I'm thinking who did the Reps nominate who couldn't come within striking distance of Menendez, some right-wing wacko? They were close, a pharma executive. It's good that it is not only the democrats who shoot themselves in the foot.
Well, this went viral and they've raised $272k and counting for the first 8 candidates. So they decided to lay out their next 8 candidates: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/givesmart2?amount=80 In just a few hours they've already raised $58k. This story from the Intercept talks about how these guys are changing races. It's pretty impressive: https://theintercept.com/2018/10/17/data-for-progress-state-legislative-races-democrats/
Menendez would have been hard to beat in a blue state like NJ. He is stilling on a pile of cash as well. Now the R have picked a pharma executive so the ads against him just write themselves out.
Menendez is trash, and should have been primaried, but that's not happening in New Jersey, especially in northern Jersey where it borders New York. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeee-it, he's probably as close to a real life Clay Davis as one can find.
In some ways he is just a Republican with a D in front of his name especially when it comes to foreign policy.
True, but he votes against the Republicans nearly 75% of the time. The enemy of my enemy is my friend...
But when he votes against the Republicans on naming a post office for Gerald Ford (yes I made that up) but votes with the Republicans on sanctions on Cuba and Iran (no I didn't make that up), the importance of the votes matter.
I'm not defending him at all. I think he's trash. But we need all of the D's we can get in the Senate. Even the trash ones.
A NJ republican would have been better on those votes? Then again if a repug wins (add west Virginia), then a democratic primary would be more open in 6 years. Short term pain for perhaps long term gain.
I doubt it but certainly in the past 20 years NJ has elected Republicans at the state level who were not nut jobs. This would have been their best chance running against a Senator who escaped conviction.

This ad is too everything not to be in this thread. This is a real radio ad currently running in Arkansas in support of Republican Congressman French Hill on radio stations targeted to the African American community. I don't even have words to describe it. pic.twitter.com/vpzt1nGPlc— Ben Tribbett (@notlarrysabato) October 18, 2018
Jemele Hill touched on this. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/10/why-black-men-relate-brett-kavanaugh/572776/ Obviously both ignore the difference of a job interview vs a criminal/civil trial. The GOP add also ignores the Nixon southern estrategy that made all those white Democrats now Republicans. But republicans have been doing that for a long time.

This morning Morning Joe dusted up the usual "Democrats have no message" nonsense.....These people are simply lazy. If anyone still thinks Democrats don't have a message focus in this election -- they do, and it's health care. New analysis finds it was mentioned in 61% of Democratic House ads between mid-September and mid-October: https://t.co/776EoYEca7 pic.twitter.com/BwLQVElEKI— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) October 18, 2018
