I know Barcelona we’re playing an experimental line up but they really are a shadow of the team from 4+ years ago..

I agree that Kane looks a bit gassed but this Christmas stretch isn’t going to help him. He’s still doing well but he’s not scoring as much as he used to. I think he needs a couple of weeks off.

Winks looked good and so did KWP

There'll be a winter break this season won't there? Should do him some good.

Am I the only one that doesn't see it with Winks . I don't get what he offers . His passing is average, although he can drive with the ball through midfield occasionally . He offers no goal threat.

Why is this guy playing for Watford. He should be playing for one of the big clubs in the premier league . As a man united fan he is the type of player we are crying out for .

England has more than enough midfielders who can score goals, not needed at all especially when it doesn't really work at international level

Seriously have you see the video i have posted of Hughes he is in a different class to Winks . Jamie Redknapp said a few years ago that Hughes is an english ozil . He has so much more vision and technique than Winks .

Right now Hughes plays on the right side of midfield while Winks plays in deep midfield. I'm all for turning attacking midfielders into central midfielders but if Southgate wanted to do that, which he won't, there probably would be more urgent options than Hughes. I like Hughes but he needs to play in central midfield and that doesn't look like an option for his manager right now.

"An English Ozil" - would you pick Ozil to play as the 2nd midfielder of a 3, with both defensive and attacking responsibilities? You're arguing that Leo Messi is a better footballer than Nicolas Otamendi, therefore Argentina should pick him at centre back.

Hughes, even allowing for taking his preferred position in the centre, is up against Dele Alli, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, James Maddison, Adam Lallana, Jesse Lingard.

The problem for Hughes will always be his lack of mobility. He just doesn't cover the ground well enough for someone like Southgate to play him.

He does look rather one pace.

    Random thought.

I remembered how we had terrible defensive organization under Roy in certain matches. Particulary when we played Italy in 2012 and 2014 when Pirlo carved us open and did nothing to stop him. Southgate is a much better game planner than Roy ever was for England based on the Spain away game.

That is as extreme as saying that he should play no. 10 for England ahead of everyone else. Hughes is still a fantastic prospect, but should play for a team where his manager trusts him to play in the middle. Also he should hurt the opponents more, with more goals and assists.

He’s got no pace and that makes a huge difference in an elite cm for recovery

He doesn’t drive the ball forward and has been pushed to rm for a reason

He is a decent prospect but not close to a world
    Beater

Can’t see him in the England set up any time soon

I have seen him live over ten times in recent years at derby and he was inconsistent

He's 24 before the season ends. He is not a prospect.

Watching the Chelsea match from the other night. What are people’s thoughts on Barkley vs RLC?

A few years ago I was raving about Barkley but I just think he'll be remembered as a decent player who never realised his initial potential ..

I prefer Barkley at least as a number 10. He's better technically, more comfortable in tight spaces and much better long range passing. Really looked sharp for England lately

Krud ... there must be a link to England .. I'll fire him a tweet ... maybe he once ate some Kendall Mintcake or a Chorley cake ?

That's how the system seemingly works ... I see Italy have adopted Jorginho ...

    " well know " ??

What was the need for that insinuation?

I had no idea or I wouldn't have made that silly little joke ..
