People will show up to be entertained even if there's nothing to play for. Closed leagues in England and Germany for instance survived for decades. I think the Isthmian League in England was the last to join the pyramid.
Crowley actually confirms his team couldn't play professionally any time soon. He's aware of the limitations of his market. I don't think he's on the pro/rel bandwagon thinking the Stockade will be a D1 club in our lifetimes.
Sorry if I implied that, I didn't mean to. I meant that Crowley's on the pro/rel bandwagon because he believes in it, not because it would benefit his team in any way whatsoever.
IIRC, he said he was part of the suit so that his team could have the option to be promoted if it was feasible.
He'd need a stadium that can hold more than 1,500. There's a stadium in Poughkeepsie, about 25 minutes drive away, that holds 5,000.
Doesn't he have a tech background? He reminds me of the owner of San Francisco. Everything is about hyping "new way of doing things" and about "disruption". And then after a year or two of it not working, you go hype something else.
Sure, but I think he understands they might go from, say, D4 to D3. He's under no illusions that his town can support a D1 club unless they get incredibly lucky. And he's not interested in sinking a ton of money into it like some Russian or Qatari oligarch.
Has this series of tweets already been posted? NASL submitted its response to USSF's Motion to Compel discovery in the antitrust lawsuit. Unlike USSF's Motion, NASL offers no shocking revelations. There is, instead, a dispute over the meaning of the judge's Order. pic.twitter.com/8mfgFnDgea— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) November 16, 2018
I've just bought a house (subject to inspection) 15 minutes from Dietz Stadium, so I'll go have a chat.
Welcome to the neighborhood! Kingston's a hidden gem. Tons of arts and music and culture. First round's on me.
Still no end in slight. A fitting end to 2018: Parties filed a joint discovery extension request in the NASL case in which they acknowledged that "it would not be reasonably possible or practicable to conclude all discovery sought by the Parties within the Original Schedule" pic.twitter.com/Y1JXthJlqU— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) January 1, 2019 After fighting bitterly over the discovery schedule in 2018 (w/ NASL wanting a much shorter period), the parties propose dates that would cutoff discovery by November 2019 pic.twitter.com/yiJxRiFo7m— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) January 1, 2019 Original discovery cutoff was April 30, 2019. The implication is that NASL no longer has any urgency to rush the process because of league scheduling imperatives (perhaps because its teams have moved on to other leagues)— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) January 1, 2019
I'm going to guess in 2026 there will be a NASL season, but it will be the third incarnation of the league and won't include any of the current league's leadership.
You mean "the third incarnation of the most renowned soccer franchise in the world, whose former players include Pele, Giorgio Chinaglia, Raul and Chris Wingert".
