North Carolina 2, Virginia Tech 1
German senior Nils Bruening scored a brace, the latter in the 84th minute, to keep the Tar Heels perfect in ACC play, the only undefeated team left. American freshman Vincent Jackson scored for the Hokies.

    Notre Dame 2, Louisville 1
A PK in OT of a road game against a top 10 team is a tough way to lose but that's what happened to the Cardinals. American senior Thomas Ueland scored the first Irish goal and drew the penalty kick that Scottish senior Sean MacLeod converted. Senegalese (HS in US) junior Cherif Dieye scored for Louisville.

Here are the updated records and RPI

    2. North Carolina -------------- 9-1-0 --- 4-0-0

A big win, an OK but significant win and a devastating loss in non-con play tonight.

    Virginia 3, Denver 0
American freshman Daryl Dike had a brace around a goal by American senior Simeon Okoro as the Cavaliers gave Denver its first loss of the season. English sophomore Nathaniel Crofts had a pair of assists and American redshirt sophomore Colin Shutler made one save for his seventh shutout of the season. UVa’s defense held Nathan Shinyashiki, who leads the country with 21 goals, without a shot.

Dike is the brother of former Notre Dame star Bright Dike, who played in MLS and got a couple of caps with Nigeria despite being from Oklahoma. Daryl looks like he is a better prospect; he missed the first few games with an injury suffered in preseason but he’s started the last 5 games and has three goals. The kid is very physically imposing – 6-2, 225 with thighs like tree trunks – and is a prototypical target player. Can’t imagine he’ll be in Charlottesville for long.

    Syracuse 3, Ohio State 0.
Whoah, Canada! Canadian junior Massimo Ferrin had two goals an assist and
Canadian freshman Ryan Raposo had a goal and an assist to lead the Orange to their third straight win. Canadian senior Kamal Miller led a Syracuse defense that limited Ohio State to a single shot on-goal.

Raposo now has three goals and six assists, the latter of which ties him for second in the ACC. He has quietly been one of the top freshmen in the ACC.

While beating OSU won't do much for the RPI this year, the win - their third straight - moves Cuse two games over .500 and helps them in their quest to be at least one over heading into the ACC tournament, which means they are eligible for an at-large bid. (And with a Top 10 RPI and SOS, they should get one.)

    Pittsburgh 3, Cleveland State 4.
The Panthers wasted both a great opportunity to go two games over .500 and a hat-trick by Ugandan (HS in US) sophomore Edward Kizza, who now leads the ACC with 11 goals but plays for a team that might not make the NCAA Tournament. The loss drops the Panthers RPI to 40, which is right on the bubble, and puts them at .500 for the season, meaning they'll need to go at least a game over .500 their final five games of the season or steal a couple of wins in the ACC Tournament. They are capable of doing both but a win tonight would have really helped.

Pitt finishes @ 15. Tech this Friday, then 100. Temple, @ 13. Duke, @ 58. West Virginia and versus 4. Notre Dame. Gonna be tough.

Here's the updated records and RPI.

    2. Wake Forest ----------------- 11-1-0 --- 4-1-0
    3. North Carolina -------------- 9-1-0 --- 4-0-0

The conference goes 5-0-1 in non-con games Tuesday night.

Wake Forest 4, High Point 2
American soph. Omir Fernandez had two goals (10 on the season) and an assist and American soph. Machop Chol had the game-winning goal and an assist as Wake got its offense back on track after getting just one goal the past two games.

    Duke 2, Campbell 0
American freshman Issa Rayyan first career goal was the game-winner and Italian junior Daniele Proch scored Daniele Proch scored his 10th. American soph. Will Pulisic made three saves for his second straight shutout.

    Boston College 1, Harvard 0
Swedish senior Simon Enstrom got the only goal, his 9th, to lead BC in the Battle of the Charles River (I just made that part up). American sophomore Antonio Chavez Borrelli made three saves against the wicked smaht kids to pull BC back over .500.

    NC State 2, Longwood 0
American sophomore David Loera had a goal and an assist and American senior Tanner Roberts scored the insurance goal. German soph. Leon Krapf made one save as the Pack snapped a four-game winless streak.

    Louisville 1, Georgia Southern 0
American senior Geoffrey Dee converted a penalty for the game’s only goal and American soph. Will Meyer made one save for the shutout.

North Carolina 1, Old Dominion 1
UNC celebrated being the new No. 1 in the coaches’ poll by going on the road and tying ODU. American junior Mauricio Pineda scored on the Tar Heels’ only shot on-goal.

Here are the updated records and RPI.

    2. Wake Forest ----------------- 12-1-0 --- 4-1-0

Few thoughts on this wake team as it wraps up the regular season and eventually heads into the postseason.

First, if this team wants to have a chance in playoffs, they have to do something about their defense. The goals they give up are atrocious. Raben is the only one of the 4 that actually wants to defend. Again, I question when Muuss will think about a change at the GK position. Mundet was in a terrible position on the first goal last night, and made a terrible decision on the second goal. The kid was actually shielding off a high point forward while dribbling that couldve led to another goal.

On the offensive side of the ball, this team is fantastic down the wings. Omir Fernandez is a nightmare for defenses, while the team can go 5 players deep on the wings. (including 3 freshmen) Omir is the much better offensive player between him and Lapa, and has a good chance of being the conference offensive player of the year. UVA will definitely test this offense in a couple of weeks and I hope it is a much more fun game to watch than last year's ACC tournament final.

Is there a viable alternative in goal that would be an improvement?

Muuss seems to be ride-or-die with Mundet, giving him all the minutes this year and only sitting him for one game last year. If he wanted to give the backups some experience you figure he'd have done it earlier in the season.

Andrew Pannenberg had a pretty good pedigree as a youth player but Muuss clearly trusts the international GK more.

IMO, not in goal. Maybe on defense, but options have been limited by health.

I think you're right, he seems to be ride-or-die with Mundet. He loves the fact that he is good with his feet, but in my opinion, it causes more problems than it solves. The team's biggest weakness is set pieces and a 5'10" keeper doesn't help with that.

Pannenberg stepped into a big game against Clemson last year and made some big time saves. That's all I've seen of him, but it's enough to convince me that he could step in.

I'd imagine if Mckenzie was still with the team, mundet would be less exposed and I wouldn't be griping about the GK position

IIRC, Wake gave up two set piece goals in that game with Pannenberg net.

Your memory does serve you correctly. I still came away thinking he was very solid that game.

When you see Mundet give up half of the goal at the near post last game on the first goal, not making up his mind and give away a soft second goal. Dribbling with forward on him. Just getting out jumped for Duke's first goal. Constantly going out for punches he can't get to, it makes you wonder how there isn't a backup getting any minutes. BTW I'm not taking away blame from the backs on these goals.

That's the last I'll say about him and I hope I eat my own words.

Couple of other notes, I thought Proach was very good for Duke, huge threat up top. Syracuse was very organized on defense and could make a run if they continue to gel. Not ACC, but Pineda was pretty talented for High Point.

As noted above, some big results for lower RPI'd teams tonight.

    Virginia Tech 3, Pittsburgh 1
Pitt got a first minute PK, converted by Spanish senior Javi Perez, but gave it right back with a second minute own goal. Then early in the second Pitt gave up a PK of its own, that was converted by Icelandic sophomore Jon Ingason and Spanish junior David Sanz scored 2 minutes later. The loss drops the Panthers under .500.

    Duke 3, Notre Dame 2
A seesaw battle in which both teams led ultimately went to the Blue Devils. Italian junior Daniele Proch had the game-winning goal (his 10th of the year) and an assist and American sophomore Daniel Wright and Austrian sophomore Matthias Frick also scored. Scottish senior Sean MacLeod had a goal and an assist for the Irish and American senior defender Patrick Berneski scored his sixth.

NC State 1, North Carolina 0
American sophomore David Loera scored on NC State’s only shot on-goal of the game and German sophomore Leon Krapf 5 saves. North Carolina, which lost its first ACC game of the year, has 4 goals its last 4 games, a scoring rate which likely isn’t gonna get it done in the postseason (unless you’re Stanford).

    Syracuse 2, Louisville 2
Canadian sophomore Tajon Buchannan had a brace to stake Syracuse to a two-goal lead on the road. But American senior Tate Schmitt got one back before halftime and Scottish senior Adam Wilson converted a second half penalty kick.

    Virginia 4, Clemson 1
Three Virginia freshman scored and the game-winner came on a sweet free kick by German junior Afamefuma scored a sweet free kick to lead the Cavaliers to their highest scoring game of the year.

Zimbabwean (HS in US) Cabrel Happi Kamseu scored his fifth, American Daniel Steedman (his first of the year) and Daryl Dike (his 4th in as many games) all scored, two of them set up by English sophomore Nathan Crofts. American junior Tanner Dietrich scored Clemson’s goal. The loss drops Clemson a game under .500.

Wake Forest 2, Boston College 1
American redshirt sophomore Michael DeShields and Canadian junior Alistair Johnston scored for Wake around a goal by American redshirt junior Trevor Davock. The Deacs are loaded with uber-talented freshman and each of them set-up a goal, the first by a solid effort in the air by Kyle Holcomb and the second a sweet run past a defender and nice cross in the box by Aristotle Zarris. All the goals were scored after both Brazilian (junior) Bruno Lapa and German senior Joshua Forbes were both (rightly) tossed for getting into it in the first half, leaving both teams playing with ten men.

Here are the updated records and RPI (with two West Coast games outstanding).

    1. Wake Forest ----------------- 13-1-0 --- 5-1-0
    3. Virginia ----------------------- 8-1-2 --- 3-1-1
    4. North Carolina -------------- 9-2-1 --- 4-1-0
    5. Notre Dame ----------------- 7-4-1 --- 3-2-0
    6. Syracuse --------------------- 6-4-2 --- 1-3-1
    7. Louisville ---------------------- 7-2-3 --- 3-1-2
    10. Duke ------------------------- 8-3-1 --- 3-2-0
    13. Virginia Tech --------------- 7-4-2 --- 2-3-1
    21. North Carolina State ---- 8-3-2 --- 2-3-1
    ---
    46. Pittsburgh ------------------ 6-7-0 --- 2-4-0
    53. Boston College ------------ 4-4-3 --- 2-4-0
    56. Clemson --------------------- 5-6-1 --- 0-5-0

So I think the first nine teams are safe for the NCAA Tournament. The other three have work to do. Here's what they each have before the ACC tourney:

    PITT - 117. Temple, @ Duke, @ 45. West Virginia, Notre Dame
    BC - @ 18. Connecticut, North Carolina, @ 16. Rhode Island, @ Syracuse
CLEMSON - 44. Coastal Carolina, @ Louisville, Syracuse, NC State

It's doable, for each of them, especially if they win their non-con games, but there is less than zero margin for error.

Has the ACC ever gotten every league team into the NCAA Tournament?

    No.

I think 9 of 12 is the most they've ever had.

They've never gotten every team in when there were fewer teams in the conference.

Wow Duke. Talk about shitty performance. So bloody typical of Duke teams, to beat good teams, and F up against teams they have no business losing to. Enjoy ur 0-4 winless streak to end the season and once again miss the NCAA tournament. Idiots

One of the worst nights in ACC non-con recent memory and perhaps ever. Some of these losses were to some good teams but there was also bed-shitting, too, resulting in five losses for ACC teams.

UNC Wilmington 3, NC State 0
Not much to say. The Pack got thumped by a better team.

    High Point 1, Duke 0
The Blue Devils allowed a first half-goal and only put two of their 20 shots on frame and that was it.

    Lipscomb 3, Louisville 2
In a shocker, Louisville went down 1-0 and 3-1 and goals by American senior Tate Schmitt and Brazilian freshman Pedro Fonseca weren’t enough to undo that.

    Connecticut 3, Boston College 2
The Eagles went behind by 3 goals just after halftime then scrapped back with two late goals by Icelandic freshman Kristofer Konradsson but couldn’t get the equalizer and fell a game under .500.

    Coastal Carolina 1, Clemson 0
Clemson’s awful season continues as they give up an early goal and couldn’t score despite outshooting Coastal 18-8 and Tigers are now two games under .500.

    Notre Dame 2, Michigan 1
American senior Thomas Ueland put the Irish on the board and Scottish senior Sean MacLeod converted a late penalty kick for the Irish.

Wake Forest 2, South Carolina 0
Canadian junior Alastair Johnston and American redshirt junior Tater Rennhack scored for the Deacs and two Wake keepers combined for a shutout.

    Syracuse 7, St. Bonaventure 0
Canadian sophomore Tajon Buchanan had a hat trick (second straight game with at least two goals) and Norwegian freshman Sondre Norheim had a brace as the Orange had a laugher. American freshman Julio Fulcar and Norwegian junior Severin Soerlie also scored.

    Virginia Tech 4, William & Mary 0
An own goal got things started American sophomore Kristo Stickler then had a goal and an assist as the Hokies rolled.

    North Carolina 4, Winthrop 0
American junior Jack Skahan had a hat trick and American redshirt sophomore Giovani Montesdeoca had a goal (his 6th) and assist

    Virginia 2, Radford 1
American senior Simeon Okoro had a goal and an assist and American freshman Daryl Dike scored for the third straight game and 5th time in 5 games.

    Updated records and RPI...

    2. Wake Forest ----------------- 14-1-0 --- 5-1-0
    3. Virginia ----------------------- 9-1-2 --- 3-1-1
    4. North Carolina -------------- 10-2-1 --- 4-1-0
    5. Notre Dame ----------------- 8-4-1 --- 3-2-0
    6. Syracuse --------------------- 7-4-2 --- 1-3-1
    9. Duke -------------------------- 8-4-1 --- 3-2-0
    10. Louisville --------------------- 7-3-3 --- 3-1-2
    11. Virginia Tech --------------- 8-4-2 --- 2-3-1
    21. North Carolina State ---- 8-4-2 --- 2-3-1
    ---
    53. Pittsburgh ------------------ 7-7-0 --- 2-4-0
    72. Clemson --------------------- 5-7-1 --- 0-5-0
    79. Boston College ------------ 4-5-3 --- 2-4-0

    FRIDAY
    Virginia Tech @ Notre Dame
    North Carolina @ Boston College
    Pittsburgh @ Duke

    SATURDAY
    Wake Forest @ Virginia
    Syracuse @ NC State
    Clemson @ Louisville

    Wake-UVa should be a blast.
Pitt-Duke should be interesting and how NC State and Louisville respond will be worth paying attention to.

Here's who each team finishes with:

    Wake: @ 3. Virginia, 10. Louisville
UVa: 2 Wake Forest, 4. Notre Dame, @ 5. North Carolina
    UNC: @ 78. Boston College, @ 9. Duke, 3. Virginia
    ND: 11 Virginia Tech, @ 3. Virginia, @ 52. Pittsburgh
    Cuse: @ 21. NC State, @ 72. Clemson, 78. Boston College
Duke: 52. Pittsburgh, 5. North Carolina, @ 11. Virginia Tech
    Ville: 72. Clemson, @ 2. Wake Forest
    Tech: @ 4. Notre Dame, @ 62. Davidson, 9. Duke
    State: 6. Syracuse, @ 72. Clemson
    Pitt: @ 9. Duke, @ 36. West Virginia, 4. Notre Dame
    Clemson: @ 10 Louisville, 6. Syracuse, 21. NC State
    BC: 4. North Carolina, @ 13. Rhode Island, @ 6. Syracuse

I still think the top nine are safe for at-large bids.

If Pitt can go 2-1 their RPI should move up high enough, based on their opponents, to have them with a good enough number for an at-large bid.

BC and Clemson need to go 3-0 to have a shot or else they'll need to go on a deep run in the ACC Tournament.

High Point may be looking at an at-large bid -- RPI is 25 with a signature win at Duke and a 3-1-0 record vs. the top 60...all four of those non-conference matches were on the road.

It doesn’t matter. It’s still a crap result from Duke! Wfu and UNC would never lose these types of games.

Looking forward to the Wake-UVA game, should be a good one. With the way Wake has played the last couple of weeks and looking at the results UVA has had, I would favor UVA in this matchup.

It's gonna be interesting and a definite clash of styles.

UVa is big and athletic. That's not to say they don't have skill players, but they are a powerful, athletic group.

Wake, on the other hand, seems to have an endless supply of really technical, creative players. They aren't unathletic, by any means, but they also aren't that big.

Wake is obviously better offensively. UVa is better defensively. The question is whether which team's shortcomings can be better exposed. (I think set-pieces could be huge in this game, especially for the Cavalier attack.)

I agree UVa's recent form has been good but that Duke game was such a shitting of the bed that I can't help thinking that is closer to their true form against good teams. Granted, it's just one bad game but it was a really bad one.

That said, Wake has tapered off some the past couple of weeks so Virginia might be catching them at a good time.

Like I said, it's gonna be interesting and I'm looking forward to watching it.

A lot of goals despite having just three games tonight.

Virginia Tech 5, Notre Dame 2
In South Bend, American redshirt junior Ian Aschieris and American senior Thomas Ueland sparked the Irish to a first half lead but the Hokies came roaring out of the second half gate. American sophomore Kristo Strickler had a brace (his 7th and 8th) and an assist, American junior Brendan Moyer also had a brace and Canadian sophomore Nikal Clarke-Smith also scored an insurance goal. American redshirt sophomore Nico Quashie had two assists.

    Duke 3, Pittsburgh 1.
American freshman Issa Rayyan and Austrian junior Max Moser, Argentine redshirt sophomore Nicolas Macri and scored first half goals to spot Duke to a 3-0 lead. Ugandan (HS in US) sophomore Edward Kizza (his ACC-leading 13th) got one back in the second half but with the Panthers getting some momentum, he drew a straight red so now he’ll be unavailable for their non-con game Tuesday against West Virginia, a game Pitt absolutely must have if they want to keep their flickering at-large hopes alive.

North Carolina 2, Boston College 0
American Jack Skahan had a goal and an assist and German redshirt junior Nils Bruening’s sixth was the game-winner. American senior James Pyle made two saves as UNC got its 8th shutout of the year. The Eagles fall two games under .500.

Updated records. I'll do the RPIs after all tonight's games are done.

    11. Louisville --------------------- 7-3-3 --- 3-1-2
    21. North Carolina State ---- 8-4-2 --- 2-3-1
