Repped for the score prediction. As for the scoring groove, luckily Auba came in at 60' because Laca wasn't exactly doing his share. But honestly our goals were more down to Ozil than anything else.
Unbelievable second half. The attack was integrated to the defending, the lads moved though the gear and always seemed to move as one, never really out of position, always winning the second balls, really winning the second balls, never lingering with the ball, just great movement all around
I'll be damned. Arsenal look like Arsenal again, finally, after all these years. Remember the days when folks used to argue whether Barca or Arsenal were the best passing team?
Nope. Iwobi's was nice but not as much of a team goal. Ramsey's goal at Fulham last time, and Auba's 2nd goal today are super duper team-passing goals. IMHO.
No...this one: We’ve got Özil Mesut Özil I just don’t think you understand He’s Arséne Wenger’s man He’s better than Zidane We’ve got Mesut Özil
Amazingly, we’ve already created a rival to that goal we scored against Fulham for goal of the season.
Both are really good IMO - I thought today's was better b/c it was more in control. But frankly, today's goal was just basic 4-2-3-1 passing, except that Ozil's touch and movement annihilated Leicester's defense. Ozil basically did what Ramsey does, except he did it a lot better than Ramsey does.
I'm still partial to Iwobi's goal against Chelsea: the sequence was a lot longer (took like a minute), and Miki basically went all the way to the left of the formation (dragged Jorginho out of position), and then got behind Alonso to create a goal. It's really, really good team play - it doesn't have the same pace behind it, but it's the movement and passing is really good.
There's something about fast-break pace that makes a goal absolutely exhilarating. So I'm gonna stick to my position. But find me a clip of the complete build-up for Iwobi's goal at Chelsea, and I'll watch it. All I could find before when I looked it up was the last 4 passes or so.
This goal was clean on every front, rare to see a jumping back-heel and a successful dummy in the same sequence. I hope Ozil gets some NT games again, if only because that would mean the world is in a better place.

So understat's XG still had us slightly outperforming expected goals? Of the 3 goals we scored, only the Özil goal was more than a sitter. And it rates Laca's XG on his sitter as a .14? Seriously?
Yup. That's was one very patient, measured build-up. Impressive, and probably really demoralizing for the opposition. But I still favor the urgency and ruthlessness of those other 2 fast-break team goals. To each his own.
.14 is a well above an average chance, but yeah it seems way low for that one. I’d have guessed .3 or above. Odd. But scoring goals is really hard. Özil’s was an otherworldly finish. We scored 3 on 4 great chances plus a few other decent ones. Wouldn’t shock me at all if xG was 2-2.5 from this game. Edit: And now I’ve looked at understat for this match. They have us at 2.92. Seems pretty accurate to me.
Also, can I just say for a minute... Outperforming xG is a good thing for a team. It means you’re better than the shot locations and circumstances would predict. Why does it always have to descend into an argument?
I'm going to be selfish and hope he leaves the German National Team in their current predicament, which also allows him to be rested for Arsenal.
I can't see him going back to the NT -- and hope he doesn't. Too many egos in the way. On the plus side, I enjoy watching Arsenal again.
