He needs to be 23 or under that age in 2020, born after 1-1-1997. Davinson won't qualify then.

Lame too bad it wasn’t last year

We would have Lerma, Mina and a ton of other top players

Tho sure we will have a good roster. Hopefully not a shit coach like last time

Awesome news! This tournament is always high quality and gives that last bit of exposure some players need.

Considering that we're hosting, there's 2.5 spots now, and the talent on the rise, I'd say we have a very good shot of qualifying.

The only problem I foresee is the exact one that put the tournament on hiatus: with the competition in January, will the foreign clubs be willing to loan players out?

Even if, somehow, every talented kid we have ends up becoming undisputed starters at top clubs who'd never loan them out, I'd still prefer qualification falling on the shoulders of 2nd tier FPC U-23 players than on the sub 20s from the year preceding the games.

PS. This likely means we'll be seeing sub 23 friendlies on Fifa dates. Good stuff.

Crzd, I understand your enthusiasm but we almost have a year and a half so it's too soon to assume who will come and who will or can play, who will want to take part in it. Even a coach needs to be chosen (or it'll be the same as the sub-20). I remember how you were so excited to see James, Falcao and Ospina in Rio 2016 that we eventually ended up with Dorlan and Tesillo. But I agree that it's a great news. I've always wondered how a major and big country like Colombia only hosted one Copa America, two U-20 South American championship and one U-20 WC. Yes there was a tiny tournament that they should host in 1986 but still, it's too little.

I will get shit for it but Pekerman not coaching the u23 pissed me off.

As well as the 3 over 23 players. Total waste as all 3 were shit

Teo was great in that tournament, Colombia's best imo.

Dorlan was atrocious, but we all knew that'd be the case.

And yes, you are a hypocrite. Regardless, it's not his fault he didn't coach that team. We played the Centenario literally just before it, and we played qualifiers during the Olympic repechaje. Pekerman believes in process and if the Fed won't pay him for the extra work, then he's the least to blame.

Sucks the competition is going to be in January not allowing most of our best talents to show up. But all the teams will get hit with it, Brazil have a pretty nasty crop of guys who will be eligible for the U-23.

I was positive that El Bufalo will be eligible to play. Now I see that he was born in 1996.

Well this time the tournament is gonna be in Colombia, so I guess we'll get the players from the FPC and maybe those from Mexican teams at least. That should be enough for a good base.

Had never heard of this kid before ....

I doubt we'll have a full strength squad for this qualifiers, as you mentioned, maybe some mexican league players but the foundation Will probably be the team that played in the centroamericano. So guys like Neider Barona, Leyser Chaverra, Iván Rojas and Manuel Arias will be there. If talent like Luis Díaz, Gabriel Fuentes and Ricardo Márquez haven't left the league by then they could also be important, and guys from the U-20 this year if Reyes is the coach will undoubtedly be here.

We need a playmaker and to me the BEST there is in Colombia is Yeison Guzmán, he MUST be here just for his passing range even if physically he lacks a lot, a player like him has been sorely missed by our current U-20.

Good question. They may just have Reyes do it but if we lose to Uruguay in the Sub20 in a shameful fashion they may just hire someone else.

That is interesting about Gamero. He can give Queiroz good input about the Colombian league and players and learn a lot about the International game from Queiroz.
Good move by the Fed if true.

Not sure if he will be the Sub 23 coach though but I would not mind it.

Rumors of Alexis Mendoza and Reyes as his assistants. Mendoza has lot of experience as Ruedas #2

I liked Mendoza his first time around with Junior.

    I also heard Suarez too.

Queiroz wants input from local managers which is what he did in Africa.
    Sounds smart to me.

When it comes to new managers in any sport logic is sometimes thrown out the window for many of them. Especially if they have big egos and want to do things their way.

Talking to as many local managers as possible does seem like common sense but I bet some don't care about outside input. Some just rely on their own tactics and opinions.
