and this guy Trapp was Germany's 3rd keeper based on what, liking and wanting to be a bench keeper behind 40 year old Buffon. Of course he should reject Kaiserslautern who play in 3rd Liga but Frankfurt???

meanwhile 28 year old Fabian Giefer has been made #1 for Augsburg following Hitz's departure.

Kevin Trapp linked with Fenerbahce now

Seems like after ter Stegen, there's a declining level of interest in German keepers

Florian Müller kept a clean sheet victory in Mainz's 1-0 win vs Stuttgart

Timon Wellenreuther also with a CS as he was on the winning side of Willem II's 5-0 win vs Heracles Almelo

Wellenreuther has only allowed 1 goal in 3 games this season. Good start by him.

Odisseas Vlachodimos continues to be Benfica's first choice keeper, as he's started their first 3 Liga NOS matches, along with the 4 CL qualifier matches. Which they're also qualified for now after advancing past PAOK.

Jogi needs to make it a priority to call him up and cap tie him within this season.

of course he's not 1st choice but cool that 00-Luca Plogmann made his pro debut. 1st 00 and beyond keeper to make it. Although sucks that the 1st thing he had to do was save a PK which didn't work. Still 2-1 win in the end.

Besides based on most of what Bremen says, it does seem like Plogmann is being prepped to be the #1 for Bremen in the future.

Florian Kohfeldt: “Luca played with great authority today. He’s still very young but he’s already a good keeper. No matter how long Pavlas is out for, I know that we’ll have a Bundesliga-quality goalkeeper on the pitch, as we’ve got enough quality keepers in the squad.”

Martin Harnik: “It was a difficult debut for Luca with the penalty but it didn’t faze him. He’ll grow in confidence from game to game. I wouldn’t be worried if Pavlas is out for a while.”

Davy Klaassen: “He’s a part of our team and played well. We trust in him completely.”

Frank Baumann: “Luca is a huge talent in goal. Sometimes you have to throw your young players in at the deep end. He’s very confident and we trust him, but he needs game time.”

Max Kruse: “Luca is still very young, but he makes his voice heard in training despite his age. He’s part of the team like everyone else and did well today."

honestly it doesn't look good at all for the NT after Neuer and ter Stegen. And not looking at any youth prospects that are so far away. Even worse is that Neuer has 4 years tops left and then likely done.

even someone like F.Muller seems years away from serious consideration.

still wonder if Low would consider Baumann/Fahrmann?

In the end most German league keepers are at least decent options. You will always feel the gap after a the game defining keeper like Manuel Neuer but I'm not too worried about it. There always can be more talents on every position but it's more important to how get the most out of the bunch you actually have than to mourn about the quality of the players on paper. History teaches us that a functional team is way more important for success than world class talent on every position who probably won't work together as intended.

The problem in Russia wasn't the quality of the players by any means.

Which further shows the importance of needing to call up and cap Vlachodimos. Who I think has shown the most upward progression in recent years.

Bredlow and Wellenreuther also need more time to show if they can even reach that kind of level. Shame that Pollersbeck has kind of stepped backward after the early promise.

I think the main concern being focused here is what happens to the careers of German keepers. Especially when they make that transfer to a club abroad.

Ter Stegen is the last one to become a international level success. While Zieler couldn't get off the bench at Leicester and ended up returning to the BL but is no longer even a consideration for the NT. If Leno's time at Arsenal isn't spent well then he's at risk of having career parallels to Zieler.

The only productive thing Trapp did at PSG was date Brazilian supermodels. Karius has now landed in Besiktas. Where we now have to follow Turkish league games for in order to track his progress. And Timo Horn is now stuck fighting for promotion again with the Billy goats.

yeah I don't get the logic in that as a 97 youth NT wise all that's left is 2019 U21 and 2020 Olympics. He's nowhere near the senior NT. At Hertha you have Smarsch there.

he's provisionally cap tied to the US so if he switches it's permanent.

Klinsmann Jr is born in Munich and from the past most sons of ex German Internationals end up flopping. We've actually have had more success with the sons of ex African NT players over Germans.

Pascal Köpke is probably one of the more decent son of former German NT'ers. While just thinking off the top of my head, Alessandro Riedle has to be one of the worst lol
