Tata Martino is alright, I suppose. I'm still trying to figure out what makes him a great candidate though. His resume isn't that all impressive tbh. Yeah he coached Barcelona and Argentina, but he was underwhelming at both places. The only great run of success he's had so far is his stint at Atlanta... but it's the mmls . Hopefully he surprises us though
I dont mind if they dont call the dos santos chicharo or layun pero tienen q llamar si o si a vela y Herrera
Martino took Paraguay to the WC QF where they barely lost to the WC-winning Spain while eliminating defending champion Italy. Just saying.
LOL at Chicharo being a "Vaca sagrada" that needs to be removed. We have Jimenez, who isn't better and both are way above anything else we have in that position. But I forget that he doesn't give interviews so the press has to shit on him and the parrots then repeat it like everything else.
Hence, why I said "hopefully he surprises us". Let's be honest though. Italy hasn't been a shadow of itself since it last won the WC. And we also know that defending champions often do not make it far (or in Germany's case: they crash out horribly). I think we all need to look back at that Paraguay vs Spain match and see how Paraguay played against Spain. I personally did not even watch it back in the day, and have not watched a full replay of it. Did they bunker till the end and that's why they barely lost against Spain? Did they play all out like Bielsa's Chile vs Spain? What was the game plan y como se lo rifaron? I know they say he's a disciple of Bielsa, but I don't really see it in his philosophy. There are some aspects of it of course but there's some separation between him and Bielsa. Pochettino is closer to Bielsa than what Martino is to Bielsa imho. I also truly believe that we should get someone that could build upon JCO work, just like Chile did after Bielsa left. We can't have the FMF interviewing 24 dudes with different philosophies, and start all over.
underwhelming if true. sure, he had paraguay doing pretty decent, but that was also a long time ago. he didn't impress with barcelona or argentina and i dont feel we'll transcend any current level with him, just do the usual, win a gold cup or two, get out of the group stage at the world cup and then bye. though something tells me he'll be coaching cruz azul in two years
If Higuian does not choke in every final, Martino would have had 2 straight Copa America wins. Did you see how Martino's Argentina completely suffocated the US in Copa Cententario? The US did not even register one single shot. Yes Argentina has better players than Mex, but most of that was down to tactics.
Against the US... I'm just gonna leave that there. Look, I'll still support Martino if he becomes the head coach. I did it with JCO, at least up until his last two years. I do consider Martino to be a better coach than JCO. He's probably a rung or two above him. I'd just be disappointed if the FMF saw that his contract ran out in December and decided then and there that he was their number 1 target, and made up some bullshít about interviewing 24 dudes.
Here’s how Tata Martino’s tenure with @miseleccionmxEN will differ from Juan Carlos Ososrio’s - and how it could be similar. #ElTriEng https://t.co/1Jgxj6vX2n— FMF State of Mind (@FMFSoM) October 18, 2018
Idk what unrealistic expectations had about who the new coach would be but Martino is a great choice imo. We're not bringing in a Pep, Klopp or Bielsa. Almeyda is blacklisted and anyone else in Mexico just isn't that convincing to me. Coached Barcelona, Argentina, Paraguay, had a good run with Newell's in the Libertadores and apparently is dominating MLS. We're not that great of a team to attract a coach with the resume he has.
We can bring in Lopetegui now that he will be leaving Madrid soon. Let's help that guy fail upward like he always does.
Sin contactos ❌Gerardo Martino insiste que no lo han buscado de la Selección mexicana de futbol https://t.co/proliD99a3— ESPN.com.mx (@ESPNmx) October 19, 2018
Thats exactly how it is..........there is no way in hell they interviewed 24 idiots to coach the team, because even if they did, the Mexican National Team is not really an attraction. They put up the name Tata because he is the only possible one that could be right for the national team...............................and even then we have to wait and see. New generation of up and coming talent, but same FMF, nothing will really change just a different cycle.
We should bunker/play defensive/Counter against every team... I like the 5-3-2 as it's more defensive, but our best attackers are wingers so pass.
