I was just messing with you, I honestly think people would not care and I am of the school of "if you do not want to know a score of any match stay 100% off the internet"
Not necessarily the right assumption. I like to watch the days highlights without knowing the results. For that reason I've been avoiding the "Other Teams" thread today, where that stuff is supposed to be discussed openly. As for the "[R]" designation, it isn't used much any more, so I think (not) posting results is down to common sense, common courtesy. Especially within 24hrs of the result. IMHO.
Ya, he did. At the time it seemed like a play to preserve value for a sale after his loan if Emery didn’t rate him. If he didn’t sign then he’d have been on his final year I think after the loan was over. It looks to be going so poorly though that move may backfire. Fulham is doing so badly that I doubt the manager lasts the season and maybe the replacement will get more out of chambers, who knows. I think AW did stall his development in that his defensive skills seemed to not improve at all. He is pretty good on the ball, better weaker foot than most, not terrible in the air. but he gets turned and roasted like a rotisserie chicken. While no amount of coaching will make him quicker, there are many tactics for dealing with tricky and pacey players that can be coached. We’ve seen a similar stall from mustafi under AW and even a regression. His problem is the boneheaded moments—the pointless fouls, the improper positioning, the inaccurate reading of the ball flight, the stopping play when he thinks he’s been fouled and letting his mark go by him, the going to ground when he doesn’t need to, the poor defensive line, etc. These are things that can be coached in theory if the player is receptive. Maybe mustafi wasn’t receptive to coaching, but a series of defenders almost none of which improved under AW leads me to suspect a lack of focus on defensive coaching.
I've been wondering for a while, what is Steve Bould's responsibility in all of this? He's still the defensive coach and while he may no have had much to say in game tactics under Wenger, he would be the one talking to defenders about defensive techniques, i.e. how to deal wth tricky pacey players.
Wondering the same thing myself. It’s pure speculation, but I think the club kept him so Emery would have someone who knew the league, opposition grounds, etc. to help Emery. Not sure how long he will stay, but maybe he had been given more responsibility and maybe he had some input on chambers going out. Who knows really. Let’s just hope chambers, mustafi, holding, etc can develop under the new regime better than under the past.
That's been my assumption. They really wanted one senior, ENGLISH guy for continuity, transition, etc. But I agree with the previous query: What the hell is Bouldy responsible for? Or perhaps better stated: what has he contributed to our tactics or player development? I've seen so little written about his role, that he's been a head-scratcher.
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ontracts-aaron-ramsey-danny-welbeck-petr-cech Raúl Sanllehí saying that he doesn't believe in allowing a players contract get to last year.
Also some claims of interest in adding Juan Mata on a free. Mata played for Emery for a few years at Valencia.
I've seen those same links, but they've all seemed highly speculative. The only way I see Mata coming is if Ramsey leaves on a free transfer, and some of the younger midfielders don't develop as we expect this season (particularly Guenduzzi and Smith Rowe). So I guess it's possible, but a lot would need to happen first. I love Ramsey, but I do think it's looking more unlikely that he leaves on a free this summer or is sold in January if we can find a suitable suitor. Guenduzzi and Smith Rowe both look like good prospects, and I'd like to see them both get more minutes than giving them to Mata along with his higher wages.
Offer? Insult you mean. That's about what they payed themselves. You better start reading serious news media.
According to sky , arsenal will not offer Ramsey a new deal - allowing player to leave for free in summer. This is just shambolic and incompetent. Not a good sign on the management.
He had plenty of time and this is good for the club. If Ramsey truly wanted to stay he misjudged the situation or his agent did. We will be more than fine.
Sometimes you just have to take the L, and move on with your life. I would be disappointed if after Sanchez and Ozil the club hadn't learned anything. Miki hasn't been terrible for us, but I'm still sure I would have rather just sold Sanchez during the summer. A lot of our personnel situation has to do with Wenger's old man compulsion to hold on to whatever he has.
I think we often assume that young players have a complete football education and that top Clubs will know how to bring their development on - but this is not always the case An interesting aspect of Pep Confidential detailing Pep's first year was that Boateng did not understand how to play zonal systems properly. He was just playing instinctively. So one could put that down to a bad education at Hertha/HSV and then no real finishing at Man City. But he was such a physical and instinctive player he got away with this. Yet he was not the only one. Apparently Javi Martinez also didn't understand zonal very well. This is before we even get into the kind of spacing and particular movement Pep wants. Now you look at a guy like Stones who was a laughing stock - yet now looks every inch the cornerstone of a ball playing defence for club and country. It was obvious for a while that Arsenal lacked institutional knowledge on some modern basics like spacing etc. Rene Maric - the young coaching darling - even critiqued Ozil's spacing - yet clearly Ozil is a top player, with great vision - so how can this be? To my mind, a large part of the issues we see with the defensive players was institutional - not just that the players are not good enough.
That has always been an English thing till recently If u look at most of the best English talent in recent years, they have been instinctive players that rely on athleticism or stamina (gerrard/Rooney) with their lack of system knowledge showing at international tournaments
Looks like Ramsey is off to Bayern I suspect this puts to bed the idea that Arsenal simply withdrew their deal. Looks like there was competition where Arsenal were at a disadvantage. Either in effect pay an amortised transfer fee over 5 years on top of wage bump to retain their own player, or let him walk to another big dog who can leverage the part saving on the transfer fee for a top tier midfielder.
