Interesting article about which MSFL 3rd tier clubs could be promoted.... https://www.msfl.cz/clanek/kdo-bude-zadat-o-profesionalni-licenci - Lisen at the moment does not have any interest - Kromeriz have said they are interested, and their stadium is good 'enough' for the 2nd tier - Otrokovice... nope - Petrkovice.... nope - Velke Mezirici... nope Kromeriz have played in the 2.liga in the past, and it would be interesting to see them back at that level.
Sokol Zapy lead the 3rd tier CFL, but the village only has 662 people. No idea if they are interested in promotion. http://www.skzapy.cz/cz/fotogalerie.html - Domažlice could be up for promotion, as I think they are supported by Plzen. - Vysehrad played in the 2.liga a few years back, and did not do very well. - Loko Vltavin is another Prague area club, and they currently sit in 4th place. - I suppose 6th place Olympia Radotin could be interested, as they have the backing.
Down in the 4th tier in Moravia... - Blansko won all 15 matches and most certainly will be interested in promotion back to the MSFL. - Rosice are in 2nd and they have also played in the MSFL Divize E - Novy Jicin are in 1st place, and I assume they would be interested in promotion - 2nd place Opava II had a tough go of it last time they were in the MSFL - 3rd place Slavicin are another club which could want promotion
I am hoping for Lisen, would be interesting to see another Brno team. Maybe the next Drnovice (if anyone remembers them)?
That is what it was for me when I was playing in czech. I was a young teenager playing for Breclav, but our breaks were 5-6 months.
Plzen vs Roma is about 20 minutes from now, and the match is sort of meaningless for the visitors. Plzen need to equal or better CSKA's result against Real Madrid to advance to Europa League's next phase, so a win guarantees advancement, but they could also advance with draw or a loss in the right circumstances as well.
Kovarik just beat the defender, took his time, set up his shot, and calmly blasted it 20 meters over the goal into the terrace. Plzen not having the most possession but they are getting chances when they go forward. Actually, Plzen are starting to get a bit more of the ball last few minutes.
Plzen just barely missed on a great cross... Really need to get a goal too because CSKA have scored in Madrid. Edit: Plzen looking dangerous still, but CKSA have scored a 2nd. Certainly Madrid can still come back, but Plzen have to assume they need a win to advance.
Goal Plzen! They've been knocking on the door since late in the 1st and finally get one. If results hold they advance, but a long way to go.
Roma equalize on their chance of the half, and a massive mistake by Limbersky. 20 Minutes left and prior to the goal this half was all Plzen. No change in Madrid. Edit: Plzen back ahead just minutes later! What a crazy half, but with just over 15 minutes to go Plzen back in front.
FT Plzen 2 - 1 Roma Very fun 2nd half, and Plzen are through to Europa League. Plzen remains undefeated at home against Italian teams (2 wins and 2 draws), and CSKA probably becomes the first team to beat Real Madrid twice and finish 4th in CL group... The only downside, and it's more of Czechs Abroad commentary, is that Schick was arguably the worst player on the field until Pellegrini got sent off in less than 10 minutes. He plays well for our national team, but unfortunately his performance tonight matches most of what I hear usually from Roma fans that he just doesn't seem to fit their team. Slavia also have a chance to advance tomorrow, which it would salvage a mediocre European season to have two teams make it to spring.
Dynamo 0 - 1 Jablonec Jablonec, finally build a lead and hold it giving a nice little coefficient boost on their way out. They'll have to look back on this Europa League campaign as a missed opportunity as they typically played fairly well but just didn't get results. I would say its valuable experience, but they are looking likely to get raided by transfers this year.
Slavia have taken a lead, and deservedly so in their match. All they need is a point to advance as they have the tie-breaker with Copenhagen. Lot of time to go but looking good for them.
Make it 2-0 on the typical Stoch golazo, it's all one way traffic either way. Still a full half to go, but safe to say 2 teams will make it to the next round of Europa League.
Slavia will advance, which is what is most important, but even in a comfortable win their problems with goal scoring showed a bit. They should easily have 3 or 4 already. If they get a bit better at finishing, this team is equipped to go a bit further in this competition.
Prior to this week, I've been thinking of this as kind of a poor year for the league in Europe overall. Now that the dust has settled it looks a bit more like average; were one of just a few leagues outside the Top 5 to have more than one team remaining (and only the Top 5 and Portugal have more teams). Sparta's complete burn out still hurt the league (no matter how much fun it is to watch), as if they had made the groups we'd easily be holding our previous coefficient ranking and the automatic Champions League group place (= a lot of money, I think Plzen brought in something like 30 Million Euros just on prize money for their performance so far). We should still be able to finish in the top 15 which means 2 teams in Champions League qualifying though. The draw for the knockout rounds is next Monday.
Olomouc 0 - 0 Ostrava anti-climatic derby result that happened to be the leagues biggest surprise teams both for bad and good. Slovacko 1 - 0 Dukla Dukla have to be the favorites to finish last Opava 2 - 1 Mlada Boleslav Opava have a decent run going Teplice 2 - 1 Zlin Zlin started well but have been noticeably fading over the past month, they also lose their top forward to Plzen after this match so will interesting to see how their season goes from here. Pribram 1 - 1 Sparta Sparta have been ready for the winter break about September
Plzen looking comfortable against Karvina, ahead 2 - 0 early in the 2nd half. Last match before winter break will be Jablonec - Slavia tomorrow.
Europa League Round of 32 Draws Slavia vs KRC Genk Plzen vs Dinamo Zagreb On paper they got two of the weaker teams they could have drawn as unseeded teams, although Zagreb were fairly dominate in their group. Still both very much could, and in Slavia's case should, advance.
Edit: Final result before the winter break FT Jablonec 0 - 2 Slavia I'll probably be posting some thoughts on the season so far over the break, although I will need to see how the transfer market plays out before making any 2nd half predictions.
Table going into winter break In past years this would be about the midway point, but we are actually closer to 2/3 of the way through the main season before teams will be broken out into different groups.
Transfer season is still just getting started, but in terms of clubs making moves the biggest of the past few days is that Rosicky has officially been named sporting director for Sparta. This was quite expected as its been talked about for months now; it also remains to be seen how much actual authority he has as their owner is quite meddlesome. This also continues a recent trend of prominent former players coming back to take front office positions at their former clubs. The most successful so far are Grygera, who has been at Zlin a since 2015, and Jankulovski, who took over earlier this year at Banik and was an important architect of their successful summer recruitment.
Transfer updates: Alex Kral to Slavia is being reported as complete, a potentially big signing at a position where they actually need an additional quality player (Ngadeu and Deli are good, but their rotating 3rd choice options were all quite average at the continental level) and this will give one of our best young defenders get a European showcase. Sparta have signed Martin Hasek from Bohemians, a solid signing. There is still a lot of activity expected from Sparta, but much of it will still depend on who leaves. Plzen seem fairly content with their 3 moves (Beauguel, Kayamba, and Pacinda), haven't seen any additional rumors. They may promote a few youth players though.
Ostrava have signed Opava's captain and top goal scorer Nemanja Kuzmanovic, will add some creativity to Banik's attack. They are still hoping to sign a few striker options this winter as well. Rough window for Opava.
