What do you guys think of Abila? I get what he brings to the table, but it feels like with Pavon being in his funk, the team doesn't really take full advantage of what Abila does best. Thankfully, Villa has been a revelation, but it just feels to me that we're missing creativity in the middle. This makes me lean more toward Benedetto, or Zarate, or even Tevez.
Wanchope is good at hold up play. Frankly trying to play the ball on the ground through the middle is what has gotten us in trouble against River with their high press. I see what they might be going for if he starts. Play it long and let the opponent tire themselves out trying to chase everything down, then the creative game can open up later.
Tentative date for the match is tomorrow (16:00 local time, 11:00 PST) -- however, it must be noted that similar rainfall is predicted for tomorrow as well, so that game too may be suspended.
The pitch actually drained somewhat okay after that image, so ironically they would be better off keeping the same schedule, but whatever...
We don't know what tomorrow will be like, but even after draining, I wouldn't have wanted to play on that pitch today. That field would have been seriously jacked up.
Let it keep raining. We need to give riBer a sporting chance. Beating them without Ponzio and Scocco wouldn't be fair. I'd rather see Boca beat them at full strength.
Say anything about this side, say that they know to score ugly when things are not going well. Jarra is having himself a nightmare. Sucks for Pavon, but his injury may be good for Boca in this match.
Has Benedetto accumulated a half of play yet in this Copa? It's one of the more amazing things I've experienced in futbol.
Damn you, that's the one Benedetto doesn't put away? Fair result in the end, but disappointed in the performance.
Armani did what he had to in order to make that finish as difficult as possible, credit to him. Maybe we didn't deserve to win it outright, but frustrating when you consider there was a total gift goal immediately after taking the first lead. Would've been interesting to see what would have happened if RiBer had to chase it longer than that. Maybe we get to 2-0 before they get one considering Pipa's impact.
I understand your sentiment. I’ve been in a similar spot a few years back. I didn’t fault our players from not coming out for the second half of the Copa Sudamericana Final. As a person from the outside, I’d want this game to be played.
