Lukaku was dire. He also had Mata and Pereira flanking him, with Valencia and Rojo following up. I don't know how we can expect players to keep motivated when we don't have a hope in hell ourselves. Money only counts for so much, and we don't have to play in this shit while our careers and aspirations are publicly squandered.
We need to (and likely will) play Rashford - Lukaku - Lingard as our front three against Liverpool. Rashford and Lingard provide build up/link up for each other + Lukaku. They also provide pressing that none of our other wingers provide. I don't think Paul did enough today to justify an inclusion in the eleven on Sunday.
No surprises indeed. The bit re players who don't play often (and why) was so predictable also. Typical Mourinho...
The fact that matic is the one who was rested for this game speaks volumes and tells you all you need to know. Pogba Fred and Pereira is good but they were saddled with Selene in the same midfield. Positive things are being hampered with corresponding poor decisions. This is why I said before the game Pogba is being set up to fail. Perirra may have made a couple mistakes but he had some nice touches as well and pogba's dink pass for the mata chance was sublime
Mou sets Matic with all the protection he needs, but when he puts these midfielders he sets up to fail to show that Matic is needed. We had no width to our game. Valencia had a terrible game. 3 years on I am still asking what is our philosophy or way of play, I still do not know. What is Mourinho trying to accomplish on the field?
How do you explain/justify Lukaku playing, despite having been consistently poor for months now, while Pogba does not, except for your clear bias towards/against the latter? It would make far more sense to me and would actually be inclined to give your opinion a second thought, if you did not deliberately single Pogs out? Pogba should start for me, but let's say for a moment that his current form keeps him out, then the same applies to the likes of Lukaku and especially Matic (a decent performance vs Fulham, does not erase all the previous bad ones from this season). But if Pogba does not start to keep the midfield of Matic, Herrera and LingardLingard (which I can tolerate for this game), the front 3 I'd want to see this weekend would still be: Martial, Rashford and Mata. If Martial is not fit, then and only then should Lukaku be considered. And even then, based on their most recent showings, if we must play a big guy uptop, I might consider Fellaini over Lukaku, for this game. Just can't see Lukaku not being swallowed by van Dijk and Lovren. But the reason Pogba is in my team vs Pool, is because for all his inconsistency and at times lax behavior on the pitch, he is the one guy we have in midfield who is likely to produce the moments of class needed in a big game like the one against Pool.
Believe it or not. I forgot about it. That's how irrelevant we are. Did I say we were going to make it or not make it?
