So the season does end in early-April, even after a super long summer break. What a laughably short season! Independiente hosts Racing in February, which means they went all of 2018 without playing each other (unless they meet in the Libertadores quaterfinals)!
Yes, yes, we know.. AFA is incompetent. Btw Bocafan, I invite you to come here to the forum and actually discuss the players, teams, matches. I don’t recall you ever making a post about the game itself, just your periodical random appearances criticizing the ridiculous schedules
The farce regarding the aptly named "Superliga" continued, when players union head Sergio Marchi today defended the decision to allow Boca a seventh foreign player after they signed Olaza from Talleres... Marchi claims that because the injury to Fabra this should be allowed because in 2017, when Rodrigo Mora was injured, his foreigner spot was taken by Ivan Alonso... What the corrupt idiot forgot, or chose not to mention more likely, was that Mora, having arrived at River in 2012, is actually an Argentine citizen and therefore not a foreigner... So there is in fact no precedent for just changing the rules with one week to go before the season. Personally, I think the foreigner rule is good, but even if you think it should be lifted completely, it can't be done in this matter just days before the short season begins... Boca now has seven foreigners on their books, including Fabra... Just a short time ago the foreigner limit was 4...
Congrats to Colon for defeating Sao Paulo in el Morumbi! Quite a feat.. Sure, Brasilian football isn't what it was 10-15 years ago, but it is still huge for a minnow like el Sabalero to take down such a giant in their own home. Hopefully they finish the job in two weeks in Santa Fe. Bien ahi
OJO con Los Matadores!! Whuppin' ass like I wish Newell's would have done tonight. Oooh Ohhh oooooh Ohhh a calentar El Matador! @SupaMario
Some wonderful defending...... Give me me another reason to dislike the cuervos... and their Luis Fonsi singing asses.
One might have to watch alot of shootouts to see 5 better PKs than those. The SP ‘keepr tried to play mind games, but Colon was having none of it! Also great save by Burian. Reminiscent of Russia v Spain.
After two rounds, there is just one team to have taken maximum points... And its none other than Paton Bauza's Rosario Central
Yeah, with more of the big clubs involved in Libertadores this season (compared to a year ago), we might get a more interesting superliga race as teams’ focus is divided. Boca is traveling all over the world this month and dropping points in the league now. Might prove costly given the mickey-mouse 25 game season.
It will be interesting to see if Rosario Central is able to keep their momentum going. They are a typical Bauza team in that they are incredibly boring and methodical relying on set piece goals and defending, but there aren’t any teams out there that are impressing me. The lack of goals In the league is extremely troubling and I’m sure the new tv people aren’t thrilled, it’s been an extremely mediocre three rounds
lol.. top 5 teams in the league standings at the moment: Racing, Atletico Tucuman, Union, Defensa y Justicia, and Aldosivi... who would have thought?
Hmmmm... well a 2-1 loss to San Martin (Tucuman) today --who arrived with 0 wins and only 4 points to this game-- makes me reconsider Racing's strength. Looks like the league is up for grabs for anyone at this point
As much as I always enjoy Boca's play, and especially a good win, I have to say this was the most anticlimactic win at La Bombonera. It's always good to win, but I can't wait to take on the gayinas on Wednesday.
So it turns out Saturday was confirmed for both finals, despite last minute attempts to move it to Sunday -- 12:00 PM PST (Nov. 10 & 24) I don't normally work weekends, but I am hosting a one-time workshop event this Saturday..... ironically, in the same exact time slot of the game (12-2pm). Just about ready to kill myself.. The worst part is that when I was scheduling the date and time of it all about a month ago, I picked Saturday in order to be able to watch River's league match on Sunday.... boy did that come back to bite me in the ass. I'm going to have to abstain from coming on BigSoccer, Ole, Facebook, etc. after the match is done. The phone will have to be off too, to avoid any incoming texts. I plan on finding an uploaded stream and watching it later that night as if it were live, so hopefully I don't run into the score somehow beforehand. Anyway, can't wait for Saturday to get here. Been counting down every second since last Tuesday.
I'm going to a hockey game on Saturday, fortunately the Libertadores game starts early enough to not be an issue.
Moving the game to Saturday made no sense. I think the ratings would have been higher on a Wednesday night. People have things going on on the weekends, like locoxriver, that were planned months and months ago. The game was supposed to be a wednesday and that when it should have been played. I will of course watch the game, but I had to reshuffle so much of my weekend plans... A lot of casual fans will probably not watch either. I think it was a massive chance to showcase south american football yet they don't even confirm the dates until 5 days before.... I don't think security is going to be any better on a Saturday at 5 PM either. It gives the fans who cause trouble a whole day of drinking and partying and free reign to run the city and vandalize or whatever. At least on a work day people have obligations during the day...
Don't know about that. People tend to have more spare time on weekends, I would say. Its unfortunate for locoxriver, but overall I would say most people can allocate time for a 2 hour game on their Saturday. Also, he's in California so if the match was on Wednesday it would have kicked off at 4:45 his time at the absolute latest. Most people in California are stuck in traffic at that time, if not still at work
