Well, we all know DL, and I personally didn't expect the old fart to let Sarri's remarks about Napoli firing coaches through TV to go without an answer. He always needs to have the last word, he's been like that since forever, often both the first and the last. :D

Shaktar was much stronger than Red Star. This Red Star is the weakest team Napoli has played in CL. They are like a Serie B team. Shaktar also beat Manchester City and Roma struggled against them.

My biggest issue is we have no tactics. The team has no identity. I still don’t know what the main tactic is but 4-4-2 won’t work.

The second problem is Milik. 1 goal in 5 games (Napoli have 1 in 3 games). We need a proper striker in January. I even take Pipita back over Milik.

Anyway Allan, Zielinski, Fabian Ruiz have been the bright spots this season.

Didn't Sarri sit Mertens in that great Shaktar game?

I've given up on Milik as well; yes he has improved, but not giving Mertens time to settle into the new system is just a crime and display of incompetence

Carlo not starting him comes down to him not wanting this to be “sarri’s” team.

Carlo has a different philosophy and we should not be so quick to judge it, especially considering the fact that he really has a lot of achievements in football. What he has been trying to do is not easy, but it is sth that Sarri had not even considered as an option. I think Carlo knows that it is necessary, but I am not quite sure if he has not overestimated the abilities of our players. But still, this is too soon to think about it in the context of a great team coming onto the pitch, and I really believe that we should rather think about it in the context of a team that's been trying to evolve and adapt to a different philosophy. We'll see later on if we can criticize it as a devolution or praise it as that which we all hope it will become.

Whatever the argument about Carlo, I agree he needs time. But Milik is still a big problem.

CA started Mertens for the Florentina game and he didn't scored either and was largely ineffective. So what is your point? The truth is player's form goes up and down. The truly world class players have more consistency.

CA might be taking a long term view of trying to find the right combo of players and who can rotate with rather than tiring out the same 11 by end of the season. But we have a lot of Sarri-fanboys in this forum that hates CA for one reason or another. Expect the pitchforks to be out every time we loose or draw a game.

I never rate Milik. Blame ADL for being stingy and not spending on a proper striker.

This is exactly what I was talking about, the reason why I'm also starting to doubt whether Carlo has not overestimated our team's ability or capability. When I think of Liverpool or PSG or RM, they have players that simply perform often, and if one is out then there's a multitude of others to step up. When I watched the RM-AS game it was too obvious, almost difficult to watch their skill and ease in comparison with what we have been doing, even previous seasons, not just the start of this one.
Mane, Sturridge, Salah - Mbappe, Cavani, Neymar... I don't think it is necessary to blame DL for this, the quality of those players is simply almost impossible to match, even if you had 1,000,000,000 to spare without return. It's sad to admit it but so far I do not see a single player in our squad on par with the ones mentioned above, whether in terms of consistency, skill, self-confidence, or overall quality.

However, I still have a glimmer on hope miraging itself in front of my eyes, as I think that without time being given to Carlo it is stupid to be too pessimistic. We started the season with terrible defense, yet the attack had something to show. Then we had a game where we were terrible in both aspects. Now, judging from the last two games, it looks like we have improved our defense yet struggle to find confidence, consistency, and balance in attack. It has all the sings of a developing team improving itself with each step it takes, so let's hope there is still room in the cup for a whole lot of improvement and Carlo can fill it up to the brim...

Mertens arrived late and needs time to settle in the new tactics and the fastest way to get that is by playing, that is my point.
    Milik is beyond trash

Carlo is looking long term since that is what he needs to do. Finding the balance while incorporating everyone into the team is difficult, but I believe it's the only way you give yourself a chance to win the battle of attrition that comes with the long season ahead.

Long term? I hate those words.
Why on Earth does that mean we should not use our biggest star forward? He is 31, let him play while he's still young'ish

He is staying at most 2 to 3 years. Can’t be too long term.

    Agree.

My only criticsm of Carlo is he said this is a squad that can win and he thanked ADL. We really needed a top striker. Carlo is in a very tough spot.

Because, logically, Mertens might not work against some types of defense, hence the necessity of becoming more variegated in attack, trying to implement the other striker into the plan.
But I agree with the age argument, though Mertens stated in an interview a while ago that he is not yet wholly prepared to play the full 90 minutes, so that might still be a factor as well.

I fail to see how Mertens is the answer to all. It's obvious Carlos is trying to get Milik to play the best he possibly can. He probably already knows what Mertens brings. Last season they won nothing running the same 11 down to the bone. Play some of the others who rarely got a chance to see what value they bring. And yes, it's a long season ahead and a manager needs to know what ammo he has on the bench.

We are already 3 points behind Juve and on the verge of elemination in CL after one game.

When you say we won nothing last year, would you be happy with a worse season but a Coppa Italia win? I don’t get this non-winning when Juve have 7 straight leagues and 4 doubles. No one else has won in Italy either.

And what was the start of the season like with Sarri? It's not like he came and we suddenly became great. Out of 5 matches on the bench, Carlo won 3, lost one, and drew one. Juventus have the same coach and insane upgrades, I don't get these expectations the same way you don't get the ''we won nothing'' argument.
Sarri did well last season, very well, but don't you think that in order for the comparison to be good we should compare Sarri's first season with Carlo's first season? And even at that, just the beginnings of both? You can't just compare 3 years of work with 5 games, no matter how much you appreciate Sarri. It's not like we don't, as I don't think there are any people here who don't rate him highly, but too much is too much..
