Not to mention his distribution - ManU never caught up to the outlet throws to Robertson which put us on the attack and behind their MF on several occasions.

BBC gave Fabinho the MOTM. Couldn't agree more. What a display.

Fab and Gini ran the game. I'm losing count of the times Fab wins the ball back, or stops a counter attack cold, in the oppo half with precisely timed clean tackles.

Superb player and that's not even mentioning his slide rule chip to Mane for the goal.

All the people doubting Fabinho and not giving him time to settle - even after Klopp said he needed to learn our system.

    • Liverpool are now 19 points ahead of United - their biggest ever lead over them after the first 17 games of an English top-flight season (based on relevant points for a win rules).
    • Liverpool have recorded their biggest Premier League victory over Manchester United at Anfield since also winning 3-1 in March 2011.
    • Manchester United have now conceded 29 goals in the Premier League this season, one more than they did in the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign and the most goals they've conceded at this stage of a top-flight campaign since 1962-63.
    • Liverpool recorded 36 shots against Manchester United - the most the Red Devils have faced in a Premier League match since Opta started recording shot data in 2003-04.
    • Manchester United have picked up 26 points after their first 17 Premier League games, their worst points haul in the top-flight at this stage since 1990-91 (also 26 points).
    • Xherdan Shaqiri has become just the second Liverpool player to score at least two goals in their first ever match against Manchester United for the Reds, and the first since Nigel Clough did so back in January 1994.
    • Liverpool's Alisson has made as many errors leading to goals in the Premier League this season as Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius combined in 2017-18 (2).

the guardian's summary of Manure's performance .... LMAO

This was beyond dire – dire squared, dire football played in dire fashion by a dire selection. Imagine a bad plan, enacted badly, by someone not very good at enacting bad plans. Imagine a negative approach, applied with extreme negativity by a group of players feeling negative about the actual merits of all this negativity.

Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool’s ”just perfect” performance after recording their first Premier League win over Manchester United in four years.

Klopp’s side returned to the top of the Premier League table thanks to a 3-1 win, secured by Xherdan Shaqiri’s late brace after Sadio Mané’s opening goal. United had equalised against the run of play through Jesse Lingard in the first half and came within 18 minutes of claiming another unlikely point at Anfield.

However, Shaqiri’s crucial intervention off the substitutes’ bench ensured Liverpool’s dominance was reflected in the scoreline.

“It was a brilliant start, one of the best performances we had since I’ve been in Liverpool,” Klopp said in his post-match press conference.
“For the first half hour we were outstanding, scored only one but I don’t think anyone expects four or five against this United team. How we played was just perfect.

“We got our dominance back step-by-step and Shaq closed the game. That was unbelievably nice, and deserved.

“You need a bit of luck and both goals were deflected but you need that. The first goal – what a goal. A super pass and a super control and finish. Nearly a perfect night.”

The victory saw Liverpool return to the top of the table, one point ahead of defending champions Manchester City, with the two sides set to meet on 3 January.

City spent Saturday night at the summit after their 3-1 victory over Everton but Klopp insisted that he and his players are paying no attention to Pep Guardiola’s side.

“We ignored [City’s result] completely. I cannot say we passed [a test] because we didn’t think about it. I didn’t mention it one time.

“I had time to watch City yesterday because we play them in a few weeks but after the good start of Everton the game headed in one direction and City had the normal problem of playing Champions League game then on Saturday lunchtime.

“But we are not silly. We know the table. Are we focused on it or not? I’ve said it before. We played United tonight, not against United and City. We really didn’t speak about it.

“That already helps. It’s not like if City win we come into training and say ‘did you see what City did?’. We are focused on our thing, and we will see where that leads us to.

“At the end of the season, when we are still around them, where we have to think about it and start hoping they have to drop points or whatever, maybe, I don’t know.

“But at the moment, we respect them a lot and they respect us and we have to win football games against all the others. Then we meet on January 3 again, and then we think about City a lot.”

    1) Allison has given up 6 goals so far this season. We gave up 50 last year. Makes it easier to over look the blunder.
    2) we gave Karius an ovation on his first game back after losing us the CL title. What more do you want

The way Cline play today he's eased my concerns about the right back position. I also think he'll get better and better as he gets more game time.

I think Fabino has made that position his. He strong defensively and gives us the cutting-edge going forward. That chip to Mane was just beautiful. Henderson comes in and I think 90% of his passes were sideways or backwards. Fabino is going to make a huge difference for us the rest of the season.

I think firmino showed a little bit more what he's all about and hopefully he continues to get to that production that I know he can have for us. He was one of those players that I thought was going to make a significant jump in the number of goals for us this year. Still has time to prove me right.

Robertson worked his ass off but he's got to work on those Corner kicks this week

I'm ok with Henderson playing for him sometimes and alongside him sometimes, as I am with Milner, I just don't care for Hendo and Milner at the same time. GW, Keita and 1 other in big games.
i think today's midfield might be the strongest. That's the one I would field if we draw a big name in the CL

This needs to be brought to the forefront because it was rather prophetic for when it was written

With all due respect, it took an entire season for Karius's errors to look that bad and for the knives to be sharpened. So steady on, old chap.

For all those people complaining about us not being as exciting as last year, these last two matches had all the verve and effort and passion that we so often exhibited in our run to the CL final.

Alison - yes, it was an error. thankfully it didn't cost us any points. love the way he acknowledged the error and went right back to being a commanding presence and continuing to distribute the ball as if nothing had happened.

Clyne - fantastic performance. never would have guessed that was his first league start of the year. Are we in possession of 3 of england's best 4 right backs?

Lovren / VvD - both were fantastic. Lukaku has been lost in someone's pocket.

Robertson - the lad just keeps improving. Seemed to be everywhere. Best left back in the world on current form?

Fabinho - his coming out party. A couple nervy moments on the ball early, but his ability to pass forward through a congested midfield is a HUGE asset to us.

Keita - you can see he gets it, but he has yet to have his breakout performance. amazing energy from him - he'll come good.

Gini - wow, really ran the show today. One of his best performances for us.

Bobby - when he's the tip of the spear he seems so much more comfortable. A goal when he wriggled through 4 utd defenders (or do we call them cones?) would have been goal of the year candidate.

Mane - glad he broke his drought. He really is a handful.

Salah - Was lively. On another day he'd have two goals.

Shaqiri - That's why he's the bargain of the season.

You don’t think Burnley was Keita’s breakout performance? He was the best player on the field that night.

Hopefully we will eventually see Keita play as one of the 2 holding players in the 4-2-3-1. In yesterday’s match Fabinho and Gini were way more than just holding players. They joined the attack and kept us on the front foot. Keita can do that as well. That would open up an opportunity for Shaqiri or Sturridge to start with the front 3 from last season in certain games.
