When the Dutch league started with experimenting with VAR, they had the VAR in a truck at the stadium. Soon unhappy fans came to the truck to "show they were unhappy" that the VAR didnot intervene in a situation. So now the KNVB has a centralized spot at the FA's centre. Well, that didnot last long as unhappy with VAR failures fans threatened to come to the central spot, so it had to be guarded now.
Young male fans of male teams can be downright scary. They drink heavily before games and are many of them are primitive with their chanting, fighting with fans of the opposing team, racial slurs and other hooligan-like behavior. One thinks: this is what the uncivilized do for entertainment. The ManCity bus passed through at large group of Liverpool fans outside the stadium at Anfield last year and it was an ugly scene. And where comes this tradition of setting off flares at games? Yes, let's fill the stadium with thick, acrid smoke--that'll be fun! Crazy. I saw a lit flare at a Portland NWSL game this past year, which surprised me. Don't get it, really.
It is starting in women's football here as well. The Man Utd fans are very vocal and looking to start agro on social network on any subject and are quite abusive at games. For a newly formed club to have such a bad fan base... they clearly come from men's football.
I hope men's football supporters stay were they are and don't come infesting women's football. We don't need them.

My wife and I are psyched for June to arrive. We've got the game tickets we want and a general itinerary. Now, we're each spending time every day working on our French language skills. It's not a brand new language to either of us, we both could have gotten by (barely) back in the old days, but it's been about 50 years. This week, I've been working on past and future tenses. Vive la France!
50 years is a lot of time, not that our language has evolved much besides the slang and many English words being used.
In everyday French you only need one past tense, the imperfect. Ive been to Euro 2016 and -contrary to popular belief- they seemed to want to help in English as well.

I should have responded at the time you posted this. This occurs, as a planned event, at the field-side edge of the Rose City Riveters area (designated fan group area), when the Thorns score a goal. It's sort of like fireworks on the 4th of July (or le quatorze juillet in France). The same thing happens with the Timbers with the Timbers Army. It's very well controlled, is not fans throwing flares, is a Thorns/Timbers tradition, and is not dangerous. It's not threatening, nor scary, to anyone. Those two fan groups, occasionally, can be obnoxious, though for the Riveters it's ordinarily more like sisterly/brotherly trash talking obnoxious. Such as, when the opposing keeper is in goal at the Riveters end of the field, the keeper always is greeted by the chant, "Dodgy Keeper." I think that opposing keepers would feel disrespected not to get the chant.
