They could do 40 teams without relegation... and if they ever get that big they will have 40 teams without relegation.
So 7 teams from each conference make the playoffs in 2019. Here's looking at an 8th place Union team...though i can also see a higher finish but loss in the first round of a single elimination game...
With this new format, it's entirely possible the Union will never host a playoff game again. It's also possible that Atlanta will never play one on the road again. Just what the league wants!
The single round eliminations definitely make it harder for the Union to get a home playoff game. On the other hand it rewards regular season performance so I'm OK with it. It's good that they made the whole thing shorter, too.
ANY GIVEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON THE ROAD!!!! It doesn’t flow quite as well but, I don’t know, it could be a rallying cry for the guy who gets Curtins July dead cat bounce? Yeah, yeah, I’ll work on it.
Whatever your complaints are about the new MLS playoff format, it's still superior to the College Football Playoff format.
Maybe the Union are about to acquire a big name player and the league is going to highlight the season starting by advertising the game and the flashy new star. Christmas is such a magical time of year when hope comes even to those tarnished by years of FO ineptitude. Of course it will probably be TFC with the big name but whatever.
Just like when Beckham or Dempsey came to down, the PR department will market the living shit out of the big name opposing player.
Hmm 3 games I already know for sure I can’t make.. 1 I’ll be out of town, the other two I’ll be at weddings... writing really on the wall.. pretty sure I officially won’t reDoop and just go straight stub hub... if you guys are looking to move extra tickets this year at any point keep me in mind.
