been watching it live. terrible match of football. Poch must be desperate to start Sonny. Son clearly needs to rest. Has completely lost the spring in his step and atm is unable or too knackered to take on the FB. they're playing in the pouring rain (it's Brighton) so conditions aren't great either. Spurs with huge possession but really, just passing back and forth to each other with a rare effort in the final 3rd. Gulls not really worrying about anything until the final line. and now, Lamela has scored so that will make Poch look good. truth be told, Lucas and Lamela need to do the bulk right now for the good of the whole team. all the World Cup'ers are not sharp. Eriksen is tired, Tripps has lost his razor sharpness from RUS, Dier is Dire and Dele and Kane have been .... i'd be happy to see Sonny on the bench for several fixtures. it's a LOOOONG season and he will play his part.
Hopefully he gets a bit of a rest and can peak in the mid-late season this time instead of burning out towards the end. He also didn't look that bad from the highlights nmssis posted. Just not to his normally high level ofc.
I really don't understand all this talk about rest. Dude is in his physical prime and the heat is on more so than ever. He got his exemption not to rest, but to play and play more. You guys think Kane's going to ask for time off? Dele, his teammate for club and country who went deep into the World Cup? You guys think Messi's saying hey coach, I've logged insane minutes, scored a ton of goals, I'm the best in the world, perhaps ever, so give me a bit of a break? lol I don't know what you guys do for work or what you've achieved in life, but if you want to be considered the best in your trade, you gotta get your opportunities and constantly deliver ALL THE TIME. It hurts me personally when I don't see our boy score goals in a match. I go surf ig the moment he's subbed off unless it's a CL match. It is indeed a long season, but careers are fleeting. He isn't even considered top 3 on his own damn team. He's not yet a lock to start. Lamela and Lucas have only improved form from last season. Play well to play more. Step up your nutrition game, the science of recovery. Consult the specialists to figure out what the best are doing. Hit up Ronaldo, Sonaldo. Go get it as the time is now.
Listen homie, selling your rap CDs on the streets 8 hours a day 6 time a week isn't the same as running 8 miles per game (every week) with daily training on top of that.
Theres cup, PL and then CL all this week. We will see how Poch prioritizes but I'd have to think lineups will reflect Son behind Lamela and Lucas for now.
Before we're subjected to more bullshit about how to make it at the top from our resident online Big Balla who's never come close to elite levels of anything (academics, sports, professional) in his personal life... Consider the following quotes from the NY Times article from two years ago: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/17/sports/soccer/euro-2016-copa-america-player-fatigue.html This article was written before the Copa America. South American players have very difficult travel schedules like our players do. But none of them were subjected to back to back tournaments. None were subjected to a 2 week tournament with 1 or 2 days rest in between in extreme humidity/heat, playing on a potato patch of a pitch. And then to come back into club mode for league and champions league fixtures is truly pushing the limits of SHM despite the fact that he does hire professionals privately to monitor every aspect of his health/nutrition. The man and his father even fly his masseuse everywhere SHM goes. If we want to see SHM use his exemption well and play in two more world cups, we need our man to get some rest. All this nonsense talk about pushing through for immediate gains/glory only makes sense if he didn't gain exemption and had to ridiculously report back for service next year.
All of Tottenham's major WC stars are suffering with knocks and poor to so-so form. Its no surprise that Son who has had more load far more recently should be suffering more, and the fact that he's not says plenty.
An important part of being a professional athlete is managing your body. That includes rest. If you want a long career, you need to know when you need to recharge.
The squad is thin and Poch’s squad selection and high tempo tactics are wearing the starters down. Reminds me of Klopp at Dortmund honestly.
