Shocking that Midfield Press would extol the virtues of the non-USL bid.

They are pretty one-sided bias aren’t they?

That’s the only kind of bias there is, isn’t it? ;)

State and city leaders will move ahead with a plan to redevelop the badly aging Dillon Stadium, with a goal of gaining approval from government agencies by February and completing the facility by March 2019. But this time, instead of allowing the soccer team’s owners to oversee construction efforts, the Capital Region Development Authority will manage the project. As much as $7 million in public funds would be committed to the enterprise. A new soccer team, backed by the United Soccer League, is expected to begin playing at the Colt Park stadium in spring 2019.

Since NASL to Hartford isn’t happening, can we put this thread out of its misery?

    +1

It’ll be academic in a week or two when the court puts NASL out of its misery at long last.

This thread needs to move to the USL forum and be re-titled.

And while we're at it, the @BigSoccer mods needs to clean up a lot of the lower division threads. All the NASL teams that moved to USL need to be on that board and all the expansion teams that are now clubs need to be moved from USL expansion to the main USL board!

somebody put in a request last week to at least move both Indy and NC over to the USL...probably not a top priority, but I suspect it will eventually get done.

The NASL sure gave it a college try, didn’t they?

Hartford City was going to be one of those NPSL teams that were going to be on scholarship in the NASL that the cartel was so afraid of, presumably.

With the USL grabbing the best true stadium solution, Hartford City is going to continue to be what it is.

Will be interested to see how Hartford does as USL team.
I had actually thought if MLS had gone to 32 teams at some point, this should have been a market to look at.
NO NBA-NHL-NFL-MLB in Hartford and sitting in between 2 MLS teams in NY, 1 MLS team in Boston area and heck, even include Montreal to the north, Hartford would have some good geographical rivals for traveling fans.

Something really was missing from the USL's bid for Dillon...

    https://www.courant.com/politics/go...-dillon-stadium-complaint-20181120-story.html

"A total of $47,500 in campaign contributions were made in recent months by Hartford Sports Group (HSG) lead partner Bruce Mandell, his wife and their college freshman daughter — and now questions have been raised about the legality of those donations, which went to the state Republican Party and its unsuccessful gubernatorial nominee, Bob Stefanowski.

The questions loom as the latest complication in a $14 million, mostly state-funded project to rebuild and revive Hartford’s long-dormant Dillon Stadium in Colt Park. Dillon is slated to become the home of a new United Soccer League expansion team, Hartford Athletic, which Mandell and his partners at HSG are forming with the intention of starting its season of play in the spring."

I loved the prawns on Twitter last week when that story broke who suddenly developed amnesia about the shady investors who were to own the NASL's Hartford entry not that long ago.

What a long, strange trip it’s been for professional soccer in Hartford...
