there are far shinier pennies for MLS to look at in STL and PHX and (dog forbid) Detroit, and that the days of fanbase-directed MLS expansion have passed us by. I would dearly love to be wrong about that.
Congrats, that means Sacramento will almost certainly get in at some point, whether it's 28, 29, 30... I went up there for the first ever Republic game (at that college football stadium) and have been back a few times since... it's always a good time. As a Quakes fan I'm just glad that when MLS has the Galaxy play LAFC during rivalry week the Quakes will soon have Sacramento instead of Vancouver (they'll probably get Austin as the third wheels in Cascadia and Texas)....
Finally, something that constitutes good news. Agreed, 28, 29, or 30 Sac is getting in. St Louis and Phoenix loom as Garber's shiny new objects......especially St Louis. No reason Sac shouldnt be shovel ready now though. Tired of being the second fiddle though. Will be so happy when we finally get it.
I am so disappointed in all of you. One little, teeny bit of so-called "good news" and you're all abandoning me out here on the doom ledge. I won't be fooled. So I'll be here when you ninnies come crawling back in despair after reality hits with all its brutal, withering force.
