I'm curious. When would you folks say was the last time the Crew played this alleged "beautiful" version of Berhalter soccer and won in a dominating fashion?
Large portions of 2015 when a superhuman season by Kei Kamara elevated the level of players around him and covered up many of the flaws and holes in Berhalter’s system.
There are lots of Berhalter defenders who claim to be entranced by this style of play, especially in comparison to past Crew coaches. They'll also point to the people in the media who slobber over Berhalter's system, neglecting to point out how it's created the second fewest goals in the league this season.
What I didn't understand is wasting a sub on defense. That meant Berhalter was going to have to make a choice between Hansen, Sosa and Mullins. Berhalter made the wrong choice in not bringing in Mullins. Pretty much every time Mullins comes in either he scores or he is the reason we scored. It was inexcusable that he was left on the bench in a game that we needed 3 pts.
Agree with part of this. He didn't waste a sub on defense Abubakar was that bad. He was Agoos World Cup bad. He was Small Wonder bad. He was Rzepa bad. I am a Mullins fan and would like to see more of him on the field.
Exactly. So often the defense for Berhalter is that he has this unmatched style and plays this beautiful, free-flowing soccer. But... when is the last time this team played anything like that and actually won in a convincing fashion? I think the defense for keeping 3G as coach is getting thinner and thinner.
Is it Berhalter's system that is making Pedro Santos look like crap, or is Pedro Santos being crap making the system look bad?
I think it's a bit of both with slightly more towards Pedro being bad - but we're not getting much production out of ANY of the wings/players, so... maybe it's the system? Yikes...
Santos. He has above average skill but chooses to be lazy and falls over constantly. He's here for easy money and should be sent away as soon as possible.
The lads fought bravely at home to secure a point against a team playing its fifth match in 14 days and I still want to Boot Berhalter.
At this moment in time, unless 3G can get these guys to win the MLS Cup, I think it is time to officially let him go. Or, USSF could make things a lot easier for us by giving him the USMNT job...
