It will be interesting to see which other two teams we get drawn with this time (since we know Sweden is a given).

Draw is four pots with 6 seeded teams. FIFA has indicated seeding would be done based on Coca-cola ranking which come out Dec 7 tho in Canada they pushed Brazil into the seeded pot to spread the seeding more evenly between the confeds.
Current rankings would make the seeded teams
    France (host) #4
    US #1
    Germany #2
    England #3
    Canada #5
    Australia #6

The new rankings could see Japan or Brazil overtake Australia for the last ranked spot. A move similar to 2015 to add another confed to the 1st pot might see Canada lose it's seeded spot.

Likely pots...if there r 3 UEFA teams in Pot 1 then pot 2 is likely the remaining 6 UEFA teams. If the above seeding holds u might see CONMEBOL & CAF make up one for remaining pots with the final pot consisting of AFC, OFC and Jamaica. If so the potential group of death would be seeded team in the same group with Brazil #8, Japan #7 & Sweden #9. Maybe to avoid that they put CONMEBOL & AFC in one pot and put the last AFC qualifier (Thailand) in the final pot.

Would you rather face them in pool play or the knockout round?

That question sort of answers itself given recent history. Getting flustered by Sweden in pool play has been a bit of a good luck charm.

From what I've seen, and according to what the Organizing Committee released at the beginning of October, all pots (not just Pot 1) will be according to ranking.

    From FIFA website:
    • The teams will be allocated to pots according to the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking to be released on 7 December 2018.
    • There will be four pots of six teams, which will be drawn into six groups of four teams. No two teams from the same confederation shall be drawn into the same group, with the exception of the European teams, represented by nine slots.
    • Each group must have at least one, but no more than two, European teams drawn into it: thus, three out of the six groups will have two European teams.
Also there has already been some discussion in this thread over in Women's International.

FIFA threw up a FIFA draw generator and they do use ranking there. This is an improvement over the what has been the traditional method if they stick to it and the final ranking aren't fudged a bit to help things along.

So if the rankings don't significantly change

Pot1 France, US, Germany, England, Canada, Australia

Pot2 Japan, Brazil, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain, Norway

Pot3 South Korea, China, Italy, Scotland, Thailand, NZ if they win OFC or Argentina

Pot4 Nigeria, South Africa, Chile, Jamaica, Fiji if they win OFC or Argentina, Cameroon or Mali

Aaaaaaaaaah yes, it is all about Pot Position or PP (copyright pending)
Given that the previous rankings were September 28, 2018 and all significant qualifying was concluded except US & Canada (no change) in October, I can't see much changing in the top 2 pots.
I am intrigued by the 6-7 Australia-Japan cut off. Previous rankings "include" Japan winning their region (vs. Australia) and their disappointing ToN results. Those two teams could literally have USA or Norway as their "next" team in their pool.
But don't fret, it's important to remember that FIFA is comprised of Futbol Yahwehs who all test out at super-mensa levels.:D

I'm not sure that FIFA would find your questioning of their presentation of a glittering line-up of draw participants "in line with the tournament’s theme of light and luminosity."

Carli Lloyd is the trophy bearer and also will be at the media pre-draw information session the day before the draw.

    thnx.

is that something that we should have known?

as a visitor to the page seeking information, it was not clear why carli's pic was there and steffi's wasn't.

The trophy bearer news is on the FIFA website, the pre-draw media info came to me via the FIFA media emails.

It was on the page by the time I accessed it? As for Steffi not being there, there were only 8 people pictured out of a dozen named.

yes. noticed that the trophy bearer info is there now, making sense of carli’s picture.

…but at the time i saw the page, there was no mention of a trophy bearer, and a picture was there of somebody who was not named & didn’t seem to belong.

anyway, shlj explained and, more importantly, the reason for lloyd’s picture appears in the text.

    all good.

As long as we don't draw Sweden or Nigeria in the group stage, I'll be happy. It's become a running joke at this point.

What do people think about the quality of this field, from a competitive point of view? Compared to 2015.

Ecuador and Ivory Coast were pretty bad in 2015. Seems to me Argentina and South Africa are an upgrade, it's harder to see them getting blown out by scores of 10-0, 10-1. But many people would consider Jamaica worse than Mexico or Costa Rica, even if they finished higher in CONCACAF qualifying.

These are the dates, times, locations and Pool Opponents we will have depending on which Group we draw into:

Pot assignments were revealed a few hours ago on FIFA website:

    Pot 1

    France
    USA
    Germany
    England
    Canada
    Australia

    Pot 2

    Netherlands
    Japan
    Sweden
    Brazil
    Spain
    Norway

    Pot 3

    South Korea
    China
    Italy
    New Zealand
    Scotland
    Thailand

    Pot 4

    Argentina
    Chile
    Nigeria
    Cameroon
    South Africa
    Jamaica

Now someone explain to me what this means going forward to tomorrow’s draw. Does pot 1 act like a number 1 seeding with each team “ leading” a different group and the rest of the pots randomly filtering their teams in those groups?

IME, the French railway network is great (although tickets are not necessarily cheap). There are also buses that run between cities, which usually take longer but are cheaper. Also most towns of any size have public local transport. What I don't know for each city is how the public local transport would be in getting to each stadium. If you're really interested, ask in the Women's International forum where there are some French posters.

Right. And no teams from the same confederation can be drawn into the same group (with the exception of UEFA countries, in which case, there must be at least one but no more than 2 UEFA countries in each group).
