    The losing streak vs. France.
Good catch on the year! It was a typo, should have read Euro 2020.

Another guy I thought played well was deRoon. So IMO the starting midfield should be:

    Wijnaldum-Frenkie-Roon

The two match commenters on the ESPN+ feed were really funny. One of them, a former Yugoslavian NT player, said that de Roon's role was to do nothing just be in the right position. I laughed at first and then realized that this was exactly right. Koeman wanted de Jong to go forward but not de Roon. de Roon seemed to always be in the right place.

  4. I think they talk about a five gamelosing streak gainst France.

  5. Yup, as I posted the inclusion of de Roon unveiled the capacity of Wijnaldum.
One often sees people/dumm coaches select and field the best individual midfielders.
These people are myopic on the point that soccer is a team sport and key is to field a trio that in combo are more than the sum of individuals.
You can field three individuals that in combo are less than the sum of the individuals in ratings.
Sometimes a lesser player makes another player play better, while the better one makes the same guy play worse.

One comment on the article said if it wasnot for the goalie it would have been 10-0:ROFLMAO:
Varane is a player for Real. If I heared it right the Germans are going to field another Real Madrid defender against us. If we do them harm too Real Madrid will be banging on the door with a ridiculous amount of money to get de Ligt.
I posted in another thread that de Ligt was going to jump over Mbappe by making him look silly in the direct confrontation for the Golden Boy Award. How true was what I said. Just look at the ratings given to Mbappe by these two French publications

France Football hasnot understood what I posted earlier about van Roon, given their rating for him:
    Cillessen 6
    Dumfries 7
    De Ligt 7
    Van Dijk 6
    Blind 6
    De Roon 5
    De Jong 8
    Wijnaldum 7
    Bergwijn 6
    Depay 8
    Babel 5

Dumfries my MOTM . The midfield of De Roon, Wijnaldum and De Jong were excellent as well as Babel and Depay . VVD and De ligt were solid . I love this new Netherlands team

Foong June Meng Wijnaldum has really benifited from playing with De Roon. It has liberated him from acting as a disruptor in midfield, that's De Roon's job now, and allowed him to make more runs toward the goal
    .

I'm glad there are people who understand what I'm talking about.

I have to say one thing though, lets not get carried away with all this. We beat a Germany who were fairly equal to us except for our deadly counter-attacks. We finished our chances, they didnt.

We also beat France who were in the 1st half also equal to Holland IMO, but in the 2nd half we were much better. France however were also missing Pogba and Martial, which few media outlets seem to remind us of btw.

So add it all up, and if we wanna keep the euphoria going we had better beat Germany at home on monday, which wont be easy. Germans will want revenge, and they will have nothing to lose since they are out already.

Lets keep both feet on the gound please

What difference would that have made? Pogba is the player to manage the counter attack of the French, but Mbappe needs space to run in the counter attack. There was no space and Pogba can't create what isnot there.
And how well are those two playing the last few weeks for their clubs? I donot recall any blistering performance of those two. For what it's worth it could also have been worse for France with those two on the pitch.
Feck the French and focus on the Germans now, as these are fired up to make a statement to their fans.
The French are bygones now and we need to do that to the Germans too. It's a pity we didnot send the clear 5-6-7-Nill message into the world, so we need to eliminate the Germans to put the French in second place. And please Koeman, spent a lot of time on shooting practice as we need to make a statement to the world.
It's time to put the fear of god in the world when they have to go on the pitch with us again.
We should put this on our orange shirt, or would that be unpolite?

You are over analyzing things way too much. Pogba would have made for a much better offensive midfield, and Martial (given his form for Man Utd recently) wouldve given France more speed on the wing when Mbappe didnt have the ball.

So yes, IMO those 2 wouldve made at least a bit of a difference.
Would it have won France the game, nobody knows

  11. Neither Pogba or Martial made ManUnited play well these weeks, so it's a stretch to think they would do for France.
Pogba cannot do anything without having the ball and that's what the Orange lads did well, keep the ball out of France possession and when they did have the ball, the room to manouvre was too thight. Pogba, like Mbappe needs space.

Well said. I think Germany will be a much more difficult test than France, all things considered... an away match against tough crowd, their desire to get revenge, the historical "rivalry", and the hunger from new players (as Germany is in the rebuilding mode as well). I read that their two fresh attackers, Sane and Gnarby, were quite impressive in the friendly match vs. Russia.

This will be a good barometer for Koeman's crew. It will be interesting to see how the game will be approached. Likely we will see the Dutch patiently sitting down and absorbing pressure, waiting for the right moments to counter. Hopefully no mental lapses in the defense after a relatively quiet walk in the park against France. I will take a hard-fought draw (which will still make Oranje through to the semi final). A win would send me over the moon.

Mpabbe on one wing, Martial on the other. That wouldve forced us to use a speedier back then we have in Blind, which we don't have.

It actually wouldve sliced our defense much more open, but thank God Blind wasnt exposed to that, because the outcome might have been different

So you would drop Griezman from the lineup? I don't think Martial would have made much of a difference. Koeman had both wingers dropping back quickly after a turnover and Blind. Both fullbacks were seldom exposed. Dumfries is not the greatest defender either.

Why not revert to a 4-3-3 with Mpabbe, Martial on the wings, and put Greaseball in the middle??

I dunno, French sure as hell couldnt have done much worse (whichever lineup they wouldve put out there)

It was quiet odd to be honest with Griezmann on Blinds flank. In the lineup it was the other way around. Griezmann on left, mbappe on right. Griezmann was consistently drifting to the middle and this was why Blinds flank was dead and he found spaces going forward.typically Deschamp uses Griezz has a flase striker behind Giroud so yeah it could have been different if martial or probga would have started.

Was also expecting Plea to come on for Giroud.this would have changed the game big time also. He has been in good form in bundasliga since moving from lille.

We don’t have better option than Blind at LB atm; it took awhile to find the 3 midfielders that work; just be patient. A weak point is that we don’t have enough depth for some positions so hopefully that can be addressed in 2 years.
I read that Koeman would like to go for a win, but at the same time he is aware of a tie is enough (not to lose), not like some other coaches that not aware of what at stake (goal diff)

All those things you just mentioned will make for a tough game (especially our rivalry).

It will make for a brave man to put $$$$ on a Dutch win, but I think we can do it!
Germany are a wounded animal right now, and we need to finish them off and euthanise them!!!!!

Switzerland made it to the semi, at the expense of Belgium. Belgium was leading 2-0 before Switzerland stormed back with five unanswered goals

    England sneaked in, Spain out.
    Portugal is in too.

Wait for Oranje to join the last four! ;)
