I'm not sure what you're looking at, because there's a round of 16. Schedule here. Our R16 will hopefully be match 41, which is the winner of Group F v 2B. The winner of match 41 plays the winner of match 40 in the QF. Match 40 is the winner of Group A (presumably France) v 3rd place group of CDE.
There is no real group of Death with the expanded field and four 3rd place teams advancing. But groups C and D look the toughest overall. Maybe even throw Group A in there too with Nigeria as toughest from the 4th pot and Norway having a high ceiling if they get their act together.
Yes. If nothing very suprisning happens we alreday know the conditions for Group F's 3:rd round. USA wins the group if they beat or draw Sweden, second if the lose.* Sweden wins the group if they beat USA, second otherwise.* The winner of Thailand and Chile get the third spot and a fair chanse to advancement, in a draw it hardly matter who gets third because they are almost certainly out of the torunament. * I have USA as a heavy favorite to score up a better goaldifference against Thailand and Chile.
I think the group winners/runners up schedule is backwards...please someone double check and confirm.
I'm looking at the draw bracket on Wiki. It shows the winners of Group A and Group F on opposite sides of the draw.
"Do you miss playing football?" Aya Miyama: "No." ::awkward silence:: WELP that's all we have for today folks!
The schedule I linked to that's from the FIFA website is definitely different then. (And I'm also noticing that there's some confusion with posters on twitter, too.) Which one is right?
You would think FIFA as the official site should be the correct version. But oddly I'm not 100% secure in that for some reason.
Apparently this one is right: Seeing a lot of confusion out there on paths to the final...and conflicting documents on FIFA's site sure make it easy to get confused. This is the updated version printed yesterday, which fixed a previous error:https://t.co/wkQQGgaP3q— Jeff Kassouf (@JeffKassouf) December 8, 2018 In which case, US and France can indeed meet in the QF.
Thankfully for us, once France goes into the knock-out stages, they only know how to lose. Whatever Germany's status this cycle, I still have PTSD whenever we get them more than any other team so I'm glad that's not happening.
Can we get the accurate schedule in bracket form? It's easier on the brain. Well on my brain in any case.
I was looking at FIFA's website... https://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/matches/#knockoutphase I didn't realize they had an error and put out an update (but didn't take down the erroneous version posted above)... https://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/news/match-schedule-updated-version
This revised schedule is worse for USA, but definitely makes more sense. The erroneous bracket had 4 of the 6 group winners in the same half of the bracket.
Would it be too obvious if we intentionally blew our 3rd match to get second place and avoid France then?
If the USWNT is actually the best team in the world other teams should be looking to avoid us not the other way around. Besides in a certain respect this is the best possible draw for us. Because we are able to avoid the Swedes in the knockout stages until the final.
What's absurd is that a journalist had to point out FIFA's errors to them: OK, a (pretty absurd) update from FIFA: They messed up. The original schedule (https://t.co/uViq5EEuOu) was incorrect. They didn’t realize until I asked them about the imbalance. So the answer is that there’s no imbalance. Updated schedule: https://t.co/uAc3C2ITbR— Henry Bushnell (@HenryBushnell) December 7, 2018
And with the correct schedule, the likely knockout rounds: 1071472337625800706 is not a valid tweet id
Well, she never officialy announced that, but de facto she did since 2016. This could actually be the first time she spelled it out (at least on international media).
