This is one of the reasons I still made it up for 8+ Crew games per season while living in Cincinnati. I also sat out in Nippert stadium every day between classes to watch the FC Cincy practices. You cannot truly appreciate the art of soccer when it isn't live. The off the ball movement and tactics are some of the most beautiful parts of the game and those are not captured or seen through a TV.
I've stopped when walking the dog around the park so ofter to watch games that I'm sure my dog is now a soccer expert.
Could be completely unrelated but a helicopter just circled around the 3 sites that had been mentioned in the past. Spent more time hovering over arena district. I have a pretty good view from my office and have been anxiously waiting for some sign of life. Again it may be something completely different but definitely not a news, police, or medical chopper.
Appreciate these updates. One must think that if they are on to the stadium site and are in town viewing it, that the other details may have been ironed out (i.e. valuation)? I want this to be over so bad so I can drink myself into a bourbon and beer coma.
I think millennials can be ruthless, in a good way, when it comes to where they spend their entertainment money. Which is why I think the cable industry, movie theatre chains, the NFL, and MLB, are struggling to attract them. A single instance of a crappy product or service and they move on. There are simply too many choices for entertainment spending. I applaud them. As it relates to MLS, millennials didn't grow up without options for watching live soccer. They had the Premier League and Champions League on a weekly basis. They don't have the attachment to MLS of "At least it's ours" that many older fans do. Couple that with the fact that MLS rosters are littered with players from CONCACAF teams that we compete against for World Cup qualification to the detriment of US players' development, which was supposed to be a "big" selling point for MLS, then why watch?
Oh, that was just me taking my daily helicopter cruise around the city. Seriously though, that is interesting. What other sites did they hover over? Dodge Park and Berliner?
I wouldn't assume they have been ironed out, but maybe what our group is offering them appears to be at an acceptable level.
There is a vast difference between a hipster and a millennial...don't let our common love of good local beer fool you.
A small thing, I'm sure, but it's a beautiful day, weather-wise, too. If, you know, there's a site visit included in the schedule. Low 70s, sunny. I mean, can't hurt, right? Oh, in case anyone's curious, it's 93 in Austin right now, scheduled high of 102. 19 days of 100+ weather already happened, or forecast in Austin this month. Looks like the coolest day was August 12, 90 degrees. Next coolest day it was 96.
My office view is from the 5th/3rd building (looking at the statehouse) I have seen one pass several times. I don't know what it's for but it's not common.
I went to my first Crew game in the 90s and have watched it since then but I get your point and understand how a lot of people might not have had that experience. I think the connection point we need to build out is that the Crew and MLS is our version of that. Maybe the play isn't as good but the experience is the same, the pride is the same, and the ability to build something great is the same. We have several players who are being offered spots overseas that are turning them down to be in the MLS. Play will improve but we need to connect people to the experience as much as the game.
They are common in the run-up to rush hour but not lunchtime. My view is straight towards the arena plus across Franklinton. This might be more than idle wishful thinking!
I'm on the 30th floor so a different view may be more accurate. My perception was arena district to berliner to dodge back to arena for what it's worth.
https://www.flightradar24.com/N551CP/1d98998b Belongs to the City of Columbus, I believe. Been all over all the sites we've discussed, plus a U-turn over the hilltop.
I’m only on the 7th floor, but it sounds like I have a more direct look. It’s gone now. Sure hope they liked what they saw!
If the arena district site doesn't have them sold, a quick scenic trip over the Hilltop should do it!
The other professional leagues in this country have been a disservice to MLS. They're the best, they know it, the fans know it and even the non-fans know it. MLS is a lower tier league, no question. MLS claims to be built on community and we know that's false. They're trying to bring out the hyper local things that could lead to really putting down roots in their localities at the same time trying to uproot the oldest of those roots. I too love live soccer. I enjoy my son's u11 practices. Those small sided games, 2v1, 3v2, 4v3 that they do fascinate me. I love it when the passer and the runner get on the same page and a bit of magic happens. I haven't watched 90 minutes of foreign league soccer in a few years. Who cares? I care about seeing a live game and following my local team. I watch other MLS because I like to keep tabs on the competition. That's it for club soccer. The biggest successes in the last 7 years in MLS have hyper local ties. There is no doubt about the correlation. I hope MLS wakes up to that fact in time to #SaveTheCrew
Unless that means it’s a police helicopter this doesn’t necessarily disprove or even contraindicated it being the MLS guy. The city may well use its resources to show business big shots who may invest here around.
Oh lord, are we tracking helicopters now? Careful guys, it's a slippery slope from there to sending out chain emails with links to sites like precourtdid911.info.
