Which is why my master plan for the Cascadia division won't work and RSL will probably get stuck there. Yeah, that reddit post is kind of old. Indy Eleven? Carolina Railhawks?
I like most of this, but I can't see the league separating DC and NYRB. I don't think they want to minimize or eliminate that rivalry.
this it's why maybe the 3 divisions of 5 teams approach that was laid out makes more sense. Playoffs: Top 2 teams from each division automatically get in (6 teams) Next best 2 teams finish out playoff picture (8 team playoff, no byes) Scheduling: Play everyone in your division 3 times (12 games) changes each year who hosts more Play everyone in your conference once, alternating each year who hosts (10 games) Play two of the other conference's divisions once (10 games) with it changing each year which divisions those are and who hosts If you want a 34 game schedule then you pick 2 teams from the remaining division and host one while traveling to the other. I prefer the 32 game schedule because it is cleaner but doubt owners will be excited to host one less game.
Lets just drop the 10 games against the other conference and play two games against the other teams in the conference. Minimize as much as possible games between conferences so that you can have "friendlies" during the year between conferences. The only time the conferences meet is during the playoffs when you do a E1-W8, E2-W7, E3-W6, etc. home-and-away format.
and have the league miss out on the LA v NY series during the season? Not a chance. I'm also not a huge fan of ONLY playing your conference. You need at least some barometer type games for how the conferences are against each other. The NFL plays across conferences and they have the smallest schedule of anyone. We can pull it off.
Yes, we can make it work, but I don't like it. I think the barometer should be the playoffs. RSL playing an eastern conference team like NYCFC or DCU or NER (like we are going to do) during the regular season doesn't have as much meaning as playing POR or SEA or LAG or COL.
given how many names the Eastern teams tend to sign I'd want to be able to watch those games. It's not a great argument, but not being able to see the likes of David Villa unless we somehow matchup in a playoff game sucks.
You might watch soccer to see great players like Villa, Zlantan, etc., but I don't. I watch to see my team. I could give a rats ass about big name players unless they are on my team.
Aaaand, now the textual content matches the avatar! I have been waiting for the Big Soccer planets to align!
Off the wall announcement from Brandon Vincent. 24 year old left back with real national team potential announces he's retiring. He's got an economics degree from Stanford and apparently said years ago that he may not stick with soccer long. Seems like a guy who happened to be really good at soccer but whose heart was never really in it. 1057298802871320576 is not a valid tweet id
No, they don't. But they are conducting "focus groups", which means they are years away from getting a stadium built. https://www.hudsonriverblue.com/2018/9/14/17849204/the-inside-story-from-nycfcs-stadium-focus-groups
I thought having a plan for a SSS was a requirement for any expansion team, oh wait, I forgot. This is NYCFC, a team in NYC and one of the MLS's teams that can "do no wrong", ergo, rules like a SSS only apply to other expansion teams, not teams from NYC. I am sure after 10 years of focus groups, NYC will finally decide where they want to build their SSS.
So apparently there is this obscure cup tournament going on right now. Anyways, last night, this team from Portland upset this team from Kansas city 3 to 2 to earn a spit in the finals. They will play against the team from Atlanta
FYP. As much as I hate to say this, but I hope Portland beats the pants off Atlanta, 5-0 or something like that. Or does a Seattle against Toronto and bunkers, bunkers, bunkers the entire game with no shots on goal and then wins in the shootout. The Atlanta cries of hate and discontent of how Portland "stole" the game from the holy anointed ones of MLS will warm the cockles of the heart.
Not me. I will be rooting for Atlanta. I have zero respect for PTFC. Their drop & flop antics are disgusting and I want Atlanta to roll them like a bunch of cheap cigarettes.
Yes I would prefer a Portland win. I dont think they get enough respect as club. I also think RSL does not get enough respect. Though RSL is suffering from self inflicted wounds. The Don has his anointed teams: Atlanta, Seattle, both NY, both LA. While I consider FUKC a rival I was happy we had a cup final against them to ruin the Don plan
I often visit the MLS subreddit After Portland beat us the second time they talked talked endless shit on RSL. After Atlanta beat us they were nothing but respectful. Gotta go with Atlanta on this one.
