I like Zahibo, but Friedel must be tiring of his defensive lapses. I'd think this is the time to bring Machado into DM.

And, will Friedel sit Delamea for his inexplicable hand-ball last game? I think it's probably too soon to bring in Mancienne, with only one full practice (today) and a walk-through (tomorrow). I think he'll stick with the same back 4 one more game.

Friedel skeptical of Rooney hype ahead of Revolution's crucial visit to DC
    https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...ooney-hype-ahead-revolutions-crucial-visit-dc

“How can I put it? If you don’t do it, then you shouldn’t be playing the sport. Let’s put it that way,” Friedel said. “That’s a normal thing to try and accomplish. Then to have the technical ability to create and other things, that’s what differentiates a lot of world-class players, which Wayne most certainly is. But working hard? Anyone in the world can work hard.”

Other select piece - the interesting thing is Machado and Mancienne have not played (I am not counting Machado's 4 minutes or whatever). Rooney is fully integrated - and Hamid stepped right in.

But that was before the summer window opened, and New England added defensive reinforcements in defensive midfielder Cristhian Machado and center back Michael Mancienne.

Conversely, D.C. made a splash with Rooney, brought former goalkeeper Bill Hamid back on loan from FC Midtjylland, and traded for left back Vytas from the Portland Timbers.

"But working hard? Anyone in the world can work hard.”

That can be said about the Revs practice of bringing in guys who are "good locker room guys," "hard workers," "have great work rate and pace," or "have a great soccer brain."

If "anyone in the world" can do those things, maybe we should try and get players who have the skills and talent that is not found in "anyone in the world."

DCU is now only 5 points behind the Revs, with two games in hand. They have ten home games left, which is six more than the Revs.

They also have 4 more total games remaining than revs, because they backloaded their scheduke to accomodate playing in their new sss

If you haven't watched the DC highlights - Rooney is showing why Friedel is off his rocker if he is "skeptical". Rooney's run/movements are not something Teal can replicate, he almost chipped the keeper in, his free kick goal - that is still some serious quality:

Then to have the technical ability to create and other things, that’s what differentiates a lot of world-class players, which Wayne most certainly is.

You said it yourself, Brad! Imagine if the Revs had this kind of player, Brad?

To be fair to Friedel, it sounds like he commented before Rooney’s brace last night. But he’d better be over his skepticism now, or else Sunday could be particularly ugly. A streaking DCU can easily catch us in the standings based on games in hand and pending head to head play.

Based on how things have gone in the past, when almost everyone here expects the Revs to lose they pull out a win (and often vice-versa!). Therefore I predict a 3-2 Revs win.

The Revs would not ever pay for a guy like Rooney and Brad is nuts. Maybe after Rooney stuffs a few in our net he'll wake up. Should be easy for him. Of course Brad is the guy that rated Zach over Lee so that alone should prove he's clueless

They do in Italy and other parts of the world. Ever heard of catenaccio? A good central defender will come in, communicate with the keeper and other members of the back line and ensure the defense is well organized and contributes to the attack. The revs defense isn't a lost cause; they need to get better at defending set pieces and maintaining their concentration for 90 minutes. A veteran defender, if he's worth his hefty salary, will help do that.

Honestly, I'm ok with a Goncalves 2013esque DOTY caliber player. If he comes in and owns it, I will gladly pay to see him play.

Oh Lee Nguyen, you mean the guy with one goal and three assists in 15 games (993 minutes) for LAFC? Yeah he's unbelievable this year, really lighting the league on fire. So disappointed he's gone.

Let the Lee thing go man, it's over. But if you really want to talk Lee, here's a great place to do it.

Sure, Lee's stay with the Revs is over. The question as to Brad Friedel's judgement and ability to evaluate field players is very much not over. Lee's case is evidence as to Brad's savvy, honesty, or lack of savvy , lack of honesty. It's unfortunate that Friedel has done himself no favors with how he's handled Lee and Rowe and other players of some skill. Unfortunately, it's also unfortunate for those who wish we could just forget about the past and embrace the glorious future.
As for Lee's play with LAFC, it has been at a high level. His role on that team is not to play savior, nor to pad his stats in seeking a transfer, but to maintain a connected, flowing, attacking style in the midfield. In short, to play to his strengths for the greater effectiveness of the team. Brad was right to kick Lee out of here. The last thing we're going to see in the Friedel era is a connected, flowing, attacking style in the midfield. Blackburn would not approve.

And with tonight's results the Revs are now 4 points behind the playoff line..and Philadelphia and Montreal seem to have both strengthened themselves and amped up their focus. Behind us are a surging DC United and a Toronto team led by an atomic ant who refuses to give the season up.
...... Tomorrow's match is shaping up as a must win...

I guess you missed the point. Let me make is simple for you. The point was not about what Lee brings but about Friedel's judgement. He was wrong in rating Lee behind useless Zach AND hes wrong about Wayne Rooney's value too. At this point and after watching us choke multiple times, I take anything Friedel says with a grain of salt. I expect to get spanked tonight.

Until Friedel is finally cut loose or we actually start to win, I will continue to question his JUDGEMENT anytime it comes up.

Thank you!!!!! You get it 100% I replied to the dead horse guy before I read your post but I totally agree with your analysis. Lee does for LA what they want him to do and he's a key player for them. We have nobody with his skill and vision nor do we have the firepower LA has. Brad is blowing his use of Rowe too. If I was Rowe, I'd want out ASAP

Feldman was on SiriusXM CounterAttack to preview the match on Friday.

He introduced Mancienne as someone who played for "Chelsea and Nottingham Forest".

I know they are trying to appeal to the masses with a known name, but 6 appearances(if I am reading his profile properly - which is kind of confusing on the Revs website) as enough to say that is where he played? Even Meola mentioned after Brad mentioned only those 2, his good stint in the Bundesliga.

At least he did not compare him like he did that one time of Xoussi to Kante.

But Meola and Dunseth questioned what does Feldman expect of him since he is the highest played defender - will he go right in - and Feldman was unsure if he would start tonight. He also would not commit who Friedel would drop - saying it would come down to maybe training as both Anibaba and Delemea have made mistakes that led to goal. He did allude to Bye staying at left back, saying Somi and Dielna did not work there.

Feldman was pretty balanced and was giving a really good interview (I think he has been good this year).....but then the more he talked, he slipped into old mode to make excuses by saying IF they had won some of the games and not made mistakes, they would be at like 3rd place. Even Meola again moved right off that saying you gotta play all the time.

Really pumped for this game tonight. Let's go Revs - Let's go Friedel!

This actually makes sense, good analysis and fair point on his role. Its a rhetorical question at this point if Nguyen would have fit here and done well. We can't say. Is he doing well in LA? If his job isnt to get on the scoresheet and keep the attack moving, sure. Again, I don't watch LAFC games so I can't say I know much about them.

As for the current revs, is Rowe's poor performance this season down to the coach, player, tactics or something else? Again, who can say. He's versatile but I think he'd benefit from a change of scenery.

My larger point isnt about any one player.
The fact is it's very early in Friedel's tenure here and while I'm as frustrated as anyone else, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for a season and off-season to see what he does before making baseless assumptions about his judgment or player evaluation skills. Most of the acquisitions he's made have turned out well so far, which is good evidence he knows what he's looking for. I'm willing to look forward to what comes next rather than bemoan what happened in the past.

    Caldwell over Zahibo.
    No Machado. Interesting
