I am genuinely curious to find out more about those republican values, specially after a couple of years of being part of the Trump cult.

I guess those are part and parcels of the republican "values" and beliefs, right?

C'mon, man. It goes way beyond "embarrassing" with his shady AF financial dealings, his corrupt cabinet, disregard for the rule of law, support of world dictators/never standing up for American values and not even believing his own intelligence community. There's no way in hell avg. non-Trump-sucking Republicans signed up for this kind of "change"

Why should we pay for the wall? Trump didn’t run on building a wall, he ran on Mexico paying for the wall.

Not trying to pick a fight with you, but me and other supporters of the President don't agree with any of what you just said. I stated pretty clearly my issues with him, but being a politician on the take who is out to screw America isn't what we see in him at all.

By the way, I always hear that statement from the media on Left about Trump: "A threat to Democracy" or Trump shows "disregard for the rule of law", but it's just a broad statement and they never go into detail. What laws are he breaking? How is he threatening Democracy? We just had an election where the Democrats showed up and took back the House. Seems like Democracy is working the way it should be...

    His attacking reporters.
His banning (attempt) of Acosta because Acosta would not be quite and asked questions he didn't want to have asked.

This is very traditional authoritarianism behavior.

Dude, I am willing to give it a shot, but if you can't accept facts for what they are, it will become an exercise of futility.
Some attacks on the democratic process(and democracy)
    - Attacks on the free press (mentioned above and public...just see his tweets)
    - Trying to have the DOJ prosecute his political opponents.
    - Repeatedly calling election process and results fraudulent (specially when his candidates are not winning), thus undermining the system.
    - Attacking the courts and the Judiciary.
    - Support for dictators & strong men and attempt to destabilize liberal democracies.
Those are the easiest ones....We have numerous other examples.

You honestly think using his First Amendment right is threatening Democracy? If he wants to call out reporters for lying about him, good for him. Don't see anything illegal about that.

You don't think Acosta was acting inappropriately? Was it 3 or 4 questions he insisted on asking? What other reporter insists on getting that many questions to ask? Point is CNN wasn't banned, just one of their reporters obviously trying to grandstand, was.

Acosta can be persistent. But that's his job. Our previously most corrupt president hated Dan Rather and others from those "goddamn, East Coast, liberal Jew newspapers!"

Man, if you all think Trump calling reporters Fake News, and trying to pull the White House press pass from one obnoxiously over the top reporter is threatening Democracy, I can only imagine how you would have reacted if he did this:

"Federal investigators secretly seized two months of phone records for reporters and editors of The Associated Press in what the news organization said Monday was a “serious interference with A.P.’s constitutional rights to gather and report the news.”

The A.P. said that the Justice Department informed it on Friday that law enforcement officials had obtained the records for more than 20 telephone lines of its offices and journalists, including their home phones and cellphones. It said the records were seized without notice sometime this year."

That was bad. I don't think you'd find anyone defending the Obama administration on that. Sure, you can say his supporters were slow to call him out on it (and even negligent for NOT calling him out), but I didn't see anyone defending it.

Now, what lies was Acosta telling about Trump?

    1) Nothing undemocratic about treating the Press the same way they treat him.
    2) The DOJ has done no such thing so he didn't force anyone to do anything.
    3) Democrats are undermining democracy too then - see Hillary 2 years ago, Stacy Abrams now...
    4) Anyone being honest with themselves knows what he said about the Ninth District Court was spot on. Besides, why else did the Dems freak out over Kavanaugh if judges aren't political?
    5) Trump wants to be the guy to work out deals with Putin and Rocket Man. I doubt insulting both of them would help with negotiations, so he compliments them instead, big deal. Probably just part of the "Art of the Deal" I guess. If you call destabilizing liberal democracies - forcing them to work out fair trade deals with us and pay their share with NATO....then ok I am fine with that.

Ask yourself why they "freaked out" over Kavanaugh compared to the treatment of Trump's first judge, Gorsuch.

OUCH. That one hurts. Be careful, some people actually read your posts.

Hint: "Rocket Man" was an insult.

    Does anyone have an advil?

    Let's break them down:

    - shady AF financial dealings. Every candidate but Trump for 50 years has released their tax returns. He has paid out numerous settlements, most recently for his scam university. I win.

    - corrupt cabinet. Little Napoleons who waste taxpayer money left & right. DeVos, Zinke, Pruitt, Mnuch, Sleepy Ben Carson. Even Melania can spend $100K a day on a foreign trip. I win.

    - disregard rule of law. Just this week he's lied about asylum seekers at the border. His "muslim ban" was shot down. He's violated the emoluments clause from Day 1. I win.

    - world dictators/standing up for our values. Loves socipathic murderer Kim. Has bromances with Putey & Filipino pres. Showed true colors when put profits ( "hundreds of billions in arms sales to S.A.!") over a journalist's life. I win.

    - not believing intelligence community. From Russian hacking to Khashoggi murder. "It could've been anyone. A 400 lb guy in his basement" I win.

This is just stuff off the top of my head, mind you. Democrats will dig much deeper in 2019.

Perhaps the mods are taking the holiday weekend off. Or perhaps they decided that he's less bad than Vfish.

Just to make a few notes on some of these points:

    1. Trump is the president. This means he is the government referenced in the first amendment. He can't simply operate however he chooses in regards to them.

And, let's be clear, he doesn't treat them as they treat him. He's far worse because he simply lies about and expects deference from the media, whereas the media is merely critical of him, with justification.

    2. Trump seeing the government responsibility as protecting and serving him, personally, is a major issue and distuption in the system.

    4. The 9th circuit is a right wing rallying cry with little merit. Plus, if one doesn't become unnerved with the incessant Trump critiques on the courts when they don't allow him to do his half assed, Stephen Miller-led initiatives, then you really aren't a supporter of American-style republicanism and government.

Yes, very likely our Canadian mod is taking the weekend off. I stand corrected.

All I'm saying is maybe don't descend on the guy like a pack of wild animals. Maybe letting him bury himself with his own rope is the best policy.

Fake news and the like is totally okay by me. But "Enemy of the People" rhetoric is flat-out dangerous, and ought to be apologized for and repented of.

Because they were trying to run out the clock and delay until the midterms.

Fair point although he did call him Rocket Man during the stage where he was threatening him with military power. After those tensions cooled off and the negotiations began, he forgot all about calling him that nickname.

I'd say OK maybe if he was a Never Trumper Republican who agreed with his economic moves. But we all have laundry lists of Trump atrocities and he says "our realities are just different." We've been down this road before. It's like trying to talk sense to the neighborhood drunk.
